  • Same, originally from London, got a lot of shit down there my whole childhood. Been living in Glasgow 6 years never had anyone even double take. People are generally happy to know I stay in Anniesland and have never asked about my English accent, nor why I'm brown. by kaichoublue (Fri 1st May 2020 6:12pm)
  • Yupppp, I'm a waitress and I understand that people like making conversation. But if you ask me where I'm from and I answer well I'm originally from London but I stay in Anniesland that really should be the end of the questions. But alot of tourists and English business men will either probe with one of the following questions, "where are you really from?" "Where are your parents from?" "But you have different hair/skin complexion? (While they touch either my hair or skin)"... sometimes people get creative and say "Oh I'm a linguist and was wondering what is your mother tongue?" I'm like mate my accent is a north London accent, a tiny bit influenced by a west Scottish accent, I literally don't speak any other language. If you really must know my family migrated from Portugal 2 generations ago. And people still aren't happy with that as Portugal is a "white" country. Then I usually have to end it with a history lesson on colonisation and what African countries Portugal used to own. by kaichoublue (Sat 2nd May 2020 9:32am)
  • Haha yup people are weird when it comes to ethnicity and identity. Like it's all made up let me decided how to identify, but also don't touch my hair/face it's weird I don't know you like that. My husband is Polish and my kid looks pretty eastern European/white, which is even more confusing to people. Guys this is how genetics works, sorry it doesn't fit your preconceived prejudices. by kaichoublue (Sat 2nd May 2020 10:21am)
  • Yes I think this is what I'm going for. No other bubba's we are the only young family here. Everyone else is of retirement age. They all own their flats, where we rent the top floor flat which I why I wanted to make sure not to step on any toes. by kaichoublue (Fri 29th May 2020 11:22am)
