  • [Here](https://www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v38/n24/tom-crewe/the-strange-death-of-municipal-england) is a great article on the decline of decentralisation in the UK. Britain has centralised over the years which in turn has led to less effective municipalities, e.g., our local councils. by HarveyCell (Tue 23rd Feb 2021 11:02pm)

  • DELETED I never called less posh white people dodgy. I’m aware you can have dodgy people regardless of social class. I’m only mentioning race because I used to be under the impression that white people didn’t want to move to Asian areas, so this is a new experience for me. by HarveyCell (Tue 11th May 2021 4:17pm)
  • DELETED They’ve literally studied this effect in Glasgow lol. But sure, pretend all is good 👌 https://theconversation.com/white-british-homeowners-more-likely-to-move-out-if-pakistanis-buy-houses-nearby-114477 “In our study, we used property registration data for the 40% most deprived census areas of Glasgow in Scotland. We created a longitudinal dataset – one that follows individual homeowners over time – constructed from the population of homebuyers recorded in all property transaction records from 2003 to 2014. “Crucially for our purposes, the property registration data we used recorded the names of both buyers and sellers in each house transaction. How people respond to particular sorts of names can reveal certain prejudices. One 2009 study based on in-depth interviews with “white” and “non-white” participants in Glasgow, for example, found that white residents responded with racialised or prejudiced attitudes when faced with the hypothetical scenario that a person with a stereotypically Muslim name was thinking of moving into the house next door. Respondents associated such names with Islamic terrorism and with stereotypes of Asian neighbours being loud, inconsiderate, and living in overcrowded conditions.” by HarveyCell (Tue 11th May 2021 5:09pm)
  • DELETED Just my experience mate. It’s called white flight And I didn’t say I was worried about race relations. Read better by HarveyCell (Tue 11th May 2021 5:06pm)
  • DELETED I said I know Asians who had a cynical view of race relations. That’s not me saying anything racist or prejudiced. My original post was about being happy to see (mostly) white people moving to my area, no idea what that offends you by HarveyCell (Tue 11th May 2021 5:18pm)
  • I never showed prejudice. You just misread what I had said. I’ve literally said nothing decisive. Me saying “I know people who feel this way” is not me demonstrating my personal views. by HarveyCell (Tue 11th May 2021 5:16pm)

  • It doesn’t go back thousands of years. It’s a dispute that began in the 20th century over two different groups of people who claim the same land. by HarveyCell (Mon 17th May 2021 7:51pm)
  • Hamas is in control of Gaza, not the West Bank. Fatah and Hamas have strong ideological disagreements. Incidentally, Hamas was in part propped up by Israel to counteract secular nationalists in Palestine. https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB123275572295011847 by HarveyCell (Tue 18th May 2021 2:27pm)
  • Nation-states did not exist at the time of the Old Testament. This isn’t purely a sectarian war either which anyone with a modicum of information on this situation would know. Christian and Muslim Palestinians are aligned, consider someone like George Habash (now deceased). This conflict is related to the events that occurred in the late 19th and early 20th century, with the advent of nation-states, decline of the Ottoman Empire, the role of the British in Palestine, and newly formed identities of people who lived in that region (Palestinians) and those dispersed across Europe and the Middle East (Jews). You can make the case for there being a Jewish state considering the persecution that they have faced as a group virtually everywhere across history. But their motivation came at the expense of people who’ve lived in that region of Palestine for centuries or thousands of years, driven out of their homes to pave way for the creation of Israel. Dismissing it as “it has always been like this” is ahistorical and amoral. by HarveyCell (Tue 18th May 2021 2:35pm)
  • Not really true. Jews lived in the Middle East **relatively** peacefully. This conflict is based on ideas of European Jews who wanted a nation state of their own. The plan to create the state wasn’t even restricted to Palestine — Madagascar was even considered an option. Every group has been involved in conflict across history. That is just a truism. by HarveyCell (Tue 18th May 2021 4:09pm)
  • It hasn’t been their homeland for that long. What you’re suggesting is tantamount to saying Central Asia has been the homeland of Persians for centuries — until Turks replaced them. Actually, Persians haven’t been in that region above Iran for centuries, it doesn’t supply them any justification to move there centuries later and forcibly move people who’ve established themselves their for centuries. Although, population genetics data vindicates that Palestinians are just as native to that region as Israelis. by HarveyCell (Wed 19th May 2021 9:09pm)
  • What constitutes somewhere being your homeland when you have had no presence there for centuries? I don't understand that logic. If my ancestors were originally from Moscow 2000 years ago, does that give me justification to create my own state there? by HarveyCell (Thu 20th May 2021 10:07pm)

  • DELETED Not sure what the red flag is. Most guys I know like talking about women... although they wouldn't explicitly state it. I guess he did say that he's probably on the spectrum. by HarveyCell (Fri 23rd Dec 2022 6:22pm)
