  • alright. thank you :) by bhokali (Mon 5th Apr 2021 7:57pm)
  • Its Atrium Hotel Heathrow and its located at Great South West Road Opposite Hatton Cross Station, Feltham. by bhokali (Wed 26th May 2021 4:38pm)
  • > 45kg is that just two suitcases? I am sorry, I have almost 90kg luggage, 45 each. Trains are direct or require transfer? And what will be the approx ticket price for one person? by bhokali (Wed 26th May 2021 4:41pm)
  • Oh okay. But with flight, I am not sure if i will be asked to quarantine again which i definitely want to avoid. But thanks for your tips, I will look for flight tickets. by bhokali (Wed 26th May 2021 4:54pm)
  • Thanks a lot for your response and explaining the route. I will probably stick to your advice. by bhokali (Wed 26th May 2021 4:57pm)
  • Thank you so much for your warmth :) by bhokali (Wed 26th May 2021 5:12pm)
  • I fear that only. I have already paid huge hotel bills and would like to prefer a budget friendly way to reach Glasgow. Appreciate your help and advice :) by bhokali (Wed 26th May 2021 5:16pm)
  • Sounds great. I was not aware that prices vary with time. In my country, we have flat prices. I will keep this in mind and will start early. I need another help regarding accommodation, so i found a place on spareroom and have to pay advance to the landlord. He sent me the agreement but i received it from ****@amcosmos.com. I dont want to sound rude to him or anything but how to ensure that its not a fake posting. I have no clue. Do you have any tips? or shall i make a new thread for this? by bhokali (Wed 26th May 2021 6:29pm)
  • I have 4 bags in total. I guess flight will to too expensive for me, after paying huge quarantine hotel bills. But i will definitely keep your advice as a backup option. > Flying is overall easier and recommended if taking the train is around the same price. Yes, agreed. But if I am taking flight, I will have to come to University of Glasgow again. by bhokali (Wed 26th May 2021 6:37pm)
  • Sorry for the confusion, I assumed that Airport will be located in outskirts and i will have to travel again to the University of Glasgow from there which will be additional cost. > If you are taking the train, check nationalrail.co.uk and thetrainline.com Thanks for sharing the website links. I will check them out. by bhokali (Wed 26th May 2021 7:16pm)
  • > Check my post above, I just edited it to give you more info you may find useful. This is so helpful. I am really thankful to the good folks at r/Scotland for their super helpful replies. Thank you very much :) by bhokali (Wed 26th May 2021 7:23pm)
  • Great. Thanks for the heads up. by bhokali (Wed 26th May 2021 7:43pm)
  • Sorry, i forgot to mention (I will add it now) that as soon as i go there, I will have to pay 550 more to complete my total deposit. This money is to seal the deal so that he can remove the listing form Spareroom. by bhokali (Wed 26th May 2021 8:16pm)
  • University of Glasgow :) by bhokali (Thu 27th May 2021 5:33am)
  • Hey, Thank you for you advice. Many people suggested me Train and I am coming with my partner, so i guess we both will be able to move our luggage. But I will also check out buses. > Are you staying the halls? Which one? I will be staying off campus. Are you also a student in University of Glasgow? by bhokali (Thu 27th May 2021 5:49am)
  • Hey, I will also consider this an option however but i prefer to carry my luggage with me. Thanks for your reply. by bhokali (Thu 27th May 2021 5:53am)
  • After reading all the suggestions, train sounds okay to me. Thank you for you reply. by bhokali (Thu 27th May 2021 5:51am)
  • Thank you so much for explaining the routes to me. This is super helpful :) by bhokali (Thu 27th May 2021 5:58am)
  • Thanks for your reply and sharing the link. Yes, Its per person 20kg, I am not sure if they will allow me and my partner with 45+45kgs. by bhokali (Thu 27th May 2021 5:57am)
  • Thanks for your reply. He agreed to show me the place if i can send someone to see it, so i will ask someone from my lab to visit the place. Will that be fine? Do you have any tips? by bhokali (Thu 27th May 2021 5:55am)
  • Great. Can you help me in this situation? I have created a thread for this - https://old.reddit.com/r/GlasgowUni/comments/nloquf/how_not_to_get_duped_on_spareroom_by_a_fake/ by bhokali (Thu 27th May 2021 8:32am)
  • Sure. Thanks for the heads up. Even i would not like to carry heavy luggage during rush hours creating problem for me and other fellow passengers who are in hurry. I will keep your advice in mind. by bhokali (Thu 27th May 2021 8:30am)
  • Sure. I did that. Thanks for your help and warmth :) by bhokali (Thu 27th May 2021 9:14am)
  • Thank you so much for your reply. I would like to tell you that the person showed me (a friend of mine) the property and even send me the agreement details. He is asking for an upfront £100 so that he can hand me the keys and rest i can pay on the day i move in. Also, I am planning to say off campus, so not sure if University can help me in that. by bhokali (Thu 27th May 2021 9:13am)
  • Thanks for telling me about it. I will see what I can do. But I am also worried that if i dont pay the deposit, he might give it to someone else and I dont have a place to stay after my hotel quarantine. by bhokali (Thu 27th May 2021 9:17am)
  • Oh, I was not aware of that. Thanks for the heads up, I will look into that before booking the ticket. by bhokali (Thu 27th May 2021 9:24am)
  • > Get in touch with the uni of you need to - if you're joining a lab you'll likely never need them much once started so might as well bug the hell out of them now! Haha... fair enough. I am not sure how culturally welcomed it in Scotland to ask someone for help without knowing them well. I also did not want to make someone got out for my work during covid. But after your advice, I will probably ask them :) Can I PM you for more questions if you dont mind? by bhokali (Thu 27th May 2021 9:23am)
  • No problem. Thank you by bhokali (Thu 27th May 2021 9:27am)
  • haha.... Drinking beer in a public transport sounds a bit scary for someone who is visiting a country for first time. I will keep your advice in mind for my future trips :) Thanks by bhokali (Thu 27th May 2021 9:26am)
  • I will look into that. Thank you by bhokali (Thu 27th May 2021 9:34am)
  • After reading the advice on this subreddit, I asked for some sort of identification from the owner which made him furious and I was so shocked to see it because that is the least someone would ask for after coming to a all new country for the first time and sending advance to an unknown. Now, he just texted me saying that he don't want to give it to me because I am asking too many questions. by bhokali (Thu 27th May 2021 1:09pm)
  • > broadband genie Thanks. I was looking for something like this only. I hope they don't filter out results of those who don't pay them. by bhokali (Thu 3rd Jun 2021 1:44pm)
  • Thanks for this chart. Very helpful. by bhokali (Thu 3rd Jun 2021 1:47pm)
  • I will check it out. Thanks by bhokali (Thu 3rd Jun 2021 1:45pm)
  • Oh okay, I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for your input. by bhokali (Thu 3rd Jun 2021 1:45pm)
  • Yeah, I might move to a different place in 6 months or so. As you said, all reasonable plans are for 12+ months. Can I ask them to give me for a shorter period i.e 4 or 6 months? by bhokali (Thu 3rd Jun 2021 1:56pm)
  • Thanks. I will check them out. by bhokali (Thu 3rd Jun 2021 3:55pm)
  • I am a moderate user but because of online lab meetings, my monthly data consumption is 250-300GB per month. by bhokali (Fri 4th Jun 2021 6:16pm)
  • Sorry, I should have mentioned this in the post. I am 32 and my partner is 33. We are not registered with a GP. by bhokali (Fri 11th Jun 2021 5:26pm)
  • Thanks a lot. I will contact the given no. by bhokali (Fri 11th Jun 2021 6:28pm)

  • Thank you so much for your reply. Can i dm you for further questions? by bhokali (Sat 12th Jun 2021 4:27pm)
  • Thanks a lot for your reply. Do i also have to pay for GP registration? I would like to tell you that I already have paid health insurance to NHS before arriving in UK. by bhokali (Sun 13th Jun 2021 5:42am)
  • Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much for your comprehensive reply. by bhokali (Sun 13th Jun 2021 4:04pm)
  • Thank you. I wasn't aware of this. I will contact the local councillor if needed. by bhokali (Wed 30th Jun 2021 7:54pm)
  • > In Scotland there are no fixed term tenancies. You give notice, and you're out of there in 28 days. Oh, she has been misleading me about this also and said that I have to stay here for a whole year. Few days back only i read this that I can leave the house after a notice of 28 days. > Do you live with the landlord, sharing a living room/bathroom/kitchen with her? No, I live with flatmates who are living in other rooms. Also, thanks for your kind words and reply. by bhokali (Wed 30th Jun 2021 7:54pm)
  • Thanks for your reply. The pdf which you shared is really helpful and self explanatory. by bhokali (Wed 30th Jun 2021 7:58pm)
  • > Did you receive confirmation that your deposit is protected by Safe Deposits Scotland? If not, they are in breach of the law, and you may be able to claim restitution (up to 3 times the deposit). No, I have been asking her for the proof so the same but she has been telling me that she will get it and it has been one month :( by bhokali (Wed 30th Jun 2021 8:00pm)
  • Yes, I am able to find the landlord registration. Also, there is fire extinguisher and smoke alarm but I am not sure about monoxide alarm. She is indeed running a HMO setup as you said as I have signed a separate contract and my other roommate has signed it for a different duration. by bhokali (Wed 30th Jun 2021 9:28pm)
  • The landlord doesn't lives with us and i moved 1 month back. by bhokali (Wed 30th Jun 2021 9:30pm)
  • > assuming there's gas in the property, were you given a copy of a valid and up to date gas safety certificate when you moved in? No > were you given a copy of an up to date electrical safety certificate? No > were you given a copy of the Energy Performance Certificate? No > were you given a "how to rent" guide? Either the "Easy Read Notes for the Scottish Government Model Tenancy Agreement", or the "Private Residential Tenancy Statutory Terms Supporting Notes"? No > You paid a deposit - how long ago did you pay it, and has it been put in a deposit protection scheme? I paid it in the beginning of the last month which makes it 30 days.I have not received any documentation of deposit protection scheme from the landlord or any authority. > How much is the rent, and how much was the deposit? The deposit can't be more than the equivalent of 2 months' rent. My rent is and deposit is 500. > Were you charged anything apart from rent and deposit? They can't charge you for referencing, or a holding deposit, or key money, or anything else - only rent, and the damage deposit. No, I did not pay anything else then the rent and deposit. > Is she on the landlord register? https://www.landlordregistrationscotland.gov.uk/search No, property is registered with someone else's name. She said that she is daughter of the owner and also the caretaker of the property. > you say you live with flatmates, so there are at least three of you. A property with three or more people who aren't related to/in relationships means the landlord needs an HMO licence. Is there one in place? No, we were not given any license or asked to sign any document for the license. > Is there a smoke alarm in the living room, in the hallway, and a heat alarm in the kitchen? Assuming there's a gas boiler or a gas cooker, is there a carbon monoxide alarm in the room with them? smoke and heat alarms are there but I am not aware of the carbon monoxide alarm. And, I am so thankful to your for writing this comprehensive reply and advice. Thank you so much. by bhokali (Wed 30th Jun 2021 9:42pm)
  • Sure. She is supposed to come today to collect the rent. In case she refuses to honor the 28 days notice rule, then I am definitely going to contact living rent. Thank you for your reply. by bhokali (Thu 1st Jul 2021 4:37am)
  • sorry that you got downvoted but in case she dares again to mislead me, I will contact the councillor for sure. by bhokali (Thu 1st Jul 2021 4:45am)
  • Great. I will try asking these things when she comes today to collect the rent. > It doesn't matter that she's managing the property for her mother, and she needs to be a registered agent on the landlord register if she's managing it for her mum. Aah, I was not aware of this. > You should definitely speak to Shelter Scotland about this landlord, because she's breaking the law in so many ways, not least of which is trying to con someone into a year long tenancy. Yeah, I definitely dont want to create problems for her but I also fear that she will definitely repeat these things in the future with new tenants. But yeah, thanks for taking your time and explaining things in detail. I am grateful to you and the super helpful folks in r/Glasgow. by bhokali (Thu 1st Jul 2021 4:52am)
  • Definitely. I have most of the records in my whatsapp but I will make sure that my next landlord is disclosing all details about the property. Thanks for your suggestion. by bhokali (Thu 1st Jul 2021 7:43am)
  • Thanks for your reply. I dont want to take any legal measure (unless water is above the nose) as I am aleady overburdened with my research and studies but I will definitely keep your advice in my mind. by bhokali (Thu 1st Jul 2021 7:41am)

  • Hey, I am sorry that you also had a pleasant experience with your landlord. I ignored her first remark but if it is coming again, I am definitely going to get in touch with the police. As far as contacting my Univ. is concerned, most of them are working form home and honestly i thought that i don't want to bother others with my problems but if needed, I will contact them. Thanks for sharing your experince and suggesting me what to do. by bhokali (Thu 1st Jul 2021 7:55am)
