  • Honestly, as a student, being in education is getting harder aswell burserys haven't risen with the cost of living and trying to juggle full time education with whatever paid work you can find is a nightmare. I often find myself working 7 days a week across education and employment just to pay bills and buy food by throwawayglasgoww (Wed 17th May 2023 5:27pm)

  • Unfortunately I'm already deep in an overdraft and can't get a higher overdraft amount and my credit score is bad because of the whole overdraft/ student/ no regular income thing so don't think I'd qualify for a loan, also if I don't get the graduate job because of the case then I'll essentially come out of uni without being able to get a job in my field which will hinder my ability to pay off a loan. I did ask about paying it in instalments but I was told I'd need to pay £500 before the 2nd of August and the rest by the 16th of August which is a bit of a tight schedule for me as my placement won't end until the 10th of July so can't even pick up extra shifts until then. Thank you for the info on sw though! I think even though in person is riskier it's more anonymous, in my profession I'd be at risk of losing my licence if I did do online content so irl stuff is safer as there less of a risk of recognition but I'd definitely keep it as a last resort thing. I'm just trying to explore all my options before making any proper decisions by throwawayglasgoww (Sun 25th Jun 2023 9:51pm)
  • So I get a £760pm bursery which is my main source of income which I use to pay for costs of living. During Christmas when I wasn't in placement I did shifts through the holidays so I'd get extra pay for that to help me get through the next 3 months of straight placement. I'd managed to get about £500 in savings before going back out into placement and explained to SLAB these savings were to help get me through placement so I wouldn't have to work 7 days a week. Ontop of my bursery I make maybe an extra £200 or so pm? Depending on how much extra shifts I feel I can pick up while on placement. This is my manegement placement though so because it's basically the one that decides whether I'll pass or fail my final year I've been focusing more on that and not picking up as many paid shifts as I should (plus had a research essay due and two other essays). But yeah based on my bursery, money I made through Christmas and the sporadic income I get doing shift work apparently I 'earn too much' even though I've been in an overdraft for at least 2 years now by throwawayglasgoww (Sun 25th Jun 2023 10:19pm)
