  • Yep, and the fact that you don't need money to call the police. Maybe a small amount of cash to put up posters around the city, but they spent silly money on a dog so they've got cash flow. by clearly_quite_absurd (Sat 17th Apr 2021 10:49am)

  • > From my experience of years of renting in Edinburgh, Stirling and Glasgow I’ve started to think that they just tack on a “professional cleaning fee” as standard, and hope that you won’t contest it. Then they don’t actually carry out a professional clean, they just pocket the cash and rent to the next people. I have never moved into a flat that didn’t need a thorough clean. This is my suspicion too. by clearly_quite_absurd (Tue 13th Jul 2021 5:46pm)
  • I used to let from Clyde Letting. New build. Flatmate punched a hole in the wall after losing at poker. Absentee landlord decided to sell the flat. Clyde letting tried to charge for cleaning (flat was spotless) but not the obvious wall damage. So it was clear to me that they were trying to profit from cleaning fees. I challenged the fees and they said "oh half of the fees we charge were supposed to be paid by the landlord". I asked to see what needed cleaned and asked for a receipt. They then dropped the cleaning charges. Bunch of crooks. by clearly_quite_absurd (Tue 13th Jul 2021 5:45pm)

  • Letting agencies will try and charge you for cleaning anyway. Take photos of your clean flat. Contest it through safe deposits Scotland if they ask for the money. Fuck them! I lived in a flat where my flatmate punched a dent into the drywall when angry. The letting agency charged us for cleaning, but not that damage. So I knew they hadn't inspected. The landlord was selling up. I contested it and got the full deposit back. by clearly_quite_absurd (Thu 17th Aug 2023 12:30am)

From the Ukrainian folk I know, most are expecting to go home and not put down roots, but honestly, borscht is absolutely delicious and would make great street or festival food business.
