  • Seconded. Been going there on and off for over 20 years now. Has hardly changed. Great food. by Broomoid (Sat 19th Jan 2019 11:51pm)
  • Buzzing. UNESCO's count when Glasgow was named city of music was 130+ live music events per week. Looks to hear of every and any genre. by Broomoid (Tue 19th Mar 2019 9:17pm)
  • Universities don't generally make money - at best they don't go too far into the red, funding sources permitting. I agree that increasing student numbers without an appropriately corresponding increase in space and resources is not only ethically questionable but problematic in the long term as it impacts student satisfaction (and thus NSS scores). Several HE institutes are dealing with the space/resources issue and operating at or someone's beyond capacity. (Source: am HE lecturer). The Mitchell library isn't too far from you, and is a great place to study/revise. It gets a bit busier spring/summer but there's usually setup space on one of the floors. I often wonder why more people don't use it. by Broomoid (Mon 22nd Apr 2019 2:44pm)
  • Same area here. I'm voting SNP but my wife wanted to vote green. Was surprised they aren't fielding a candidate. by Broomoid (Tue 10th Dec 2019 6:15pm)
  • Nice work. Great photo! by Broomoid (Thu 12th Dec 2019 6:37pm)
  • Hmm, I'd have to join twitter for that. I'll see if I can email someone. Thanks. by Broomoid (Mon 6th Jan 2020 10:01pm)
  • Yeah, I figured that. Just couldn't find it yesterday. I'll look again today. by Broomoid (Tue 7th Jan 2020 8:54am)

  • Yep, definitely worth a look on the south side, as well as maybe east end. by Broomoid (Sat 1st Feb 2020 5:19pm)
  • Really? That must be a pretty recent development. That's a shame. by Broomoid (Sat 1st Feb 2020 7:37pm)
  • Have you tried Beirut Star? Have been wondering what it's like, but haven't been along yet. by Broomoid (Sun 2nd Feb 2020 10:00am)

  • Also apparently coming to Xbox game pass. by Broomoid (Wed 5th Aug 2020 11:00am)
  • Moved to an Airbnb in west end while building work goes on in my flat, so we can continue to work from home. Power outage in the airbnb area this morning, so had to drive back to the noisy flat. by Broomoid (Wed 19th Aug 2020 10:55am)
  • It's pretty old school, but I'm a fan of La Fiorentina, near the Grand Old Opry. But Battlefield is also excellent. by Broomoid (Tue 29th Sep 2020 4:29pm)
  • Was going to say this. What we used to do before we had a car. Train to Kilpatrick then you can walk up the Rosy Road to Loch Humphrey. by Broomoid (Sun 1st Nov 2020 2:30pm)
  • Sash cord repairs The Evil Window Cleaning Company Guitar lessons ("Rocket Ride to Planet Guitar!") Comedy vocal group Colin Elliott's flyers have been doing the rounds for decades. Got to admire his persistence. by Broomoid (Fri 20th Nov 2020 8:38pm)
  • Tenements across from us had some major structural emergency last night. Police closed off the road, Cherry picker was out (lifted and moved cars to make room for it), and they were putting in structural supports. They were at it sawing and hammering past 3am. I need to order some more ear plugs. by Broomoid (Tue 1st Dec 2020 9:32am)
  • Ibrox. by Broomoid (Tue 1st Dec 2020 11:00am)
  • Haha, fair point. I have no idea who one would call. I'm a bit unclear on the timeline of events. My guess is that some major bits of sandstone fell from the central pillar between two of the windows (there's braces fitted right across that window now, I'm guessing holding it all together). First I heard was our door being buzzed asking us if we had a car parked there to move it as there was an emergency and they needed to get the cherry picker in. The police were there most of the night and are there today still. As far as I can tell everyone's been evacuated from the flats since they've actually fenced off the main entrance. by Broomoid (Tue 1st Dec 2020 11:35am)
  • Yeah, it doesn't too bad from the outside - certainly not like that one you mentioned, which if it's the one I remember along Paisley Road West was pretty bad. It was all hands on deck last night though, so I'm guessing some of the main issues are not necessarily visible on first glance. Must have been bad enough i guess that they've moved everyone out. Police had a bsy night in the area last night (though compared to the football probably not). There was also a crash at the junction on Helen Street leading into Asda, MacDonalds, etc. by Broomoid (Tue 1st Dec 2020 2:48pm)
  • This. We often go to Asda in Govan later at night when its quieter, and the number of staff not wearing masks at all is very high, mostly the older staff, I may add. by Broomoid (Sun 13th Dec 2020 9:33am)
  • Live in the area, can absolutely confirm. Definitely a silver lining in an otherwise dark lockdown cloud. by Broomoid (Wed 24th Feb 2021 10:09pm)
  • Would be up for this, but don't have Cold War. Be good to know if you do others. by Broomoid (Thu 4th Mar 2021 6:13pm)
  • Yes, just as soon as I can manage my rage at yet another 11GB update. by Broomoid (Thu 4th Mar 2021 6:15pm)
  • No, but they were setting fireworks off over here as well. Really fed up with it. by Broomoid (Sun 21st Mar 2021 10:59pm)
  • It perhaps varies on the type of property, but most cases you put it in the back court, but you also need to contact the council to tell them it's to be uplifted, which is the key bit of information that a lot of folk don't seem to know, so it just sits there forever. There's an online bulk request link from here: https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/bulkywaste I don't think they charge except for especially heavy things like radiators. I saw another poster had said it costs but I've never had to pay (though it has been about 6 months). Actually, if you have a GCC login there's a whole bunch of stuff you can report [here](https://iweb.itouchvision.com/portal/f?p=1030:101:0::NO::UID:B4B7F31D4CTN301SC4342E04V0007DF010G0683E), including the increasing number of potholes (yeah, I'm looking at you, roundabout at bottom of Helen Street.) by Broomoid (Mon 29th Mar 2021 4:16pm)
  • Hogganfield Loch is nice and flat with a good path round the loch. by Broomoid (Sat 10th Apr 2021 12:05am)
  • That's true, though there's a wee street across the road that we managed to get parked on last time. by Broomoid (Sun 11th Apr 2021 5:08pm)
  • Do you need to have started it earlier in the year for it to be effective? I read about this every year once we're already into summer. by Broomoid (Wed 30th Jun 2021 10:04am)
  • The hardware store is great. Also the Cherry and Heather does great sandwiches, and there's a nice bakery opened up right beside it. by Broomoid (Sun 11th Jul 2021 8:36am)
  • How are you going about learning? It's something I've been thinking about and have been wondering about good resources. by Broomoid (Sat 7th Aug 2021 7:04pm)
  • I live not that far from there, and Ibrox isn't generally a rough area. Matches can be a bit of a nightmare, and it can be good to plan ahead on those days. But it does clear reasonably quickly after the match. Like other have said, it's very handy with the tube station so near. The garage on Paisley Road West has a massive slushee drink/ice creams/sweets cafe at the back, so if you have a sweet tooth you're sorted. by Broomoid (Sat 14th Aug 2021 10:11pm)
  • Yeah, actually I just realised that. I am fully comp, so that is good. by Broomoid (Thu 19th Aug 2021 2:36pm)
  • Put a small bowl of cider vinegar with a couple drops of washing up liquid mixed in, then cover it with cling film leaving a wee gap. 100% works and it's very satisfying to see loads of dead fruit flies later in the day. by Broomoid (Sat 25th Sep 2021 12:55am)
  • I go to a fair few of things like this (it's quite related to my job). On the live front it's still relatively quiet with most places cautiously opening up. BBCSSO did a new music gig Wednesday there which I missed, and I went to my first live gig since before the first lockdown last week (Dunedin Consort). Assuming the numbers don't get too bad up here it should continue to open up, so feel free to hit me up about gigs. Be nice to meet some new folk. by Broomoid (Mon 25th Oct 2021 9:13am)
  • Thanks, I did think 8 looked a bit small. I'll shoot for CP1. by Broomoid (Mon 25th Oct 2021 9:40am)
  • Thanks All. Just back from there. Used Car park 1 though it was pretty rammed so up to the 4th floor. Wasn't the main event, but good to hear that parking right up when out comes to crunch time is ok, albeit temporarily. by Broomoid (Mon 25th Oct 2021 4:50pm)
  • Yep, definitely Sound Control. I used to go there as a teenager and try the guitars, playing bits of Rush, probably quite badly. Back then in city centre there was Sound Control, MacCormacks and Biggars (which way back in the day was in the back of the HiFi store Hutchinsons (of Glenn's, Hutchinson, Robertson, Stepek fame, for anyone who remembers that)). Sound Control was the best of the three though Macormacks was decent. by Broomoid (Mon 10th Jan 2022 12:52am)
  • OK, car park, you know what I mean. [It says Parking lot on Google Maps](https://imgur.com/a/5KrUNQq), so I didn't think anything of it by Broomoid (Sun 23rd Jan 2022 11:51am)
  • Thanks very much. Thought that might be the case. by Broomoid (Sun 23rd Jan 2022 11:58am)
  • Yeah, we did this too. The cake was good quality. by Broomoid (Tue 25th Jan 2022 11:13pm)

  • I really wish people would move right inside the carriage on the tube when it's busy. When they all stand at the door, you have to push past, and half the time they don't hear you when you say excuse me, cos they have earbuds in. I mean it's not that complicated. by Broomoid (Wed 25th Jan 2023 4:54pm)
  • I used to use it, but I found the phrasing of directions infuriating at times. Spending precious time telling me to 'go around the roundabout' (thanks TomTom, I know how roundabouts work) that by the time it gets to telling me the exit, I'm already on the roundabout. by Broomoid (Thu 30th Mar 2023 1:16pm)
