  • This is perfect, thank you! by HMourland (Wed 29th Jul 2020 3:25pm)
  • Darren McGarvey touches on this in Poverty Safari; he talks about the culture of dismissing anything new or unusual in the Glasgow working class. He talks about it in the context of school, but a lot of people stop learning the minute they are out the school gates. It stems from a rather complex mixture of psychological, social, and cultural factors. by HMourland (Thu 30th Jul 2020 8:05pm)
  • It's good, but he isn't perfect. To be fair to him, he does describe pretty clearly what it is that causes him to come across like that. It also depends on your perspective I think. My working class wife couldn't finish it, while my middle class self wasn't too bothered. by HMourland (Thu 30th Jul 2020 9:54pm)
  • It's what school does to working class kids. by HMourland (Thu 30th Jul 2020 9:55pm)

  • Dyslexic jokes are inherently ableist. In time they will be seen for what they are an will be on par with racist jokes. Don't step on the weak. Get better humour. by HMourland (Tue 4th Aug 2020 11:41am)
  • Then you have internalised ableist ideas and perpetuating of a system that dehumanises you. by HMourland (Tue 4th Aug 2020 12:13pm)

  • Depends how aware lf your own oppression you are. The sticks there mate, you're just enjoying it more than I am. by HMourland (Tue 4th Aug 2020 12:51pm)
  • Unless you've got a tidy £bill in your back pocket, you're oppressed. Buck up. by HMourland (Tue 4th Aug 2020 12:55pm)
  • Objectively that one's actually quite funny. Still ableist. by HMourland (Tue 4th Aug 2020 2:16pm)
  • I've got no friends and my wife is on the spectrum too! I think it's cool to be this open about makimg new friends as that shits hard in adulthood. Especially when you've got kids. We're moving to Glasgow, Southside soon and will be trying to figure out how to make friends. by HMourland (Wed 5th Aug 2020 5:30pm)
  • That would be lovely, as long as you like kids! I would probably hand over the social interaction to my wife. Counter to the Autistic stereotype shes got the rules of social engagement pinned down! by HMourland (Wed 5th Aug 2020 6:06pm)
  • Excellent, thanks! by HMourland (Mon 10th Aug 2020 1:51pm)
  • More _aliens_ flying around a street light. by HMourland (Thu 13th Aug 2020 4:12pm)
  • They have a warped idea of what it means to be a person. They don't know how to value themselves or create a self-identity outside of this materialistic performative cultural image. Its definitely made worse by our misuse of social media, but social media isn't the cause. Everyones putting on a show. None of them know how to be a real person. by HMourland (Sun 30th Aug 2020 11:39am)
  • >theyre stuck with themselves for life The perfect way to think about assholes like these. Sucks more to be them than it ever could to meet them. by HMourland (Sun 13th Sep 2020 9:46am)

  • Call them "selfish" all you want, it ain't wrong... But really, these are people who can't understand the true gravity of our situation. They haven't been given the tools required to comprehend a fuck up of this magnitude! So they just carry on as normal, obliviously making their situation (and everybody elses) much worse. Pity is useful... And figuring out how to stop our children from being as thick as these cunts. by HMourland (Fri 30th Oct 2020 9:45pm)

Fireworks are a wankers game. There is no need. Outlaw that shit. I moved from Blackburn to Pollokshields... the two places that show up in government documentation about firework problems. • It's actually a vintage Leica from the 1950s that I inherited from my great-great grandfather, the grandfather of Scottish Ice Photography the late Sir Rudolph Mourland. I developed it myself in the crawl space of my dilapidated tenement in order to remain authentic to Sir Rudolphs methods. Thank you for noticing. by HMourland (Sun 3rd Jan 2021 1:08pm)

  • Fuzz got called yesterday apparently. Ice looked pretty thick but not a fucking chance you'd catch me on it. Impressed by the number of locals with skates and full hockey gear though! by HMourland (Sun 3rd Jan 2021 3:44pm)
  • As a neurodivergent person I understand your confusion so will make it quite clear. Rudolph Mourland is a national treasure who brought us such collections as "Dug shite on my shoe", "Various vomits", and his seminal work as mentioned by u/Working_on_Writing, "Shite I saw in the Kelvin". He died a penniless drunk leaving only his memory to his 25 children and 18 wives. Your ignorance is a grave insult to my heritage. /j by HMourland (Sun 3rd Jan 2021 3:41pm)
  • I didn't realise it moved until somebody started launching it around. I love fast moving metal objects to the head of my children! Character building. by HMourland (Sun 3rd Jan 2021 3:45pm)
  • I didn't see that! Might have to go back for another shot. Tried to get a good pic of the frozen duck sign but couldn't brave the ice with a sleeping baby. by HMourland (Sun 3rd Jan 2021 5:24pm)
  • 90% luck. Had posted a minute earlier or a minute later I'd have been told to piss off and got a couple downvotes. by HMourland (Sun 3rd Jan 2021 5:22pm)
  • Sir Rudolph, my great-great grandfather, is the grandfather of Ice Photography. But only the Scottish practice of Ice Photography. It was invented simultaneously elsewhere in the world by other artistic geniuses. If any Scot ever photographs some ice, my family gets royalties. by HMourland (Sun 3rd Jan 2021 5:21pm)

  • I had a look actually and they have shifted to the smaller pond. Seems that the movement of all the birds keeps the ice from forming. They just shift to a smaller area apparently and the pigeons and seagulls find elsewhere to scavenge. by HMourland (Mon 4th Jan 2021 9:23pm)

  • You have assumed and assumed wrong. I love scientific research. I distain the institutions of academia and intellectual elitism. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 7:44am)
  • Anti intellectual elitism and academic institutions founded and grounded in the maintenance and expansion of outdated colonial ideas. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 7:45am)
  • You have, clearly it was a mistake to add it in. Frustrating that people are unable to register anything else in the post other than the bit that annoys them. Contemporary academia is an elitist club designed for the maintenance of the existing status quo. Information and research can and should be formed and shared in a way that is accessible. Obviously scientific rigour is necessary, but the academic culture we currently have is holding us back. It shits out fast numbers of people whos minds, behaviours, and lifestyles do not fit the pre-existing norms of a white supremacist capitalist patriarchal system where everyones primary interest is putting themselves above anybody and everybody else in the hierarchy. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 7:53am)
  • Modern academic institutions are elitist and culturally capitalist. The scientific method is necessary for exploring these topics, but the cultural elitism is not. That is what I stand against. You could have utilised your comment here to make a objectively explore the situation by asking me a question, but instead you went for assumptions about my character because I said something you don't understand... not very scientific of you. As I said, my perspectives are niche, but they are backed up by decades of research and philosophical thought. I am looking for people who have the ability to explore radical concepts they are not necessarily already familiar with, which requires a rather more flexible mindset than your own. Teachers exist as enforcers of an oppressive and abusive system designed, not to support childrens natural tendencies for learning, but to conform them to a highly specific and shortsighted data set. If you don't see that, your hours of pedagogy and neuroscience research might be well complimented by working with children and trying to see them in a more humanising way. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 8:03am)
  • I'm not doing this. Clearly my post has completely failed at its aim. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 8:11am)
  • Ahh yeah, two typos making it say something quite different than intended. Thanks. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 8:35am)
  • Studying any of these things is not important. Ive only formally studied psychology. Im more looking for people with intersecting interests for general discussion and exploration on concepts. Im a dad of 3 so not much free time, but if you are interested in discussing anything, let me know and I'll DM you. Thanks for the link. Looks really interesting. I'll check it out! by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 8:41am)
  • Jesus christ are all of you on reddit such intense cunts? by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 9:34am)
  • Yes, thanks. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 9:33am)
  • Because its not relevant, obviously. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 9:49am)
  • Because it was clearly too distracting for people to actually register anything else in the post. So obviously reposting it without makes a lot of sense... if it weren't for folks like you. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 9:47am)
  • That's the one! by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 9:46am)
  • Clearly it was a mistake thinking I could connect with people in a meaningful way on Reddit. I fully understand my position and could fully explain it to someone engaging in good faith. That ain't you. You're a classic redditor and that is a terrible thing to be. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 9:46am)
  • From the way you compete to display your intellectual supremacy, obviously. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 9:54am)
  • That was a commend specifically to you, not the main post. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 9:59am)
  • I would be very interested in articulating my beliefs to someone engaging in good faith. So far that has been nobody. I am not interested in an intellectual superiority competition where I try to "prove" my ideas are valid to somebody who has already made up their mind. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 9:57am)
  • Going for broke at this point. Fuck off you absolute bellend. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 10:02am)
  • I've got no interest in talking to any of yous. You are all awful. I wont be trying this on reddit again. Get fuck the lot of you. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 10:00am)
  • Those who take pride in harming others are among the worst society has to offer. You're a cunt mate. That's a BAD thing. Try a different personality. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 10:06am)
  • Your comment history reads like the saddest cunt in Glasgow. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 10:05am)
  • Oh shit wow! I was dead certain it was, but there is actually someone else being an arsehole who has an incredibly similar looking name to yours. That's dyslexia. I'm genuinely very sorry. I was confused by how you were being nice here and an asshole in your other comments. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 10:26am)
  • Your entire vibe is "desperate to feel better about myself". It'll never work. Your deeply entrenched feelings of inadequacy can't be meaningfully addressed by being generally obnoxious to other people. There are better ways to exist. Happier ways. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 10:25am)
  • It has become evident that my main requirement is "does not self identify as a Redditor" by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 11:04am)
  • Reddit culture is not something you should be proud to be good at. It is arrogant, elitist, and utterly obnoxious. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 11:03am)
  • Seriously? Do you not see how everything about how you have conducted yourself here is exactly what people dislike about Redditors? This intellectual superiority complex, debatebro engagement style? Its awful! You've been awful. You epitomise "Redditor" by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 11:22am)
  • I appreciate your comments here. Thanks. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 11:21am)
  • I'm not gonna read that, thanks for sharing. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 1:03pm)
  • I don't take pride in calling you a cunt. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 1:14pm)
  • No seriously, I'm dyslexic and that's a lot of words that I'm fairly confident are all an extensive insult 🤣 I'm not gonna read it. Your validation and opinion isn't something I value in any way. I was just annoyed that I tried to reach out and yall are massive bellends. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 1:14pm)
  • Just cause you've got an interest in philosophy, doesn't mean I'd like you. My mistake though. Should have made a few things more clear initially. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 1:15pm)
  • I swear you guys are all reading from the same terrible script 😂 by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 1:31pm)
  • "This man has made a post saying he's socially isolated, I'll tell him he's socially isolated. He'll like that" - Oh wise man of Reddit you truly have changed the tides of my life. You absolute, hilariously ignorant, self-aggrandising git. Also the opinion you clearly hold of children is utterly repugnant, but totally predictable for someone who conducts themselves such as you do. I literally made a post saying "I'm lonely, here are my interests, anyone share them", and you and a bunch of Reddits finest identified one aspect of what I said that you take particular personal issue with and felt it was your moral duty to make this post all about that. It's like toxic-masculinity had a baby with a REALLY boring cunt who thinks he's the bees knees. Your opinions are meaningless to me because you have made very clear you are not the kind of person I would ever enjoy connecting with. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 1:30pm)
  • Bro, you are all so confidently wrong. It's because you are all using the same intellectual superiority playbook. It is a strategy to invalidate and disregard someone who's words you don't like. The best bit about it is that it simultaneously wanks you off and tells you what a clever boy you are. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 1:41pm)
  • Good chat. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 1:56pm)
  • Oh my, do you boys genuinely think you were being nice? I didn't realise it was that bad! by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 2:08pm)
  • Your assumptions about my current state of mind, my beliefs, and the environmental precursors to those beliefs, make it impossible for us to ever have meaningful discourse. It is your confidence in those assumptions, even in the face of being told you've got it wrong, that border you on delusional. To be clear. You have misunderstood my position. I'm sorry that nobody in this sub likes you, its clear why. And I'm sorry that this is the communication style that you developed. I know some of its roots, its all pain. Nobody deserves that. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 2:28pm)
  • Classic attempt to make friends for me. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 4:13pm)
  • Top tier shit mate. I appreciate the insight. I've learned a lot. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 4:15pm)
  • Oh yeah hold on, I'm going to write out something proper. by HMourland (Thu 11th Aug 2022 4:20pm)
  • You're not wrong. It's amazing easily how people can remain ignorant to the bigger picture just because the system works for them. If the improvements aren't made accessible to the people who already exist in that space, it is perpetuating harm we could well avoid. by HMourland (Wed 17th Aug 2022 7:17pm)

  • It's cultural appropriation and it's totally justified to be fucked off about it. by HMourland (Wed 17th Aug 2022 7:26pm)
  • Because if its middle class yuppies doing it that seems a lot more likely to be poverty tourism. It's a matter of cultural appropriation or genuine expression of culture. by HMourland (Thu 18th Aug 2022 3:26pm)
  • Yeah, that's the entire point. There is a significant trend of well off young people 'poverty LARPING' because it addresses their cognitive dissonance and makes them feel better about their positions of privilege. It is a form of cultural appropriation sometimes described as 'poverty tourism'. by HMourland (Thu 18th Aug 2022 4:21pm)
  • You're as dense as rye bread mate. Conversations work better when you actually try to understand contradictory perspectives rather than working to misrepresent them. by HMourland (Thu 18th Aug 2022 6:17pm)
  • People aren’t just like this, it’s learned behaviour. We need to be asking what it is about our culture and society that makes people like this so common. by HMourland (Sun 28th Aug 2022 8:41pm)
  • “Humour” Funny guy! by HMourland (Fri 2nd Sep 2022 7:09pm)

  • Being an asshole has never been funny. It’s not getting “bent out of shape” it’s openly addressing behaviour we need to be moving beyond. by HMourland (Sat 3rd Sep 2022 8:04pm)
  • Most likely it will just be a crowd of people, some sort of stage, and a few speakers covering what the movement is about. It can be a lot of fun even if you go on your own, so if you're inclined to go I'd recommend going for it! by HMourland (Tue 6th Sep 2022 4:28pm)

  • In order for people to take responsibility for their environment they need to feel some sense of autonomy within in. Our culture is not good at cultivating this feeling. by HMourland (Wed 21st Sep 2022 10:10am)
  • I hope you find your jacket. by HMourland (Mon 26th Sep 2022 10:16pm)
  • What we need to do is normalise cleaning up. We can't keep deferring responsibility to the council as they clearly are not able to manage it. Get yourself a couple of litter pickers and get cleaning. I've started in my area and it has immediately helped me feel less angry and grossed out. We need a cultural shift to address these problems, we need to do it ourselves. by HMourland (Tue 21st Feb 2023 8:45am)
  • I'd suggest trying to find something that sounds up your street on meetups or eventbright. It can take some digging, but its helpful to find a group of likeminded people. by HMourland (Mon 9th Oct 2023 5:52pm)
  • This is an awful and classist way to think about young people who are themselves the victims of a system which does not regard them as fully human and actively seeks to limit their individual agency at any possible opportunity. by HMourland (Mon 6th Nov 2023 12:09pm)
  • This is an awful take. Rituals play a hugely significant role in human society and for many, especially teens, fireworks night is a rare opportunity to go a bit wild. Your rage is directed in the absolute wrong direction and seems riddled with classism and the kind of moral superiority that has crippled leftism for generations. Take a day off and reassess yourself. by HMourland (Mon 6th Nov 2023 12:07pm)
