  • Cycling is a small percentage of the population because the infrastructure is so poor and it is frankly dangerous in Glasgow. Improve the infrastructure and the number of cyclists will go up by tranmear (Wed 24th Apr 2019 12:35am)
  • I know at least three vastly more experienced cyclists who've been knocked over by cars in Glasgow. I'm not cycling anyway unless its completely segregated by tranmear (Wed 24th Apr 2019 11:30am)
  • If GTA has taught me anything that bus is about to explode by tranmear (Sun 19th Jan 2020 8:55am)
  • There's a proposal at the moment to open a light rail link to the airport via Paisley and Renfrew which would be a good start by tranmear (Mon 26th Oct 2020 10:31am)
  • Fantastic. Thanks! by tranmear (Tue 12th Jan 2021 10:45pm)
  • I paid £1080 about a year ago but was the first in my block. Think the issue is they need special qualifications to do the ews1 and not many people in Glasgow have it so with the demand atm prices have got really high by tranmear (Wed 1st Sep 2021 8:28am)
  • There's some chat about converting the Cathcart circle to light rail which would allow much higher frequency which would be nice by tranmear (Wed 6th Oct 2021 7:19am)

  • Absolutely correct. Lateral flow tests miss around half of positive cases. This is why they're only recommended for use when you're asymptomatic. by tranmear (Sat 9th Oct 2021 9:55am)
  • I had one recently who insisted on stopping so I could get cash out. Same deal - ranted about multiple card payments. Not really my problem that he wants to avoid paying tax, didn't really have a lot of sympathy. by tranmear (Wed 13th Oct 2021 6:21pm)
  • 🤷‍♂️ he said it was about tax by tranmear (Wed 13th Oct 2021 7:04pm)
  • Death penalty doesn't work as a deterrent. See the USA for an example. by tranmear (Sun 17th Oct 2021 9:29am)
  • Good rehabilitation of prisoners. The countries with the lowest recidivism rates are those with "soft" prison systems like Norway and Sweden by tranmear (Sun 17th Oct 2021 12:30pm)
  • Well that depends on whether or not you think prison is there to punish people without actually providing any societal benefit or whether its there to rehabilitation people and provide longer term societal benefit. There is a reason that Norway's system has lower recidivism than many other countries and that's because it actually works. https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/recidivism-rates-by-country by tranmear (Sun 17th Oct 2021 12:39pm)
  • Phillies normally has an interesting selection of guest beers if you're into that kind of thing by tranmear (Wed 20th Oct 2021 11:56pm)
  • So sensible its almost like we had a fully functioning tram network 50 years ago. The decision to rip out that infrastructure was a terrible one and to rebuild a like for like system will be a multi billion pounds construction project by tranmear (Thu 21st Oct 2021 12:05am)
  • A like for like replacement of the 60s tram system would absolutely cost billions. A single line in Edinburgh was over 750 million. See the map here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasgow_Corporation_Tramways And the councils own documents for Glasgow metro (which will be trams/light rail) slate it as a multi billion pound project https://invest-glasgow.foleon.com/igpubs/glasgow-greenprint-for-investment/cover/ by tranmear (Thu 21st Oct 2021 8:16am)
  • Then call centre workers should unionise and strike by tranmear (Thu 21st Oct 2021 5:27pm)
  • Yes. Glasgow should look closely at what Manchester have done by tranmear (Sun 12th Dec 2021 8:17pm)
  • Sometimes the 3 doesn't even show up on the tracker, so you get to play a game of guessing whether one is actually going to arrive or not. by tranmear (Wed 15th Dec 2021 10:33pm)
  • I'm interested to hear your thoughts on retrofitting the suburban rail lines as light rail. E.g. the Cathcart circle. Could massively increase frequency on the lines with no disruption to road users/cyclists as it's all grade separated. by tranmear (Thu 6th Jan 2022 12:42am)
  • Possibly this https://twitter.com/ScotRail/status/1482860720048033795?t=BuSDME8PnOiisC82iV1lFA&s=19 by tranmear (Mon 17th Jan 2022 12:01am)

  • It's not free for commercial vehicles. So it's probably tradespeople dumping the items you are seeing. by tranmear (Thu 21st Apr 2022 10:12am)
  • The reason they seem like they would be perfect for trams is because the trams used to run down them! by tranmear (Mon 5th Sep 2022 1:14pm)
  • I feel sorry for you that you read "help me find somewhere I won't feel discriminated against" and somehow came away thinking that OP wanted segregation. What a sad, frightening little world you must live in. by tranmear (Sat 22nd Apr 2023 9:25am)
  • Bbc were in on the news this morning, might just be press? by tranmear (Thu 15th Jun 2023 9:12am)
  • They're pricey but also massive. Often don't need dinner if I've had one of these because I'm still full. by tranmear (Fri 7th Jul 2023 11:13pm)
  • Manchester are already rolling out a city region network and Liverpool are also rolling out a city region bus company. We can look at Edinburgh and see they have better service than Glasgow for less money. It is a no brainer IMO. by tranmear (Fri 29th Sep 2023 3:57pm)
  • Yes final approval next week for Liverpool then planning roll out to start 2026 so a bit of time yet. Absolutely agree on linking up with the rest of SPT network, the subway is there, and the Metro is potentially coming down the pipe soon so making sure everything is all linked up from buses, to subway, to metro, to bike lanes just makes so much sense. by tranmear (Fri 29th Sep 2023 6:00pm)
  • Good, I'd use the train to get to town a lot more if it was more than an hourly frequency. The Cathcart Circle has been severly underused infrastructure over the past few years. by tranmear (Mon 6th Nov 2023 2:07pm)
