  • Have you applied to the telephone fundraising campaign the uni does every semester? Did it twice and it was good money, they used to hire tons of people for it too. by SpecialEnthusiasm (Fri 3rd Jan 2020 4:01pm)

  • DELETED How is this exactly Communism's fault and not the fault of being a satellite state for an authoritarian major power that exploited you for your resources? I.e. similar to what Non-Communist Western states did during the Colonial era. by SpecialEnthusiasm (Mon 6th Jan 2020 11:02pm)
  • Suggesting people read a book written by a Nazi collaborator who wanted Russian to return to a Feudal Autocracy, nice. by SpecialEnthusiasm (Mon 6th Jan 2020 11:00pm)

  • DELETED Both countries were economically subordinate to the USSR, they were just under its sphere of influence as opposed to being satellite states, their Communist governments ended shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Still victims of Imperialism. by SpecialEnthusiasm (Tue 7th Jan 2020 9:33am)
  • I'm well aware of Solzhenitsyn's life, convenient though that you didn't mention the reason he was imprisoned as a result of his counter-revolutionary, pro-Nazi activity. Alexandr Solzhenitsyn never even hid his pro-Nazi feelings; in fact he accused Stalin for driving the USSR to war instead of making an agreement with the Third Reich. He always seemed to believe it was Stalin who was to be blamed for the millions of Soviet victims in the war against fascism and not the imperialist, expansive policy of Nazi Germany! Years after the end of the Second World War, he even stated: “The German army could liberate the Soviet Union from Communism but Hitler was stupid and didn’t use that weapon”. By “weapon”, he meant the efforts of various counter-revolutionary, anti-stalinist groups to dissolve the USSR from within. Such a patriot... Also worth noting that his Fascist sympathies weren't limited to the Nazis either, he openly supported a number of far right governments around the world, including Pinochet in Chile and Suharto in Indonesia. He even agitated for Vietnam to be attacked again after its victory over the US. And more: after 40 years of fascism in Portugal, when left-wing army officers took power in the people’s revolution of 1974, Solzhenitsyn began to propagandise in favour of US military intervention in Portugal which, according to him, would join the Warsaw Pact if the US did not intervene! In his lectures, Solzhenitsyn always bemoaned the liberation of Portugal’s African colonies.” by SpecialEnthusiasm (Tue 7th Jan 2020 12:23pm)
  • Nobody aspires to be a "begging smackhead". Homelessness isn't a fad it's what happens in a country with an overinflated housing market and a government that makes almost no effort to fund proper public housing or support the unemployed. by SpecialEnthusiasm (Sun 28th Jun 2020 5:52pm)
  • It's also wrong to blame them for being drug addicts. It's been proven now that drug addiction is caused by living in a harsh environment, not the other way round. Most of them would probably trade drugs for a better life. For a good scientific study of this phenomena in mammals you should see the Rat Park experiments: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rat_Park Or for a good example of it in humans you should see this: https://jamesclear.com/heroin-habits by SpecialEnthusiasm (Sun 28th Jun 2020 7:11pm)

  • I'm not often in the city centre but I did in fact see those recently, didn't know they were a common occurrence. One of them ran my foot over doing a wheelie in front of me when I wasn't looking to try and startle me then dashed off, luckily didn't hurt or anything but can see how annoying they must be. Probs worse than drunk West end park kids because they can get away with all sorts and just ride off before you catch them. by SpecialEnthusiasm (Mon 14th Jun 2021 7:44am)
  • Been here 6 years now and no I really didn't mean to say that, nor did I imply that anywhere? Have never understood why some people like to just make up reasons to be mad at others for. by SpecialEnthusiasm (Mon 14th Jun 2021 9:30am)

  • There was a fight just outside there by the Italian restaurant on paisley road west. Two groups of rangers and Tottenham fans going at it. Police came quickly and broke it up. by SpecialEnthusiasm (Sat 23rd Jul 2022 2:44pm)
  • In terms of websites I learn about a lot of what's on through Resident Advisor or Gigs in Scotland. My main way of seeing what's on though is the Skinny magazine. You can pick up a free copy each month from CCA and they always have a calendar of all the music/art events that are planned for the next few months in Glasgow/Edinburgh. by SpecialEnthusiasm (Wed 27th Jul 2022 10:50am)
