  • As an ex first employee there’s a lot of things that they do wrong but what’s the alternative in Glasgow? If it’s run by the council it’s all going to be the same staff that run it. I think most passengers presume that when a bus is late the driver is sitting about idle doing nothing when in actual fact they don’t have a clue what the last 4hrs of his journey has looked like. A lot of grievances that people have with First, the SPT deal with and is out of Firsts hands. Theres plenty of routes that don’t make first any money but they have to run them, any other industry would be able to cut ties with poor performing parts of the business. As for the state of the buses, it’s the customers on them that treat them like that nothing to do with First, do you think they want their buses covered in graffiti slash marks down the seats and treated like a bin? £500 it costs for a bus window which regularly get smashed. by Apprehensive_Archer (Fri 7th Aug 2020 10:00pm)
  • Regarding inexperienced cyclists I completely agree, I find these cyclists a lot slower on the pavement and seem to be more cautious of their surroundings. I don’t feel that I’m above cyclists or that I have priority on shared paths and I don’t know how you’ve got this opinion from, I never said I don’t get out there way, only that I might not get out the way quickly enough for them by Apprehensive_Archer (Thu 18th Mar 2021 11:37am)
  • I don’t see the question that I asked here, was just making a statement that regardless of the infrastructure that Dutch cyclist have a complete different attitude to cyclists in the UK by Apprehensive_Archer (Thu 18th Mar 2021 11:40am)
  • I have cycled a little around Glasgow maybe not at the busiest times or on the busiest roads, I don’t have a problem with all cyclists just the ones that act like I’m an inconvenience that I’ve slowed them down, or the ones that I need to dodge out the way by Apprehensive_Archer (Thu 18th Mar 2021 12:02pm)
  • Are you for real? In what way do I warn them? I ask to please treat the shared path as such, which I think is fair and I ask not to get disgruntled when I can’t move out the way quick enough (maybe could have been worded better) but I also think that’s a fair request. I also asked why they feel the need to cycle on the pavement at the squinty bridge, you spoke about inexperience cyclists (which I agreed with) others have mentioned the layout of that particular part of the road which I think is fair comment and not argued against. I spoke about the Dutch cyclists attitude and I stand by my point that it’s the world of difference from Glasgow cyclists by Apprehensive_Archer (Thu 18th Mar 2021 12:34pm)
  • I understand your point more now given that others have let me know that there is difficulty getting into and out of the particular cycle path I was talking about. My point about Dutch cyclists is that it’s a lot more laid back for example the bikes that they ride as well as the clothes that they wear while cycling, where as here it seems people want to find there inner Bradley Wiggins, getting from A to B as quick as possible. Maybe the infrastructure allows a more relaxed attitude but I’ll still moan about the cyclists who use the pavement with little consideration towards pedestrians by Apprehensive_Archer (Thu 18th Mar 2021 1:30pm)
  • I totally agree with you, to simplify my point I just wish cyclists give pedestrians the same courtesy and respect as they seek from motor vehicles, I’m not saying none of them do just that not all of them do by Apprehensive_Archer (Thu 18th Mar 2021 2:45pm)
  • Scenario wasn’t imaginary and what point did I say it never happened? I could give you numerous scenarios from this week alone with encounters I’ve had with cyclists, some negative but most neutral/positive by Apprehensive_Archer (Thu 18th Mar 2021 2:56pm)
  • Same goes for a car and a cyclist yet only one has to have insurance. by Apprehensive_Archer (Thu 18th Mar 2021 4:46pm)
  • That’s great that your very careful not to run anyone over, but not every cyclist has the same consideration that you do. Did I say I intentionally don’t move out the way? No. But there’s circumstances when I can’t move out of the way, right away and all I ask is that the cyclists that view pedestrians as an inconvenience to treat shared paths and pavements with care by Apprehensive_Archer (Mon 22nd Mar 2021 6:50am)
