  • I liked High Times! Hardly anyone seems to remember it though. by CopperPetra85 (Mon 6th Sep 2021 11:24pm)
  • I work in a school and a lot of our senior pupils weren't in yesterday. Was reliability informed by the remaining kids that it's because the rest were at TRNSMT. I'm a bit worried about them, both because they're young and might make poor choices, but also because they haven't been vaccinated and might get ill or cause a spread in school. I definitely wouldn't be going for many reasons but I hope it being outdoors mitigates some of the potential damage. by CopperPetra85 (Sat 11th Sep 2021 9:40am)
  • Are you fucking serious? Pack Theory was debunked years ago. When did you study dog training? The 1920s? by CopperPetra85 (Tue 14th Sep 2021 8:36pm)
  • We got married at House for an Art Lover. Stunning venue, beautiful grounds, cracking food and the whole process (including changing our date 4 times) was incredibly smooth and easy. by CopperPetra85 (Wed 15th Sep 2021 5:52pm)
  • I absolutely love it when people use the slippery slope fallacy. It highlights to me who the idiots are and makes it easier for me to ignore them. by CopperPetra85 (Fri 17th Sep 2021 8:32am)
  • It has very little to do with their beliefs, abhorrent as they are, it's the violence and terror they bring along the way by deliberately passing Catholic churches on a Sunday, knowing people will be entering and leaving, so they can verbally (and sometimes physically) abuse them. That's the definition of terrorism. Terrorists should not have the right to terrorise. by CopperPetra85 (Fri 17th Sep 2021 8:37am)
  • What you have described is terrorism. Using violence and intimidation against civilians to further their ideological goals. What we are dealing with is domestic terrorism and its baffling. by CopperPetra85 (Fri 17th Sep 2021 8:40am)
  • I just want to point out a few errors of cognition here. 1) **'it's their/our right to protest'** Yes, it is a right, *but* rights can and should be restricted if they violate other people's *basic* human rights. Articles 9, 10 and 11 (all relevant here) are qualified rights and can be restricted by public authority if it violates others rights to safety and if it results in a crime. Orange Walks repeatedly violate the rights of others by harassing, threatening and assaulting Catholics. By having their routes pass Catholic churches they are actually actively choosing to violate fundamental human rights and the police and council are also culpable by not using their power to protect their citizens. Source: [Can a public authority interfere with your human rights](https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/law-and-courts/civil-rights/human-rights/when-can-a-public-authority-interfere-with-your-human-rights/) 2) **'If we ban Orange Walks then soon our rights to free speech will be stripped away completely'** This is what is called a 'Slippery Slope Fallacy'. If you are making this argument then you are trying to evoke fear in people to manipulate them into siding with you, hence why it is considered a fallacy. There is no evidence that banning a march (which as previously discussed violates human rights) will result in a 1984 dystopia where all of our rights are stripped away by the government. Stop making this argument, it makes you look stupid and like a tin-foil-hat-wearing conspiracy theorist. [Why we should avoid the slippery slope](https://www.theguardian.com/books/2015/apr/02/why-we-should-avoid-the-slippery-slope) 3) **You can't restrict people's opinions/religious freedoms** Similar to point 1, but I want to take it a little bit further. I firmly believe that Orange Walks spill over from an expression of religious celebration, into the relms of **terrorism.** Terrorism is defined as "Violent, criminal acts or acts of intimidation committed by individuals and/or groups to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as those of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature." The goal does not necessarily have to be of a political nature, they can be wider than that e.g. 'we don't like Catholics, our goal is to make Catholics go away' Assault is a violent criminal act, and I doubt many people could argue that planning a route to pass Carholic churches is NOT an act of intimidation. Put those two things together and you have textbook terrorism. I could debate all day long about why this isn't dealt with in the same way we deal with international terrorism but that has a lot to do with whiteness and failures in the system, which is for another thread completely. Ending this with a series of links for your perusal: [Attack on Catholic Priest](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-44762725) [Death threats](https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/news/glasgow-news/bid-block-orange-march-dumbarton-21448023) [Brief history of rising tension due to Orange Walks ](https://www.economist.com/britain/2019/07/11/orange-order-parades-cause-growing-tension-in-scotland) by CopperPetra85 (Fri 17th Sep 2021 9:32am)
  • You are likening Orange Walks to pride marches and therefore likening the Orange Order to marginalised communities (specifically LGBT). This is to cause fear that those minorities may lose their rights once again due to the 'slippery slope' of banning sectarian marches. That is outlandish and manipulative and therefore a fallacy. I also have a comment that challenges the whole 'it's a right that cannot be taken away' bullshit too if you fancy educating yourself. by CopperPetra85 (Fri 17th Sep 2021 9:39am)
  • Decided to spend the weekend in Edinburgh to avoid the shite. Edinburgh was completely chill today. Nice weather, folk out enjoying the beer gardens, out shopping etc. Was a lovely atmosphere. by CopperPetra85 (Sat 18th Sep 2021 8:43pm)
  • Could they maybe swing round mine and steal my Nissan Juke and torch it while they're at it? Would quite like for someone to rid me of that heap of shite. Worst purchase ever made. by CopperPetra85 (Sat 2nd Oct 2021 3:21am)
  • Palace Grounds in Hamilton by any chance? by CopperPetra85 (Sat 9th Oct 2021 11:48pm)
  • Depending on the type of animals, the Museum of Rural Life in East Kilbride has a working farm attached to it where you can visit. You can get up close to cows, pigs, sheep etc. They're fairly placid too as they're so used to seeing people so they don't mind you petting them. by CopperPetra85 (Sun 10th Oct 2021 9:24pm)
  • Not Glasgow, but since there have been lots of mentions of the 2010 blizzard, I want to throw into the ring my walk from the top of Edinburgh (Craighouse campus for uni) to Haddington (where my bf at the time lived) as I couldn't get home to Glasgow. It was the most horrific journey of my life, it nearly broke me. 17 miles, 8 hours, both coastal (fucking freezing) and the A1 (fucking dangerous). Lost my hat, lost my keys, lost my sanity. After dealing with the whole fucking ordeal my dad cheerily informed me that he would have paid for a hotel for me, if he had thought of it at the time. Cheers dick. by CopperPetra85 (Thu 28th Oct 2021 9:35pm)
  • Motherwell is most certainly not nicer than Hamilton. Lived in both, was regularly followed home when living in Motherwell. Never again. by CopperPetra85 (Tue 9th Nov 2021 8:17pm)
  • As said by the great Samuel L Jackson "he's pissing into the wind, how brilliant can he be?" by CopperPetra85 (Tue 7th Dec 2021 10:41pm)
  • I think there needs to be more places where people can meet to indulge in hobbies. I'm sure there are plenty of examples but the one that springs to mind is Settlers in Hamilton which is a cafe/game shop/comic shop that is set up for people to go along and play games together. Any time I have ever walked by it is hoaching with young folk. I also used to work in a wool shop and it's biggest attraction was it's daily knitting circles. 10+ people crammed into the back room 2x a day 6 days a week, it kept the shop afloat through the lean months. As a teacher I find it worrying how many of the kids in my classes report that they just wander the streets at 11pm bored out their minds. That's how most of them end up smoking weed and breaking into the school (twice this year) just for something to do. Find something that suits weans interests and give them a place to go. by CopperPetra85 (Sun 12th Dec 2021 1:57pm)
  • My husband bought my engagement ring from Barclays Diamonds in the Argyle Arcade and said he had a really good experience. He had originally gone to John McIntyre but when my husband said I didn't like diamonds but loved emeralds the girl was really rude and pushed diamonds on him, claiming that all women love diamonds. She basically wanted a bigger sale. The staff at Barclays were completely different and didn't try to sway him either way but worked with his ideas and budget. I absolutely love my ring, its absolutely perfect and I get a lot of compliments on the shade of my emerald. by CopperPetra85 (Thu 3rd Feb 2022 5:56pm)
  • I know you work a lot but if you can maybe try making an appointment with Money Matters? They might be able to give you some advice and maybe help you figure out if there are any schemes you can join to help with saving a deposit. I don't know where you live, or how you commute, your hours etc. but it might be worth looking further afield for a new place to rent in the short term. The further out from Glasgow you go, generally the cheaper the rent will be (unless you head to East Ren or some place like that) by CopperPetra85 (Wed 16th Mar 2022 6:39pm)
  • That's super weird given the whole state of mourning thing. I would have thought that stuff would be cancelled. The school I work in has even had to postpone their fun run as the whole council has cancelled all non-essential events. by CopperPetra85 (Fri 9th Sep 2022 10:42pm)
  • Fair enough, I wouldn't be cancelling if it was me organising something of that scale. Happy cake day btw! by CopperPetra85 (Fri 9th Sep 2022 10:54pm)
  • I didn't make the decision. I just assumed that if councils are cancelling school fun runs and road safety events then other stuff would be cancelled too. I take no interest in the monarchy, it was merely a comment on what I have been witnessing. A comedian I like was having to wait for her gig venues to confirm whether they were cancelling stuff or not, it seems to be happening across the country. by CopperPetra85 (Fri 9th Sep 2022 10:50pm)

  • We had them show up twice. Once at our old flat and then at our house. My husband let them in, showed them our set up with our TVs, showed them that the TV isn't plugged into any aerials and they just said it all looked legit and we would be taken off their list. Not had anything since. We legitimately don't watch council telly though, nor do we use iplayer. We use streaming services and YouTube and could easily prove it by CopperPetra85 (Sun 6th Aug 2023 12:37pm)
  • You and the other people on this thread are all troopers. I worked there for a month before quitting I was having nightmares about customers hunting me down and murdering me. by CopperPetra85 (Fri 22nd Sep 2023 1:35am)
