  • Yeah. I do try to be positive about gigs and stuff, but was a bit deflated leaving this one. Mercifully I'm within walking distance so it was just ticket and the cost of my evening, think if I'd travelled I'd have been more peeved. Check setlist for gig you were at, at least four more songs! So they can go longer, just don't. Oh well! by Rainbow_Viking (Tue 31st Jan 2023 9:04pm)
  • Don't disagree there, aye. Been to a few gigs of late, at The Offspring in '21 it seemed the band were a bit low and it's been like that since as well. My Chemical Romance and Volbeat sounded big, but they were helped by crowd knowing every word. Not a great venue by any stretch. by Rainbow_Viking (Tue 31st Jan 2023 9:02pm)
  • I haven't seen them since a festival in 2009. Good show, high energy, but mates had told me they have their live standards by now. Saw that last night for sure. by Rainbow_Viking (Tue 31st Jan 2023 9:05pm)
  • You'll be grand, with a seat booked 7 gives you loads of time to find out where you're sitting, get comfortable, and wander around the venue to get your bearings before headliner starts. You might get some snacks through, but liquids are a complete no-no. Def eat beforehand if you can. Only thing I'd add is cloakroom is in the main foyer, and if you leave something in, get it before/during the encore, or you'll be stuck in line. Just in case you've to rush for public transport. I love a good arena show. Hope you've an epic time! :) by Rainbow_Viking (Wed 1st Feb 2023 2:23pm)
  • The Novice last year. Always something relatively notable, could be a big awards contender, or could just be a bigger actor doing a small film or something. Worth the gamble. by Rainbow_Viking (Thu 16th Feb 2023 6:15pm)
  • Book ahead if you can. The pickup zone is just across the road from arrivals. I fly every couple of months for work, and the one time my flight around late at night (11:30pm, delayed from 8pm), the taxi queue was huge. Since the bus service ends at midnight, taxis are only "public" transport available, and it being a weekend, local cars and Uber will be in demand around city centre. by Rainbow_Viking (Fri 3rd Mar 2023 10:16pm)
  • Lizzo's show probably won't go until 11, she'll maybe finish around 10:45, that's when the acts that I've seen there of late have ended. You'll be OK getting out of Hydro, but if you're humouring the option of a taxi, pre-book for sure. Hope you enjoy the show, bet she'll be deadly! by Rainbow_Viking (Tue 7th Mar 2023 6:26pm)
  • Have you checked out The Downbeat? By a dude named Craig Reynolds, who drums in a band called Stray From the Path. He interviews metal and hardcore bands. He's based in Glasgae and records it here. by Rainbow_Viking (Sat 18th Mar 2023 3:59pm)
  • That's a tough situation, I'm sorry it's happening. It sounds like you need to plainly tell her your current dynamic is making you unhappy, and she needs to either respect that and pull her weight more, or you'll move on. That level of drinking is intense, and it's probably ingrained in the culture of her profession/company. From your comment, I don't get the impression she's resisting this lifestyle any. Tbh, that alone might suggest it's time to take a look at the relationship, because it's unfair that you feel everything's on your shoulders while she's on the tear. Also in my early-to-mid 30s, and getting older has only emboldened my want for partners that are on a similar wavelength when it comes to partying. It sucks that you've to be the adult here and draw a line in the sand. I hope your situation improves, OP. by Rainbow_Viking (Thu 23rd Mar 2023 12:37am)
  • Hadn't thought of Astro Fest and the greater fear of it, you might be onto something there. Been to a lot of gigs over the years, and endured plenty of crushes up front. Just seemed conspicuous two shows close together were stopped to help folk! by Rainbow_Viking (Tue 18th Apr 2023 1:03pm)
  • I get that, been to plenty of big rock and metal gigs. Just not encountered two conspicuous delays so close together! That's interesting about not organising pit areas. When did that start? Dublin used to have quite regularly enough before the Point was renovated to be more like the Hydro, so much wider, thus removing the need for it a lot of the time. by Rainbow_Viking (Tue 18th Apr 2023 1:08pm)
  • Both great gigs, thankfully! by Rainbow_Viking (Tue 18th Apr 2023 1:06pm)
  • This is what I'm getting at. Have seen plenty of big shows, MCR made the Hydro feel like a tiny club. Granted, huge demand and fervent fanbase, but it just didn't seem as safe as some other larger sold out concerts I've attended. by Rainbow_Viking (Tue 18th Apr 2023 1:05pm)
  • Ah yeah, I get that, frequently part of it myself. MCR and Paramore just not bands I expected this to happen at, but maybe I'm under-estimating the intensity of their fans! by Rainbow_Viking (Tue 18th Apr 2023 1:10pm)
  • Moved almost two years ago now. Love it. Renting my own wee flat in the west end, something I couldn't get near doing in Dublin. An abundance of concerts, beautiful scenery, nice places to have a drink or grab a bite. Seems culturally cool and progressive, people are generally nice. Public transport needs improvement, especially in terms of price, but that's true of many cities and coming from Ireland ye definitely seem to have your shit more together. Drugs and drink culture has its ups and downs too. I get we probably aren't seeing what the city could be, and if you've lived here years I'm sure you've seen it even more bustling. I feel that way about Dublin - don't let that blind you to the resilient charm that's here. by Rainbow_Viking (Mon 24th Apr 2023 12:16am)
  • I've enjoyed using Songkick. If you make sure to double-check details, it's a very handy diary. Metal Gigs Scotland is comprehensive if you like metal/rock/punk, too. by Rainbow_Viking (Tue 25th Apr 2023 2:42pm)
  • Think this is the fella. Thanks, will now delete thread! by Rainbow_Viking (Sat 6th May 2023 11:47pm)
  • I work in journalism/media, 35k, senior role, England based company. 26k definitely seems on the low side compared to people I've known who work in IT and tech. Comparatively, their salaries are usually higher than mine. by Rainbow_Viking (Sun 14th May 2023 12:30am)
  • Occasionally visit Bristol for work, have a bunch of colleagues in and around the city. I think if you enjoy living there, you'll love Glasgow. I moved here just under tow years ago, find it very affordable for what the city offers. Plenty of nightlife (big concert-goer and am out very regularly for shows), great restaurants, pubs, and cafes. Lovely scenery and trails around the place, and you've got Edinburgh an easy train ride away as well. I'd consider it a progressive, left-leaning city, but I'm white and Irish, so can't comment too much on that, other than to say it does feel like a place that actively embraces diversity. by Rainbow_Viking (Mon 15th May 2023 5:41pm)
  • These are so good! If you did a small bundle of prints, I'd totally pick one up. Really novel artwork! by Rainbow_Viking (Sun 28th May 2023 6:43pm)
  • Look at that champion! Not sure I'd be brave enough for a dip, even in this weather![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin) by Rainbow_Viking (Tue 30th May 2023 1:49pm)
  • 625 p/m one bed flat between Maryhill amd Kelvinbridge underground. Got a good price as previous tenants did a bit of a number on it. Around 850 including bills. by Rainbow_Viking (Sat 10th Jun 2023 12:19am)
  • Yeah, bus from Buchanan St to airport would probably be most convenient. Won't be the easiest loading up all the suitcases, but there's a decent luggage rack on board. Otherwise, it'll be train to Waverley and then tram if you're on a budget or taxi if you've a lot of money to burn. by Rainbow_Viking (Sun 11th Jun 2023 5:11pm)
  • This is what happened in Ireland. National bus service tried to get rid of late services over weekends, claiming the demand wasn't there (total lie, usually at last half full, rammed if there was any sort of big concert on). Transport authority looked into it after public outcry, they found not only was demand there, more times should be available. Later buses were added seven days a week, and the existing late buses were made cheaper. Contact your local councillors and anyone else remotely involved, it can help! by Rainbow_Viking (Mon 10th Jul 2023 12:13pm)
  • Echoing what's in these comments, take the opportunity. Not only do you have the educational aspect, you'll have access to groups and communities within the college as well as a whole other social vibe. Sorry about your situation, that's a lot of heavy stuff to deal with. You're absolutely not dumb, and one of the great benefits of high education is the chance to get away from people that make you think that. by Rainbow_Viking (Wed 12th Jul 2023 2:25am)
  • Been meaning to check out the Barras market to begin with, actually by Rainbow_Viking (Sun 16th Jul 2023 9:03pm)
  • Aye, looking for stuff a little more specific, though that's good to kerp in mind for any recent films i end up loving! by Rainbow_Viking (Sun 16th Jul 2023 9:02pm)
  • Will do! Wobders wgat a poster in a frame can do. by Rainbow_Viking (Sun 16th Jul 2023 9:01pm)
  • Currently encountering opposite problem, online's quite pricey compared to shops I've found. Aware I could buy bespoke prints from artists, actually have a fair collection of those in different sizes. Looking for something bigger, OG Blade Runner's one I've my eye out for, proving tricky, sadly! by Rainbow_Viking (Sun 16th Jul 2023 9:00pm)
  • Always love seeing posts like these. Hope next time they come around you're able to go and have a wonderful time, OP! by Rainbow_Viking (Sun 23rd Jul 2023 4:15pm)
  • Moretti at Hydro, £6.50 - most expensive pint I've consciously and willingly bought. Only been here two years though, still time to find the ripper city centre pubs. by Rainbow_Viking (Fri 28th Jul 2023 7:05pm)
  • Have lived near Maryhill (Kelvinside) since I also moved for work two years ago, and find this whole area grand. Quiet and safe. If you can find something more towards Kelvingrove (Wilton St, Kelvinside, in that vicinity), you'll be that much closer to underground stop and more shops and pubs. Maryhill definitely has a reputation, but a combination of gentrification and just general time have calmed it down considerably, or so taxi drivers and locals tell me. I think you'll be grand. I hope the city treats you well and you enjoy your stay, and have a smooth moving in! by Rainbow_Viking (Sat 29th Jul 2023 2:54pm)
  • Mine switched to red envelopes for the last letter. Gettin' serious the noo! Haven't had a peep beyond the mail, they don't even have my name. "Legal Occupier" will be in real trouble when they arrive. by Rainbow_Viking (Sun 6th Aug 2023 3:07pm)
  • What role exactly? If you don't have a Linkedin account, set one up, be generous on your position, duties and skills. I know someone who got regular offers from recruiters on there, also an admin position. Sorry you had a bad experience, OP. But you can and will find another job, and very likely a better one too. Use some of the time job hunting to do some nice things for yourself! by Rainbow_Viking (Thu 17th Aug 2023 7:54pm)
  • Sick, who was your friend's band? Every band I saw bar one, Fit To Work, was a first time for me, which made it all even better. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it ran. A lot can go wrong on a first time event of this scale, featuring a bunch of bands who travelling from overseas. by Rainbow_Viking (Mon 21st Aug 2023 10:53pm)
  • Cwfen were great! Rolo Tomassi were the band I attended for, been trying to see them for over a decade, finally worked out, and they were worth the wait. Some really, truly heavy, noisy bands on offer, great to see them all get such support. Crowds were on good form alright, always expect to see someone who's drank too much off there's been a falling out, but people were all chill and respectful. Def appreciated that being on my own too! by Rainbow_Viking (Mon 21st Aug 2023 10:55pm)
  • Ah Problem Patterns were savage, cool to stumble on an Irish band too! ASIWYFA were spectacular, so much fun. Really a perfect way to close the Saturday! by Rainbow_Viking (Tue 22nd Aug 2023 12:18am)
  • Aye, caught one lad with a bloody nose at the bar area during Deafheaven. Another dude had to leave the pit during Chat Pile because his arm was bloodied up. I actually got a cut near my eye at Chat Pile, that mosh was intense. by Rainbow_Viking (Tue 22nd Aug 2023 12:20am)
  • Awesome! Glad your trip was worthwhile. Spent a few days in Manchester last year seeing Bad Religion, definitely seems like Glasgow and Manc have a lot in common. by Rainbow_Viking (Tue 22nd Aug 2023 8:01pm)
  • Monterey Jack's Overpriced, bad portions, like a substandard Hard Rock, and that's saying something. by Rainbow_Viking (Sat 16th Sep 2023 12:50am)
  • Loud enough, aye! Ordered a pair of loops just recently actually. by Rainbow_Viking (Sun 17th Sep 2023 6:13pm)
  • Deadly, ta! Usually go to gigs alone so never been even tempted to try tbh. by Rainbow_Viking (Sun 17th Sep 2023 6:16pm)
  • Sounds like we can just try our arm, so! Band called Lost Society, don't think it'll be massive. by Rainbow_Viking (Sun 17th Sep 2023 6:16pm)
  • Aye, have seen it down the street, especially if a bigger venue has something on. Saw a few after Crowbar just hanging out with pints, seemed grand enough. by Rainbow_Viking (Sun 17th Sep 2023 6:15pm)
  • Ach that's a shame! Both will be back in due time. Dead Label's definitely a bonus, great to see them get the opportunity as well! by Rainbow_Viking (Mon 18th Sep 2023 6:54pm)
  • I've no advice to offer on the property situation, I'm sorry this is happening. That said, regards to the breakup, boundaries need to be established. As others have mentioned, sleeping in the same bed needs to be rethought, as well as social reliance. A frank discussion about looking at you both as temporary roomies rather than a couple, and finding a livable middle-ground where you both have space to learn to live without the other's intimacy. As someone who really struggles with these processes for a variety of reasons, you have my full sympathy. This sucks, and will continue to suck, but you need to take control and move forward. by Rainbow_Viking (Sun 24th Sep 2023 9:20pm)
