  • I cannot give you much advice unfortunately, but I admire your courage to tackle this problem now. It is too easy to say 'later'. As Martin Luther King said: 'The time is always right to do what is right.' I sincerely wish you the best of luck. Stay strong! -an internet stranger by Lyracs (Tue 7th Jan 2020 8:53pm)
  • If youve got any other design ideas or some criticism, please tell me! :) Thanks everyone! by Lyracs (Thu 3rd Dec 2020 5:15pm)
  • Cheers, I was suspecting that. I live in Partick myself and was disappointed not find any shapefile with the areas I would have expected. Ill give it another search and write an email to the council. Surely there has to be some information on how far each area stretches. by Lyracs (Thu 3rd Dec 2020 5:30pm)
  • Boy this is so interesting! Thanks for sharing this! I would 100% listen to that podcast. I saw that for the 1999 and 2003 election, the council was using wards with names that correspond to many of the neighborhood names. They divided the city into 79 wards instead of the 23 we have today. (SRC: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wards_of_Glasgow) Unfortunately, the city has no shapefile for these old ward boundaries. I guess for the purpose of my map I will have to digitise over these old boundaries. They won't reflect the true historic neighborhoods and some neighborhoods are still missing, but I reckon it is the closest I'll get to it for now. by Lyracs (Thu 3rd Dec 2020 8:44pm)
  • downloading it just now, will let you know later whether it has any more detail. by Lyracs (Thu 3rd Dec 2020 8:50pm)
  • cheers for digging that up. The link doesnt seem to work for me unfortunately. But such an interesting project! by Lyracs (Thu 3rd Dec 2020 8:50pm)
  • I did cut the edges a bit on purpose (sorry). It's a fine balance to get the scale right. I want people to be able to distinguish individual houses while still fitting on an a2. I am working on an updated version just now and see if I can fit some more areas into it. Thanks for the feedback! by Lyracs (Sat 5th Dec 2020 2:01pm)
  • The new version I work on just now uses 73 neighbourhoods that are derived from the 2003 electoral wards. All of them have single names (i.e. no "Yorkhill/Anderston"). I assume that google, similar to what I did in the original picture, uses the current electoral wards. They last changed in 2017 and have all between 20k-30k people living in them. Canal is the second least densely populated area and has hence no resemblance with any original neighbourhood. The 2003 wards separate "Canal" into: Summerston, Milton, Ashfield, North Kelvin, Keppochhill. by Lyracs (Sat 5th Dec 2020 2:12pm)
  • Unfortunately not. But thanks for the link anyway! Much appreciated. by Lyracs (Sun 6th Dec 2020 4:33pm)
