  • I have to admit, I'm partial to an elvis juice. Wild beer co is another great one, although I decided to try the one they make out of mushrooms once. Turns out a beer made from mushrooms is exactly as bad of an idea as it sounds. by Gib1997 (Fri 19th Jun 2020 11:31pm)
  • I've had a couple from fierce just out of sainsburys. Tried their citrus tart and jesus it is bitter, but in fairness I quite like it. Like an extremely sour lemonade. by Gib1997 (Fri 19th Jun 2020 11:35pm)
  • We had a vaguely similar issue before, though it was during the day and our downstairs neighbour (our floor genuinely vibrated at times). I tried to keep it friendly at first, just knock on the door and say, but it never changed and they stopped responding after a while. I spoke to my landlord who spoke to their housing association, the neighbours just told them it wasn't loud and that was that. I tried going to the authorities but was told I'd need proof of it, like the council noise team were going to send out some equipment or something? Eventually got an angry note through our door complaining about us 'walking too loudly at night', whatever the fuck that means. They moved out a while ago and were replaced with new people who seemed nice but now seem to have shouting matches every other night. Can't win. by Gib1997 (Fri 31st Jul 2020 10:55am)

  • Good thinking, thank you. I've been trying (and mostly failing) to make onigiri, and this seems to be the most traditional filling. Plus, I just like pickled things. by Gib1997 (Tue 5th Jan 2021 11:19pm)
  • Off topic I know, but I miss Pollok Park. I live in the west end and don't have a car, I don't think it's an essential use of public transport though. Someone admire the coos for me. by Gib1997 (Fri 22nd Jan 2021 12:04pm)

  • When I first moved to Glasgow, I wandered in there. I had a look around, then my eyes met a guy in a fur suit at the table, like a live action version of the dogs playing poker. I try not to be a judgemental person, but those eyes have sparked an undying fear of furries. by Gib1997 (Sun 22nd Aug 2021 2:11pm)

  • If you go upstairs in Cresswell Lane there’s Janet and John which does a lot of stuff from Scottish artists, really lovely stuff as well. Also across the hall there’s Lovesome Emporium that does like handmade scarves and hats. by Gib1997 (Tue 23rd Nov 2021 5:31pm)
  • Not sure if it’s what you’re looking, but Space on Dumbarton road do the best coffee in Glasgow in my opinion, and their cakes are amazing as well. by Gib1997 (Mon 27th Dec 2021 1:27pm)

  • Genuinely in the exact same position, just applied for it this morning. It did say on the GCC site that’s there’s a 10 day backlog if that’s helpful? by Gib1997 (Mon 10th Jan 2022 2:46pm)
  • I’ve wondered for a while how they decide what gets put in there. Saw a bowl of 50p Ali Express enamel pins being sold as if they were and indie artist’s work. by Gib1997 (Tue 1st Feb 2022 6:50pm)
  • Interesting. I always loved going in, there was some really great stuff. Always did seem a bit empty of people though. by Gib1997 (Tue 1st Feb 2022 7:40pm)
  • I’ve not had a better sandwich in Glasgow than the seitan one from Meadow Road Coffee on Dumbarton road. They also do a really, really good “chicken” wrap, and some nice pies and a breakfast roll. The vegan Reuben is also very good. by Gib1997 (Tue 15th Feb 2022 1:18pm)

  • Unexpectedly inspiring. Thank you. by Gib1997 (Mon 7th Mar 2022 5:22pm)
  • Ah, sorry for the delay. Honest answer is no unfortunately. I had a big interview today and that was, part of at least, what was bringing me down so much. So yesterday was spent cramming, today working then interviewing. Hopefully goats are on the horizon. by Gib1997 (Tue 8th Mar 2022 3:12pm)

  • See I was enough of an eejit to ask them before could we share it, and they said no, so I was scared off 😅 by Gib1997 (Fri 15th Apr 2022 8:11pm)
  • Always liked Mothertongue by Twin Atlantic by Gib1997 (Sat 16th Apr 2022 2:44pm)
  • Might be a bit further afield than you’re looking, but yesterday we got the rail and sail to arran and there was a big field of sheep near Brodick with plenty of lambs. Made me smile so much, they were running and bouncing all over the place. by Gib1997 (Sun 17th Apr 2022 9:57am)
  • You might be best trying out some smaller places. Could give Janet and John in Cresswell Lane a go? That do a lot of handmade stuff. by Gib1997 (Tue 17th May 2022 8:19pm)
  • I’m afraid I can’t guarantee they’ll have what you like, but it’s a lovely wee shop nonetheless. Easiest way to get there I would think is to get the subway to Hillhead, turn right when you leave, turn right at the Pret A Manger, cross the street and it’s the tiny wee lane with a place called Cafe GoGo and Zizzi’s. It’s up the staircase at the end of the lane. by Gib1997 (Tue 17th May 2022 8:43pm)
  • It’s not a bad wee spot for handmade stuff. The other place you could maybe try is if you venture down further into finnieston and check out the Hidden Lane. Or oddly enough have you had a look in Glasgow Design Exchange in Buchanan Galleries? by Gib1997 (Tue 17th May 2022 8:45pm)
  • Not sure if this is a touch far, but Arran is a lovely place and Brodick has a great ice cream shop (that also does class pizza). Edit: sorry, I’m an eejit and have just now seen you mention within 45 mins by Gib1997 (Thu 19th May 2022 4:56pm)

  • I’m guessing it’s just cause that’s not really an independent one like OP said. by Gib1997 (Sat 28th May 2022 11:49am)
  • Have you tried Wee Paree? I’ve never actually had anything from there aside from a bit of cake, so no idea if it’s authentic. It’s just the only French place I know of in Glasgow. by Gib1997 (Sat 11th Jun 2022 10:27am)
  • They have another branch on Byres Road as well. Never had their Hot Dogs but can attest that their sandwiches are class. by Gib1997 (Sun 26th Jun 2022 6:21pm)
  • Very late to this - Space on Dumbarton road sometimes do the honey cake! by Gib1997 (Fri 1st Jul 2022 11:34am)
  • I’m not great for dinner places, but I can recommend a few lunch spots if that’s any good. On Dumbarton road you’ve got Timeout, which is an Egyptian cafe which does some damn good falafel. Further along the road you have Meadow Road Coffee, who do really incredible vegan sandwiches - try the fried chicken wrap! Also, in terms of fake meat for home, you can always try out different brands. Richmond vegan sausages are *suspiciously* realistic in my mind. Sainsburys own brand ‘shroomdogs’ are lovely. Simon Howie vegan square sausage is amazing as well. Vivera’s stuff tends to be quite good - they do fake kebab meat and bacon. Also ‘This Isn’t’ are very good, I really love their chicken. There’s a particular type of veggie bacon I got from Morrisons once. Can’t remember the name to save my life, but it was a see through packet and the strips had a brown bit on them. Avoid at all costs, bloody horrific. by Gib1997 (Fri 29th Jul 2022 12:24am)
  • Hopefully this is helpful! What’s to my taste might not be to yours, but there are some good bits and pieces out there. The [fried chicken](https://www.instagram.com/p/CgYyImgKA7d/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=) really blew my mind as well. Dammit, now *I* want one… by Gib1997 (Fri 29th Jul 2022 11:13am)
