  • This is super helpful. Really appreciate it. And yes to Hoffman, I watched his videos in the past but his name had escaped me. Will scan his videos on the way home tonight. Thanks again for the timestamp and links. I've been honing in on the variables: always 18g, fresh beans etc. I struggle with clearance to fit my scales under the portafilter so have been eyeballing it in tandem with a 25 second stopwatch. Will invest in some espresso cups to make way for the scales. Speed has been all over the place, even with the minutest of changes on the grinder, and I'm yet to get anywhere near a nice crema. I will persevere! by yermanparky (Mon 26th Jul 2021 3:02pm)

  • I have twice used [E-Waste Solutions in Finnieston](https://m.facebook.com/EWasteSolutions/?__nodl&ref=external%3Awww.google.co.uk&_rdr) really pleased with their service, transparent pricing and quick turnaround. They will call a spade a spade and if it’s not going to be cost effective they will tell you so, or suggest alternatives. by yermanparky (Fri 6th Aug 2021 11:09pm)
  • We have a grumpy 7 year old bunny and bathing him is always a last resort. You could try [grooming wipes](https://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/byotrol-grooming-wipes-for-cats-10-pack) available from Pets at Home. Bunny seems not to mind the small animal equivalent of these. by yermanparky (Sun 15th Aug 2021 12:04am)
  • [Old Toll Bar - PRW](https://m.facebook.com/theoldtollbarglasgow/) - reasonable cost to host a private party. Not central but not the furthest away. Class pub as well. by yermanparky (Mon 16th Aug 2021 5:03pm)
  • While £70 p/m sounds dear, and I believe it is, if that insurance extends to the roof as well then that sounds relatively competitive. My old flat in Queens Park had a common public liability policy (there were commercial premises at GFL) but no requirement for a common buildings insurance policy. It was in our deeds, and in my lender criteria, that we all self-insured. First year I went with Jelf, which covered the roof, stairwell and the interior of my flat. Was about £800 iirc. I then switched to Axa for £220, but was told my insurance only extended to the confines of the flat, the roof was exempt from my cover. They wouldn’t even quote me to include the roof for whatever reason. by yermanparky (Mon 16th Aug 2021 5:13pm)

  • If you are with Ross & Liddell, make sure you create a ‘Your Portal’ account. That way, you can check online for any proposed works and note your objection there (often before they even bother trying to write to residents). These cunts were awful for not sending notice of ‘proposed works’ until such time as they send a letter saying it’s going ahead and you owe X. You get one fanny in your block who calls them saying we’d like this done.. and R&L treat it as gospel that they consulted other residents first (when of course they haven’t). So fucking glad to be done with factors - haven’t had one yet who aren’t crooks with their fees and actual assistance provided. by yermanparky (Tue 19th Oct 2021 4:48pm)
  • This. It’s fairly standard operating procedure for Glasgow estate agents (Retties/SHH/Countrywide/Corum) to set the marketing, or offers over, price at 10% below the home report valuation. It’s psychology, makes property seem cheaper, more viewings and so on so forth. It appears that any new property that goes to a closing date will likely require 10% min over the HRV. Especially since the estate agents tell their sellers that they ‘expect between 10-15% over’. I sold in Queens Park less than six months ago (sold for 19% over HRV). Bought outside the city (paid 18% over HRV). It’s mental. by yermanparky (Wed 3rd Nov 2021 4:54pm)
  • I’m sure the head honchos need accommodation with a bit of a perimeter for security reasons. Street level city hotels aren’t necessarily the most secure, hence Gleneagles, Mar Hall, Cameron House and Biden staying in the Dalmahoy by yermanparky (Mon 8th Nov 2021 2:30pm)
  • You sound like a great guy to deal with. If you have a website or business page, maybe you could message it to me. Partner and I recently moved into a new (old) house and have ambitious plans for it over the next few years. Also, solid advice to OP. Cheers by yermanparky (Tue 23rd Nov 2021 7:46pm)

  • Not sure what dates you are working with, but last time I was going South without a confirmed return date I got a car rental on DriiveMe. You can get a 24h rental for a quid picking up and dropping off at pre-determined places with a decent mileage allowance included so you could make detours. You’re basically driving rental cars between the company’s locations - I did Europcar Edinburgh airport to their outlet at Southampton airport in a Mercedes E Class for £1 (you do pay for fuel you use) by yermanparky (Sun 28th Nov 2021 11:07am)

  • Yeah it’s a bit of a strange one. I can remember being taken to the old Caprese restaurant in the basement on Buchanan Street when I was young and I always liked the vibe. It’s nice that the Don comes back now and again to cook and say hi to all the customers by yermanparky (Tue 7th Dec 2021 8:37am)

  • Not sure if it’s a Scottish thing or particularly a Glasgow thing, but quite a lot of pubs open in the evening on Christmas Day. We went down to the Old Toll Bar last Christmas Day and it was a great crowd. Also, there will be plenty of shit telly on as well. by yermanparky (Sat 11th Dec 2021 8:34pm)

  • My partner went to a Riding School in [Busby](https://www.busbyequitationcentre.co.uk). She was not a total novice, but had been out the game for an extended period. After an initial 1 to 1 she joined a group session. They cater for beginners and experienced folks with their own horses. Wasn’t dear afaik and it’s also just a hop skip and jump from Busby station if you didn’t have a car. by yermanparky (Tue 4th Jan 2022 10:15pm)
  • Apologies for the confusion; a truer representation than wasn’t dear would be to clarify that group lessons are £30 per session if I remember correctly and thus didn’t seem to be exorbitant. I only watched from the sidelines, but it seemed that group sizes were kept to a decent number so that the instructor was still able to give detailed instruction to each participant. by yermanparky (Tue 4th Jan 2022 11:10pm)
  • [Ho’s Chinese, Knightswood](https://instagram.com/hoschinese?utm_medium=copy_link) we love this place. As above, never had a bad meal and they update their starter specials fairly regularly. by yermanparky (Thu 17th Feb 2022 8:22pm)
  • Happened to us as well. Could very well be just your, or someone else’s internal wiring. A competent sparky would be able to diagnose. In terms of a replacement handset - be sure to check how your door entry system is wired - there’s a few variations and I ended up buying a handset that sounded great on paper but was incompatible with our set up. by yermanparky (Mon 11th Apr 2022 8:27pm)

  • We had a great experience with a boiler engineer via Local Heroes. I called my supplier at the time (British Gas) needing a boiler service before getting a home report. British Gas couldn’t send someone for over a month. The agent helpfully suggested Local Heroes, as the workmanship is guaranteed by British Gas and after getting quotes I was visited in 48 hours. I don’t know what kind of approval process there is to become ‘a local hero’ but I suspect there is at least some criteria if British Gas are willing to stand behind it. Card payment was ideal and the engineers sometimes will correspond over WhatsApp which is pretty convenient. 3 years later we still use the same engineer now for all our boiler and plumbing related jobs. by yermanparky (Sun 27th Nov 2022 5:34pm)
  • Hi OP. Hope you feel better soon. I was in similar boat to you with my GP, although my cough wasn’t particularly ‘chesty’ per se, but chest was sore by virtue of the sheer amount of coughing I was doing. Chatted with a pharmacist who heard my cough and she suggested it might be caused by reflux. I took liquid Gaviscon for the guts of a week and it has by all accounts cleared up completely. Just a thought in case it wasn’t a chesty style cough. Hope you have a breakthrough soon. by yermanparky (Fri 13th Jan 2023 6:57pm)

  • Partner and I picked up the COVID two Saturday’s ago. Felt like absolute ass for the best part of a week. Worst was days 2&3 after noticing we didn’t feel good; heavy sweats and complete lethargy. Tested negative with those rapid flow tests first couple days and only started testing positive around day 3 or 4. Sore throat/chest lasted about 8 days give or take. Tested negative 10 days after first feeling like shite. Beer didn’t help. by yermanparky (Mon 28th Aug 2023 4:53pm)
