  • Thanks so much for this! I had a great chat with the course leader at GSofA & it’s very hands on and in a specialist unit (the hub) beside the clyde near the BBC. It seems to be a much more hands on course and the opportunity for commercial work seems strong since the Hub is used for private work too. It seems the UofG is more “esoteric” & can be more art & theory based whereas the GSofA is more hands on. As things stand, it will all be taking place in person at The Hub. The UofG at the campus. The start date is September so it’s all a bit last minute (moving back to glasgow next month, all quite sudden, long story!), my background is contemporary music, be it writing, performing or recording. My work has always used experimental sound techniques & trying to approach it from oblique angles. My wish has always been to get more into writing for screen, be it film, tv or games. I’ve scored a few short films and written music for theatre. Any tips you could offer would be massively appreciated! Or even if you fancy a coffee in Glasgow sometime to discuss? Thanks so much for taking the time to respond! I by RadioYnot (Wed 6th Jul 2022 9:34am)
  • These are all wonderful responses though bud so thank you. Really appreciate you taking the time to do this! (& I sincerely hope your hand fully recovered!) by RadioYnot (Wed 6th Jul 2022 9:43am)
  • Thanks so much for this! I had a chat with the course leader at GSofA and it definitely seemed to be the more hands on of the two - I’ve heard the UofG course described as “esoteric” compared to the GSofA course? And I guess one is an MSc and the other and MDes. What are the facilities at UofG like? Do you think it’s a good course to do to break more into private work? Scoring for film, tv, games, theatre etc & sound scaping? Thanks again for responding! I hope you had a great time doing your masters and the PhD is go! by RadioYnot (Wed 6th Jul 2022 9:39am)
  • This is great, thanks for taking the time! Yeah I’m due to speak with the course leader at UofG today, but I’ve already put my application in for GSofA & leaning more towards there as I’m definitely a better “hands on” learner than theory! Alas there is no way I can afford to do the Dundee one because of accommodation & lack thereof! Ive got people to stay with in Glasgow so that is another huge factor in studying there too. Ive got all crossed for you & your PhD & continuing studies my friend! Thank you again! by RadioYnot (Fri 8th Jul 2022 12:31pm)
  • Fantastic! Thanks again friend, you’ve been super helpful and it’s much appreciated. I looked into the games one too & it maybe a choice down the line! :) Best of luck again, & if you do end up in GSofA & I’ve been, I’ll be happy to give you a full report! Thanks again bud, be well! by RadioYnot (Fri 8th Jul 2022 3:49pm)

  • Thank you so much for this! This is a great shout! I’ll check those sites now. I’ve picked up so many transferable skills, but alas no piece of paper to “prove” it. Thank you again! by RadioYnot (Mon 29th Aug 2022 10:18am)
  • Thanks friend! I don’t have an English lit degree alas, been a working/touring musician since I was 15, the book I wrote was fairly well received though - an Irish Times Music Book of the Year in 2018 (forgive the trumpet blowing), but there’s a thousand things I would change about it on reflection! Definitely food for thought though & thanks so much for replying! All help greatly appreciated. I hope your writing brings you success & joy! by RadioYnot (Mon 29th Aug 2022 10:16am)
  • You’re a star. Thank you so much! by RadioYnot (Mon 29th Aug 2022 10:31am)

  • I am! It’s a slow process though. Thanks man! by RadioYnot (Mon 29th Aug 2022 10:59am)
  • Haha thanks for the positivity! All good, that’s why I mentioned transferable skills from a 20plus year (relatively successful) career in music. Audio, composition as well as management & facilitating etc I hope your friend is well & doing good too! Thanks again friend. by RadioYnot (Mon 29th Aug 2022 10:59am)
  • Thanks bud! I have seven albums worth of stuff up there, alas Spotify etc don’t really pay a fair amount. All the money goes to the top artists & they game it by putting their own artists on the playlists/recommendations etc Thank you again though! by RadioYnot (Mon 29th Aug 2022 11:03am)
  • Thanks so much! Yep I’m on LinkedIn but I admittedly could use it better and more frequently. Got a great consultancy gig through it last month. Thank you so much again friend! by RadioYnot (Mon 29th Aug 2022 11:01am)

  • Thank you! This is actually the EXACT sort of work I’d love to get into! So far I’ve not had much luck knocking on doors. I don’t suppose you could mention to your friend if they’d be interested in having a conversation? Totally understand if not, but thank you so much regardless! by RadioYnot (Mon 29th Aug 2022 12:33pm)
  • All hail Bobs! by RadioYnot (Mon 29th Aug 2022 12:36pm)
  • Hi! Thanks so much, yeah post production audio or composition is exactly the sort of work I’d love to get into. I’ve not had too much luck knocking on doors thus far though, but will persevere! Thank you again :) by RadioYnot (Mon 29th Aug 2022 12:36pm)
  • Thank you so so much! Audio work/post-production/composition are literally top of my wishlist for work. I appreciate you trying your friend so much, thank you again! by RadioYnot (Mon 29th Aug 2022 1:01pm)

I understand if you’d rather not but would be amazing to get a chat at some stage? Thank you so much again. by RadioYnot (Mon 29th Aug 2022 2:08pm)
  • I’m keen to meet new people as well, so this does sound great. Will have a nosey & hopefully get along when I’ve steadied this ship a little. Thank you again! by RadioYnot (Mon 29th Aug 2022 2:09pm)

  • Heya bud! Sorry, only seeing this now. Drop me a DM about it! Can’t confirm for certain right now (work pending…hopefully! Haha), but certainly happy to chat & see if I can help by RadioYnot (Fri 2nd Sep 2022 8:44pm)
  • They did an impromptu one in Manchester for the overspill I think? Saw footage of Eddie Dempsey talking to the crowd outside the cathedral. Might happen again if the numbers are there. by RadioYnot (Sun 4th Sep 2022 11:12am)
  • Cheers friend! A wash & donuts sounds perfect. Thank you! by RadioYnot (Wed 21st Sep 2022 12:38pm)

  • Thanks for this. I’ve been waiting since September last year, was initially told it would be this august but told a few months ago I’ve been pushed until at least February. What’s worse is I’m going to be moving to Edinburgh soon & im terrified I’ll just plummet down the waiting list further. Have been misdiagnosed as bipolar years ago, I’d just love some answers. I hope you’re all seen soon & get the treatment you need & deserve! by RadioYnot (Wed 9th Aug 2023 5:38pm)

  • DELETED Cheers! It’s a used item amongst a bunch of other things. Just wondered if it’s acceptable to wiggle on price a bit as I’ve done it in Ireland, England, US & Germany but didn’t wanna make any presumptions! by RadioYnot (Fri 3rd Nov 2023 1:34pm)
  • Thanks bud! I’ll definitely be polite, just thinking of spending a bit so I wouldn’t take the piss, but a wee discount for buying a few pricier bits would be obviously welcomed. Have a mighty day & thanks for responding! :) by RadioYnot (Fri 3rd Nov 2023 1:38pm)
  • I’d always found if you’re spending a bit of cash over a few items it was accepted to haggle in music shops etc just wondered if it was the same here. Thanks! by RadioYnot (Fri 3rd Nov 2023 1:35pm)
