  • fair enough! if it exists it is of interest, but that should probably be 'with sounding horrible, ...' by topherette (Mon 1st Feb 2021 6:43pm)
  • the map isn't claiming they're especially popular, just that they exist. check out 'glazzy' - which i knew you'd hate - in context here: [https://twitter.com/search?q=%22in%20glazzy%22&src=typed\_query](https://twitter.com/search?q=%22in%20glazzy%22&src=typed_query) by topherette (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 11:08am)
  • thank you! now fixed by topherette (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 11:06am)
  • less common certainly, which is why it's not the main one on the map by topherette (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 11:11am)
  • here too, in context: [https://twitter.com/search?q=dumbarton%20dumby&src=typed\_query](https://twitter.com/search?q=dumbarton%20dumby&src=typed_query) would you have any additions to make to the map? by topherette (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 11:29am)
  • that's an outright lie! almost all of them do. the point remains, whether you like it or not, 'glazzy' is a nickname that some people use for glasgow. by topherette (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 11:28am)
  • i chose 'in glazzy', with that preposition, so the context is clear for you. you can also search for just glazzy (which takes a bit more sorting, but has by far the most), or glazzy + glasgow (bringing up some more unequivocal evidence, although i'm not sure why you'd need that now), or 'to glazzy' for another clear one. or you could stop caring about something so trivial and move to the next post? by topherette (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 11:34am)
  • the map aims to be exhaustive, and doesn't cast judgement on which nicknames should be included, or which u/bonjourcomputer considers good. they just need to be attested across various media for inclusion. mainly i'm after additions, or constructive feedback!(constructive feedback =/= 'i haven't heard of X') by topherette (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 11:39am)
  • most of them come from this very sub's users. you can google them. by topherette (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 11:48am)
  • this map wants to show all nicknames that different groups of people use. this is quite a proud and hostile sub, isn't it! by topherette (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 11:46am)
  • do you know how to use google though? what is 'real life' to you? please just go to the next post if you have nothing of value to add by topherette (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 11:52am)
  • anyone who's ever read a book out there today? by topherette (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 12:01pm)
  • heard first here, then: [https://twitter.com/search?q=bollockshields&src=typed\_query](https://twitter.com/search?q=bollockshields&src=typed_query) [https://twitter.com/search?q=Fanniesland&src=typed\_query](https://twitter.com/search?q=Fanniesland&src=typed_query) by topherette (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 12:18pm)
  • still exists, though. which is why it's on the map. many words in the dictionary are attested fuck all out there in reality. by topherette (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 1:43pm)
  • well, it exists, so it's on the map! by topherette (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 1:43pm)
  • so what? the word 'copacetic' is not that common, but it's in the dictionary. people document stuff that exists. i'm one of them. by topherette (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 1:45pm)
  • do you understand what a nickname is? of course i have evidence. that's what something written down *is* - documentary evidence. this is not complex science, it's just a bunch of stupid fucking nicknames! by topherette (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 2:01pm)
