  • I believe the first categories outwith care homes and key workers are going to be contacted by letter in the first stage (based on Nicola Sturgeon's response to opposition questions on Monday). They may update that method as the vaccination capacity and number of doses available becomes clear. As the aim is for all over 50s and with specific underlying conditions to receive the first dose of a vaccine by May, I'd imagine your parents would be looking at March/April for their first dose . by fiercebrocally (Wed 6th Jan 2021 10:57am)

  • I'm a Journalism Studies grad and can confirm that without additional practical skills and contacts picked up on your own time, the course won't get you far in the field. My uni friend who had the strongest media career actually studied History, but made the contacts and put the practical work in. I did a couple of years as a magazine writer/editor which gradually mutated into PR, comms and events. It may have changed over the years, but pals who did the Film and Media practical courses felt a bit short-changed, especially those who had done college courses and felt like they were retreading old ground rather than learning new things. It looks like they might have bulked that side up since my time, but if that's your core reason for studying you might want to look at your options. Absolutely loved my time at Stirling though, campus living is great fun. by fiercebrocally (Fri 2nd Apr 2021 2:42pm)
  • Like others have said, it will be pretty rancid on the warm days when they want to use those nice balconies. The smell is definitely present most of the time. I live on the other side of Dalmarnock Road, the smell doesn't make it quite this far, but walk past the new flats weekly. by fiercebrocally (Thu 15th Apr 2021 10:46am)

  • Definitely doesn't arrange an appointment for you, your appointment will have already been arranged and the letter being prepped for printing/delivery. by fiercebrocally (Wed 26th May 2021 11:29am)
  • I've been doing similar, but have come to the conclusion that appointments must be confirmed around two to three weeks in advance based on supply and staffing and before that it can't really give you any info. Understandable but frustrating when my neighbour who is a year older and registered with same GP heard last week (I'm 34). by fiercebrocally (Wed 26th May 2021 11:55am)
  • May I ask which number you went for? 34 but all my same aged friends have heard and I'm just getting the 'you'll be on the list, be patient' whenever I enquire. by fiercebrocally (Thu 10th Jun 2021 10:20pm)

  • For your wife Check the salary scales on the Scottish Negotiating Committee for Teachers website and the qualification requirements on https://teachinscotland.scot/ She'll need to apply for registration with the general teaching council for Scotland. It's taking them a long time to process applications at the moment. She may go in on the first level of the salary scale as she may be given provisional registration by GTCS, but once she's gained full registration she should be able to negotiate with her employer for recognition of her experience and the salary uplift. Warning though, there is a dearth of teaching jobs at the moment because of stretched budgets and over recruitment at the universities and she may find it hard to find a job without experience of the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence. by fiercebrocally (Sat 17th Jun 2023 10:03am)
