  • I don't live on Aryle Street....I'm on George Street and Albion Street by unknowntoff (Thu 4th Aug 2022 12:06pm)
  • Nah it's some works going on at the car park opposite me, above the Greggs etc. I can live with that as it only goes on during the day so I'm not too bothered by it. It's everything else that's driving me mad 😂 by unknowntoff (Thu 4th Aug 2022 12:10pm)
  • Cheers, gonna try this out, have used two different products to try to clean the drain with no luck so fingers crossed this works by unknowntoff (Thu 4th Aug 2022 12:18pm)
  • Cheers for the reply, yeah I'm going to expand my search to the Southside and West End, I think I was a bit ambitious picking a place in the city centre. Definitely glad that I only need to give 28 days notice. by unknowntoff (Thu 4th Aug 2022 12:16pm)
  • I don't know what I was thinking, I was fed up with the commute into Glasgow and how boring Bothwell was. Had a video tour for this place and it looked great but I think the red flag should have been the price - most other one bedrooms in the area are £900+ and this one was £750. The guy who did the tour also seemed to be like "oh we have a lot of interest in this place so if you want it act fast" so I did. Only other part of Glasgow I've lived in was Garnethill a few years ago for my last year of Uni and it was amazing so I was like eh how bad can Merchant City be 😭 by unknowntoff (Thu 4th Aug 2022 1:22pm)
  • Yeah I have a friend who stays in the high flat on Bothwell Street and has no issues at all by unknowntoff (Thu 4th Aug 2022 1:24pm)
  • Right? I am in a position to buy too, I probably would have jumped out the window 😭 by unknowntoff (Thu 4th Aug 2022 4:42pm)
  • Honestly must just be this building, I'm always seeing flats coming up for rent here, must be every 2-3 weeks by unknowntoff (Thu 4th Aug 2022 4:41pm)
  • Ohh I'm so missing a nice quiet walk, had a park behind my old bit it was amazing. by unknowntoff (Thu 4th Aug 2022 6:49pm)
  • Ideally top floor, quiet area, somewhat energy efficient. Other than that I'm not fussed by unknowntoff (Thu 4th Aug 2022 7:06pm)
  • Cheers, I've got family from the Gorbals seems like a nice area, southside definitely seems like the ideal area. Going to view a flat in Pollokshields tomorrow although the kitchen is the size of my utility closet 😂 by unknowntoff (Thu 4th Aug 2022 7:06pm)
  • 😂😂 speaking of 28 days that's what my letting agent will be getting after my next rent payment by unknowntoff (Thu 4th Aug 2022 7:05pm)
  • Sorry I had taco bell last night and slept with the window open by unknowntoff (Thu 11th Aug 2022 8:21am)
  • I'm from Canada and live in the city centre of Glasgow (dual citizen mind so I don't really care) but I've never had issues. I go for my evening walk every day around the same area with no bother, although I only smoke single skins so it doesn't take long. But yeah they do seem quite relaxed about it here, I think as long as you're not being a dick they won't be a dick to you. I will say I'm a bit more paranoid about it in the city regardless, nothing better than spending a weekend out in the countryside smoking your face off with nobody around 😏 by unknowntoff (Sat 20th Aug 2022 10:03am)
  • Any Weatherspoons, Greene King, Belhaven or O'Neils pub by unknowntoff (Fri 16th Sep 2022 3:28pm)
  • Pot Still, start with the malt of the month and then move up to the more premium ones by unknowntoff (Fri 16th Sep 2022 7:25pm)

  • Grand Central Hotel, Carlton George Hotel, Radisson Blu by unknowntoff (Sat 1st Oct 2022 5:18pm)
  • Sainsbury's at Buchanan Galleries used to have it in the American section by unknowntoff (Thu 6th Oct 2022 3:54pm)
  • I'd recommend Hamilton, especially Whitehill area. There's a big retail park with three supermarkets, an Iceland, B&M, home bargains, tk maxx. Right next to Hamilton West train station, Bothwell road park. Overall very quiet, moved from there to Glasgow city centre (Merchant city) and regret it all the time. by unknowntoff (Tue 11th Oct 2022 8:32am)
  • Sauchiehall Street is shite now (it's declined a lot during covid) St Enoch has been redeveloped and there's a cinema now with a world buffet and a couple other restaurants. You'll be back in time before Buchanan Galleries gets knocked down. Other than that not much has changed by unknowntoff (Tue 11th Oct 2022 8:35am)
  • Also what part of Canada are coming from? I'm moving back to Canada after five years in Scotland to the Toronto area by unknowntoff (Tue 11th Oct 2022 2:53pm)
  • No way, I'm actually moving to Niagara (St Catharines) as well, I always just say Toronto since most people aren't familiar with it. by unknowntoff (Tue 11th Oct 2022 3:01pm)
  • March/April/May are the best weather months imo. Hotels tend to be quite cheap in March and then gradually increase as you get closer to the summer. If you're looking to stay at a hotel for several days I'd also suggest signing up for loyalty programmes such as Hilton Honors and Marriott Bonvoy as they regularly have promotions where you get nights free after 3-4 night stay, upgrades, discounts etc. And if anything goes tits up you're more likely to get help directly from the brand rather than through third party booking sites. by unknowntoff (Fri 14th Oct 2022 9:25am)

  • L'Aquila by Queen Street station does a decent munchy box (although it's a chippy box). Also Yippon does a good Salt & Chili munchy box by unknowntoff (Fri 18th Nov 2022 8:07pm)
  • I'm a bit biased for Yippon since I used to live across the road from them. To be honest though I haven't had a munchy box in years so YMMV by unknowntoff (Fri 18th Nov 2022 8:13pm)

  • I eat out about 3-5x per month and also go to the pub maybe 2-3x per month. I've definitely cut back though, I used to eat out at least 2-3x per week but I'm also trying to lose weight as I was almost 25 stone 😂 by unknowntoff (Thu 1st Jun 2023 2:42pm)

  • Senior...high school....is OP in America? 😂 by unknowntoff (Mon 12th Jun 2023 1:27am)
  • SpareRoom but I'd recommend avoiding HMOs that have more than five rooms, it's just not worth the conflict and drama by unknowntoff (Mon 12th Jun 2023 4:40pm)
  • Home Bargains or B&M usually have good prices for those. Also TJ Hughes at St Enoch have a bin of free coat hangers by the till by unknowntoff (Sat 17th Jun 2023 6:37pm)
  • I'm honestly desperate to find a flat and listings like this are soul destroying. It just highlights the greed of landlords nowadays. Guess I'll just have to get used to living in the Z Hotel 🥲 by unknowntoff (Thu 22nd Jun 2023 1:40pm)

  • Glasgow is basically like a giant Camden market but with neds by unknowntoff (Fri 28th Jul 2023 5:13pm)
  • I was extremely lucky and found a one bedroom in the city centre for £595 but they are few and far between now. It's just a matter of checking the listings daily, ideally first thing in the morning and to not hesitate. He who hingeth about gets hee haw by unknowntoff (Tue 1st Aug 2023 3:42pm)
  • Make sure you're on rightmove first thing in the morning and don't hesitate if you see something call them do not email. If you call and they tell you to email fair enough but don't rely on that as the first point of contact by unknowntoff (Mon 7th Aug 2023 10:14pm)
  • Glasgow has multiple rivers running through it which means that there is a high rat population. With that said I have never seen one in any of the flats I've lived in nor have I seen mice indoors. You'll see them outside by bins or running up the street once in a blue moon but it's very rare. by unknowntoff (Wed 9th Aug 2023 2:39pm)

  • I've had five covid vaccines (as my mum had cancer and was going through chemo) and have had no adverse side effects. Yes I've had COVID 3x since being vaccinated but guess what, I barely felt sick. Meanwhile a friend who only had one dose of the vaccine with no booster got COVID during the Omicron wave, ended up in hospital for a month and on a ventilator for over a week. His father in law refused to get the vaccine despite being at risk, caught COVID during the same wave and died in June of 2022. The vaccine does not prevent infection, it reduces the risk of serious infection and the rate in which it spreads. by unknowntoff (Fri 25th Aug 2023 12:55pm)

  • I've lived there and grew up there, I really hope you have a place to live and a well paying job to go to as there is a massive housing shortage and the cost of living is about double what it is in Scotland. by unknowntoff (Tue 5th Sep 2023 11:38am)

  • It's a tie between Kura and Optical Express (call centre). Kura was blatantly fudging numbers yet at the same time micromanaging every single minute of every member of staff including toilet breaks. Optical express is run by bullies who would encourage you to lie to customers about the treatments they offer, and if you attempted to provide any accurate information or question anything they walk you out the door. by unknowntoff (Thu 21st Sep 2023 8:08pm)
