We’re adopting a greyhound at the end of the week and dogs off the lead is one of my main worries when walking her. I see so many dogs in Queen’s Park that have terrible recall and their owners just do nothing. These owners would be the first to have a go at me if my dog got freaked by their fluffy cockapoo running up to my prey driven greyhound.

Donating as soon as I get paid. This place gave me my work experience when I was in college and when I was struggling for money, they sorted me with food vouchers, drove me to the food bank and even offered to give me money out of their own pocket for food. An excellent charity and organisation, they do so so much for the working class of Govan and Glasgow as a whole

Not only the density of population but it’s a working class city. A lot of people work with the public and don’t have the luxury of working from home not to mention employers won’t pay sick pay if you have to self-isolate

I have the Gett app which lets you order a black hack wherever you are at a fixed price. If I’m needing a taxi and struggling I order one there and one on Uber and the first that gets a driver gets to take my money. Gett’s a bit more expensive but drivers are always nice and it means you can leave a review/have their reg number to complain

Depending on the luggage that you’re planning on bringing with you, I find the train cheaper. I book about a month in advance using the Trainline and it costs around £100 for a return. In contrast, flying can cost over £100 once you’ve added any bags. Especially considering most airlines don’t even let you have cabin baggage anymore without paying. The train you can bring what you like and I find it much more comfortable and less stressful

Don’t get glasses online. I used to work in an opticians and the reason they do all the mad measurements with the glasses on is so that the lenses fit your eyes perfectly. I’m 26 and go out maybe once a month for a late one in town. My methods if I’m out without my partner are to try every single possible taxi option until I eventually get one that’s usually over priced but as a woman getting home on my own that’s the only choice. If I’m with a friend who lives closer to town, I’ll walk to theirs and try for a taxi from there or stay over. Me and my partner are going out on Saturday tho and planning to try the night bus now that they’re back running
by
donnygal
(Thu 16th Jun 2022 11:20am)
The issue with the buses is that no one that can change anything (council etc.) listen to you when you complain. Pre-pandemic I worked in Maryhill and had to travel from the Southside every day. Almost every day I was either late to work or late getting back. I complained to First Bus every single time and even emailed the CEO a few times until he told me to stop emailing him. When I contact my local councillor, all First did was send me a free week bus pass to compensate for one instance I’d reported. First don’t care and I honestly don’t think the council do either. I’m lucky enough to still work from home but if I was asked back to the office I’d probably start learning to drive almost immediately.

I have a weekend ticket and after last night, I wish I didn’t. Full of the most awful teenagers that Glasgow has to offer. They were all steamin or out their nut on eccies. They had 0 respect for people around them who were also trying to have a good time, constantly talking while there’s a literal band playing and they’ve paid to see them. All of them were arguing with stewards and security. I got there at 2pm and within five minutes I saw a group of teenage girls being escorted out by security and one of them has pissed herself. If organisers aren’t careful, it’ll be completely cancelled just like T in the Park qas

The only thing I can think of is data entry but those jobs are hard to come by. Honestly, I used to have crippling social anxiety and now since working in call centres most of my adult life and going to therapy, I hardly have it anymore. Not the ones he asked for a reference for but that was one of his points, landlords ask for rigorous checks and references from potential tenants but we’re not allowed to do the same. If it became more common, or something like OP is suggesting it may fix the issue of landlords not looking after their properties

I saw that it can badly impact credit. Apparently the best thing to do is complain about the bill then they can’t send you to debt collectors until it’s resolved. Then bring the complaint to so called deadlock and bring to Ofgem. People are saying this is more effective than loads of people not paying. However, I do ask the question of, surely loads of people are just not going to pay anyway because they simply can’t afford it?
by
donnygal
(Wed 3rd Aug 2022 2:45pm)
The point of this one video I saw was more that if you complain enough to Ofgem, something may get done. Plus the fact that the energy companies are charged £500 by Ofgem for each complaint brought against them. Only works if loads of people do it though which, much like lots of mass action ideas, most people don’t have the time or energy to do.

I don’t know if I would say it’s less bad here, I think perhaps more subtle. One woman above posted about a man trying to strike up a conversation about her name in a Starbucks. Some people are saying “What’s wrong with that?” Women know when something isn’t right and when a man’s intention is sinister, we aren’t stupid. I’ve had a lot more situations like that then “classic” sexual harassment. Also have had quite a few instances of quite serious harassment such as a man jumping out of bushes at me in the pitch black, twice, one day after the other. Been followed after getting off the bus. Been groped. Catcalled. Also was raped a few years ago. So I think it’s maybe not AS bad in Glasgow as other places but still pretty bad.

Doesn’t surprise me. The amount of times I see cars running red lights, speeding or, my biggest pet peeve, not indicating is a joke. Not indicating annoys me so much because they don’t do it and then turn a corner when I or other pedestrians are crossing because we think it’s safe and then the driver gets annoyed at pedestrians. I get that sometimes the bulb goes and you don’t know but I highly doubt that all of the drivers I see doing this have faulty lights.
by
donnygal
(Thu 9th Feb 2023 4:25pm)
What about residential streets where there isn’t pedestrian crossings?
by
donnygal
(Fri 10th Feb 2023 1:15am)
If I get to a crossing, say a crossroads and there’s a car coming towards me from the front not indicating and I wait and then they don’t turn and then there’s another car coming from the right again not indicating so I wait AND THEN there’s a car coming from behind me AGAIN not indicating, then I could be stood there for potentially almost 3 minutes, possibly more if more cars come. How is that reasonable when I am also trying to get to a destination just the same as car drivers? And that would all be because the cars did not indicate. If you don’t indicate that you’re turning down the street I’m trying to cross, I’m gonna cross it because you are not doing what you’re supposed to do according to the law and the highway code. And if a car then does turn without it’s indicators on, almost running me over, I’m then going to shout “BIG STICKS ON THE SIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL, USE THEM.”

It really depends on the style you want it done in eg. traditional, realistic, neo-traditional, fine line etc. I’d look up tattoo styles and then look on Instagram for artists in Glasgow doing that style. Beware of an artist who does everything and anything with no particular style because in my experience, it’s never as good as someone who is specialised in a specific style. If you’re not sure, I’d try to find an artist you just like the work of and ask for a consultation with then.

Honestly it’s luck of the draw at this stage. We bought a two bed tenement in 2021 in Battlefield and only went £5000 over home report, we were the first to look at the flat and first to offer and got it straight away. We did have a good few flats before then though where we offered more over home report and we were well below the other offers. I also have friends who have bought in the area who put in about 15-20 offers before finally being accepted and that was them putting every last penny in to it. You can get lucky like we did but even non-tenement properties in this area are going for a significant amount over home report. Idk where people get the money from tbh.

I agree. If you can afford it, it’s just a better way to experience student life here. I was only paying £350 per month when I lived in town tho so was much easier

Only ever eaten Blue Lagoon pished but I don’t think I’d go in sober. My fave chippy is the aptly named, Best Chippy Hampden

I don’t particularly like King Tuts because I can get a bit nervy in crowds and when it’s sold out, there isn’t really anywhere to go other than downstairs to the bar. You could arrive early and talk to the staff though and they may have suggestions. Also for future reference, O2 Academy staff are generally really good if you tell them you’re struggling in the crowd for whatever reason.

Sunshine No.1 in Mount Florida is all items made by Scottish artists, mainly glasgow. They do candles, skincare, art, pottery, etc. And the owner is lovely too!

The First Bus app shows the option to buy a yearly student ticket for £440. With that you just flash your student ID if asked but I never get asked for my ID

I absolutely think this, so many dog owners in the Southside do not train their dogs properly and let them run ragged

It’s important to do your research no matter how small the tattoo is because if you go to the wrong person, it could still turn out shite. Plus different artists have different styles that you may like or dislike.

When people talk too loudly and consistently during a gig, I ask them why they didn’t just go to the pub instead

Unfortunately they don’t cook the meat separate to the vegan options so not a great option if you care about that or have any allergies

Sugo is overhyped. It’s just salty, bad pasta in a trendy setting. Much prefer somewhere like Sarti

This has been happening more frequently. I’m in 3rd year and up until the past couple of months, I had never been asked to show my ID. When I started uni, I would show it to them when I got on the bus and got a funny look from the driver so I stopped. Now it’s the opposite. It’s really not an issue tho, I just have it ready to show again now because it’s obvious they’ve been told to crack down on it đ¤ˇđģâī¸

Sunshine No.1 in Mount Florida is a great shop that sells work by local artists and Scottish artists in general. The owner could definitely recommend other artists too if you didn’t find anything you like in there

I can’t see people’s email addresses, it’s so that if I want to contact for more info, I do it through Google but I can’t see details. You don’t have to fill it in if you don’t want to.

little_sheba_ttt on Insta who I believe works at Black Abbey does some proper American trad stuff. Duncan Sweeney is also great! Tbh, they’re the only two I can think of as most other people are neo-trad
