  • When I worked in a supermarket the official documentation said EU driver licences because they are a standard format and easy to identify forgeries. Whereas staff couldn’t spot foreign fakes. I always advised getting a Pass logo ID card or using your passport in case you come across a stickler. You’re told the shop could be fined over £50,000 and a £1500 on the spot fine for the cashier if you are caught selling liquor to somebody underage. So the person was probably just being careful. Not deliberately trying to annoy you. by Rogertron88 (Thu 28th Feb 2019 9:49pm)

  • It's cold. So cold. Colder than you've maybe felt coming from India. Glasgow Uni attracts a lot of international students so they will probably have somebody who can answer questions like this. You could email them and ask if they have a cultural liaison. Failing that they host international gatherings as well to help you find new friends who are experiencing the same culture shock. Not coming from India I don't know myself the intricacies of Indian culture. by Rogertron88 (Tue 3rd Mar 2020 6:56am)
  • Sorry. You're American. I fixated on the Indian guy bit. The Scottish accent will be difficult for you for the first year. You'll adjust slightly but sometimes we use words that are completely out there. Our money is more complicated but colour coded. Our Mexican food is shite. We swear a lot. Trips to Europe are very reasonable. I'll add more when more comes to mind. by Rogertron88 (Tue 3rd Mar 2020 7:01am)
  • I have. Too many notes the same colour. No idea which face means what. Too many quarters. by Rogertron88 (Fri 6th Mar 2020 7:21pm)
  • Can't upvote this enough. I honestly think they have a forgive and forget machine they use on the public. Either that or as a country we are wicked, ignorant and sick. by Rogertron88 (Thu 28th May 2020 4:42pm)

  • Maybe not ideal. If the size of bags is an issue you could pay for 2 tickets. So the seat next to you is free? by Rogertron88 (Sun 29th Aug 2021 4:10pm)
  • Couple of things I know. Contact the Glasgow homeless team. They will confirm homeless statement and boost points. Apply for as many housing asociations as possible. You don't need to just be on one waiting list. Some associations give priority if your friend is able to climb stairs. Ground floor flats are a priority for those with medical needs. Make sure to complete the forms fully and correctly. A lot of people when applying don't give all the information first time and it causes a lot of delays on making an application live on the system. Given all the trouble to apply for a house. Associations aren't always the best option. They only have a small roster of properties and can only really give properties when they become available. People generally keep their property for over 20 years. If you are 28th in the queue you are waiting for 28 people to either pass away or move on. by Rogertron88 (Sun 29th Aug 2021 5:35pm)

  • I heard a rumor somewhere that you can just buy yourself a Costco gift voucher and then get in without the membership fee. It might be that a member needs to buy you the voucher. by Rogertron88 (Sun 19th Nov 2023 10:12pm)
