  • I left my phone in a taxi once. I phoned the company and the taxi driver said he would hand it in to the police station. When I got there I had to pay to get it back, the taxi driver got to pick how much he wanted a reward. It wasn’t a lot of money, but I was a student so it was a pain in the arse. Since then I’ve tried to return anything I find myself! by alfiearklet (Tue 23rd Apr 2019 2:43pm)
  • Hey, I did it a few weeks ago. You had to find a route from the start to the end on the map/diagram by numbering then. The clue for the code was something like “3/4 symbol A, 1/2 symbol B” if I remember correctly, so you picked the number on the diagram with the 3rd symbol A, 1st symbol B etc. Hope that makes sense! by alfiearklet (Tue 30th Apr 2019 9:10pm)
  • Second Monzo or Starling. Starling has a slight advantage abroad as there are no limits to how much money you can withdraw. For Monzo you get charged a fee after you’ve withdrawn £200. I was away recently and was getting an exchange rate of £1 = €1.13 and we were only getting around €1.10 at home. by alfiearklet (Sun 9th Jun 2019 7:58pm)

  • I think the organisation for road closures/diversions was rotten for this march, seems like the police were making matters more complex than they had to be by alfiearklet (Sat 11th Jan 2020 3:08pm)
  • JP Morgan take a huge number of graduates from both and their verdict has been that Glasgow seems to focus more on theory and Strathclyde more on practical, if that helps at all by alfiearklet (Sat 21st Mar 2020 3:23pm)
  • It’s annoying the restrictions they’re proposing are til 10pm, means we’ll spend loads on visitor passes no doubt by alfiearklet (Thu 30th Apr 2020 8:03pm)

  • We have residents meetings regularly in the New Gorbals and loads of residents have had ongoing issues cause by people parking on or near Ballater Street. This will have been raised to the council directly by some of those residents. by alfiearklet (Fri 1st May 2020 4:42pm)
  • Nah the clothes section opened up a couple of weeks ago. At first you couldn’t get anything, then they moved “essential clothes” to the path towards the food hall. Last time I was in people were even shopping in the beauty section. by alfiearklet (Sun 7th Jun 2020 9:19am)
  • I think a lot of the beer garden places require you to book in advance - Glasgow Live has a list of all the beer gardens that were opening across the city. I tried to book West and it asked for a £40 deposit which would be taken off your bill. I don’t mind paying a deposit but you’re taking a bit of a gamble on the weather anything more than a couple of days in advance! by alfiearklet (Thu 9th Jul 2020 10:35am)
  • I live in the Gorbals, do late night dog walks on my own and I’ve not yet had any issues. Been here 5 years now. Plus council tax is cheaper than just the other side of the river, probably because people keep saying it’s rough as hell by alfiearklet (Fri 24th Jul 2020 8:27am)
  • Even during lockdown when we were only allowed one hour of exercise I’d try to leave my dog 2-3 times a week so it wouldn’t be a shock when I went back to work. I have a 2m x 2m pen for my dog so that he has room to play and sleep, but he’s a 10kg Pomeranian. Always give him a puzzle when he’s left as well, sometimes it can keep him busy for 45 mins and it means he doesn’t hate getting put away. by alfiearklet (Fri 24th Jul 2020 4:35pm)
  • I’m in the gorbals, it’s fine, probably like most other places by alfiearklet (Sun 13th Sep 2020 11:29pm)
  • I’m in the Gorbals and I use Lisa from K925 - she has been fantastic and integrated my pup in at his own pace by alfiearklet (Tue 29th Dec 2020 6:01pm)

  • It looked fairly professional, but I thought that setting off fireworks was illegal past 11pm by alfiearklet (Sat 17th Jul 2021 12:49am)
  • Loads of parks are actually quite small, no way the ones near me have their own staff - usually report overflowing bins on the app and they’re dealt with quickly (outside the strike) by alfiearklet (Thu 4th Nov 2021 7:52am)
  • The Glasgow Green display is definitely not happening, and I heard that local ones weren’t happening in general as there was enough resources to police both fireworks and COP26. Worth checking a council website though? by alfiearklet (Thu 4th Nov 2021 7:50am)
  • So we’ve just got to tolerate everyone and their granny setting off their shite rockets all night by alfiearklet (Thu 4th Nov 2021 8:02am)
  • Similar experience. I got the STEM grant to do the PGDE which is available because they’re “desperate” for teachers but most people on my course couldn’t find a full time job. Maybe if us have gone back to industry… by alfiearklet (Fri 18th Feb 2022 11:00pm)

  • Haha there’s another brand of plain loaves that are sometimes in the wee shop near me but they seem to fit in my current toaster better. This is a Scottish Pride specific issue! by alfiearklet (Tue 29th Mar 2022 10:29am)

  • Polmadie furniture section has been closed/blocked off the last few times I was there - furniture doesn’t appear to be on the signage anymore either. Think they’ve stopped taking it by alfiearklet (Sat 3rd Dec 2022 8:09am)
  • Are you working at one of the banks? I know there’s quite a lot of applicants for the tech jobs from India who move over and there is a lovely community from all over India in areas around the city! by alfiearklet (Wed 18th Jan 2023 11:06pm)
