  • Ibop at the Pollokshields Ex Serviceman’s Club plays indie and alternative stuff from the 70/80/90s and the age group is easily 30+. Cheap booze and no judgement when it comes to dancing. Used to be on first Friday of every month but not as regular now, check their Facebook by la85 (Thu 2nd May 2019 11:46am)
  • I saw it in London, there’s some spooky bits and loud bangs but overall it’s pretty silly in a good way. by la85 (Thu 19th Sep 2019 6:24pm)
  • If your wee one is over 3 they are entitled to 15 hours of free childcare, which I believe is going up to 30 hours in the next year or so. If they’re under 3, unless you earn something like over 100k, you’re entitled to tax free childcare. You pay in 80% of the childcare cost into a government account and they top it up with the additional 20% and it’s paid to the nursery through that portal. It’s a bit of a fiddle but definitely worth it. All the free childcare is dealt with via the government website so that’s your best place to start. by la85 (Fri 1st Nov 2019 8:36am)
  • Cool thank you :) by la85 (Sun 1st Dec 2019 7:10pm)

  • I sold a flat in Crosshill which is surprisingly a conservation area. I had upvc windows put in to replace old wooden tilt and turn but originally they were sash. It wasn’t mentioned at any point during my purchase or my sale. We also replaced the down pipe at the front of the property with upvc as we were desperate for repairs and cast iron ones were out of the question. No one batted an eyelid and the council even paid a missing share for it. I wouldn’t worry to much about it, if anyone flags it you can discuss it when it comes to missives. Good luck! by la85 (Tue 10th Dec 2019 8:03pm)

  • We used them on our tenement roof as well. They were really accommodating to our budget (or lack thereof) Did have snagging issues as was a relatively big job but they’re Checkatrade registered so once I got on to them, they were back out in a flash. They also delivered flowers as an apology for causing me grief when I had just had a baby! by la85 (Mon 5th Oct 2020 1:48pm)

  • I had tickets for this but I was so freaked out about the prospect of catching Covid I went for dinner at Bread Meats Bread, shoulder to shoulder eating and drinking with a hundred strangers ... Me and my friend call it The Last Supper now by la85 (Tue 26th Jan 2021 9:59pm)
  • LOL, my parents had tickets and they actually went. Everyone thought I was losing my marbles. by la85 (Wed 27th Jan 2021 4:06pm)
  • It's got a few nice cafes, Honey and Salt as well as Salmagundi. Stefano's pizza is good too, along with a fishmongers and some well stocked off licences. There's an art studio/gallery called Mount Florida Studios. It's a nice place but wildly busy on match days, and the flats are a bit smaller than G- Hill. by la85 (Wed 17th Feb 2021 12:09pm)
  • Can believe that. We went to see a wrecked bungalow in Merrylee offers over £200k, HR was £220k and my solicitor said it went for £280k. We offered £260k figuring we’d need to keep £30k back to get it to a liveable standard (and my partners a plasterer) by la85 (Mon 29th Mar 2021 7:31pm)
  • We used the missing shares scheme on our tenement roof for a landlord who wouldn't pay. The council add it on to the title deeds so it gets taken off the profits when they sell up. by la85 (Tue 30th Mar 2021 10:12am)
  • If you make an offer through a solicitor, they usually have an in house broker who won't charge you anything as they get paid a fee by the lender. You don't need to pay the solicitor until you have an offer accepted. I've always used Aberdein Considine in Shawlands and they're great. by la85 (Wed 31st Mar 2021 11:42am)
  • I went to UWS (then Paisley Uni) at the Ayr Campus. That's where all the media courses are based. I did Digital Art with filmmaking modules. I thought the tutors were all great with lots of experience in the industry. I actually ended up working in TV after leaving which I now do full time, but as far as I'm aware, no one else from my course, or people I knew from the film course work in media or the arts. Didn't think much of the campus or the union, but that was prior to it all being renovated a few years ago. by la85 (Fri 2nd Apr 2021 12:25pm)
  • Moved to Ayrshire at the end of last year during lockdown. It's beautiful but I've struggled working from home whilst my partner is out at work. I'm alone literally all week, and with lockdown it's been very hard to meet people with the exception of saying hello to neighbours. I personally feel my life is still in Glasgow and spend all my free time driving down to see friends (outside!) I guess it depends how happy you are in your own company, and do you see your life totally relocating, or will you be traveling to see existing friends every chance you get? by la85 (Mon 19th Apr 2021 5:01pm)
  • Yep Aldi! Best apples ever. by la85 (Tue 4th May 2021 1:59pm)
  • The Scottish Honky Tonk in Ardbeg is a cracking pub. Americana themed and totally surreal. They also have a family friend diner next door that does American style food. https://www.scottish-honky-tonk.co.uk I hear there’s a new trendy cafe in Port Bannatyne too, as well as a gin bar in Rothesay. Have a great time. Just love Bute! by la85 (Thu 27th May 2021 7:23am)

  • Curlach on Victoria Road is a curly hair specialist and do nice haircuts. I’ve got a friend who goes and she has great hair. It’s on the south side but the 6, 4 and 4a buses all go from the west end right past it x https://www.instagram.com/curlach/?hl=en by la85 (Wed 2nd Feb 2022 5:54pm)
  • This sounds like the 4A … fucking abysmal by la85 (Fri 20th May 2022 12:08am)
  • Twice yesterday in Newlands Park I had dogs come up to my blanket and eat food lying out where I was sitting with my 9 month old daughter. The first owner just called them over when they finally noticed with no apology while the second did offer a halfhearted apology. I wouldn’t bother saying anything because people are so entitled when it comes to their dogs, but letting any animal that near a baby is totally unacceptable. I find myself really disliking dogs more and more these days when in reality it’s the owners I have the issue with. by la85 (Tue 21st Jun 2022 2:46pm)
  • Last time I ordered a GlasGo cab the driver pretended I wasn’t at the venue despite the fact I was waiting outside and saw him arrive. The second I got in the cab I got a text saying the hire was cancelled then he said he’d only take me up the road for double the fare. Oh and then I got charged a fiver for a no show 🤷🏼‍♀️ by la85 (Tue 3rd Jan 2023 10:27am)
  • There’s considerably less Roma in the area since Govanhill has been gentrified and I’ve noticed the state of the neighbourhood get worse, especially regarding graffiti. by la85 (Wed 11th Jan 2023 8:28am)

  • Even the litter around the perimeter of Silverburn is unreal. Especially at the end with McDonalds and Five Guys. They should be obliged to keep it clean. by la85 (Sun 5th Mar 2023 6:09pm)
  • Yep, it’s the broken window theory. The council show they don’t care, and it gives the signal to everyone else they don’t have to. by la85 (Sun 5th Mar 2023 6:08pm)
  • Im always complaining about litter where we are in the suburbs, but got the bus into town for the first time in years and the litter around Pollokshaws Road and down to Bridge Street was like an actual waste land. It’s horrendous. by la85 (Sun 5th Mar 2023 6:06pm)
  • I agree, but there’s no anti litter campaign or penalties from the council either by la85 (Sun 5th Mar 2023 7:10pm)
  • Managed to get an earlier train so was there in plenty of time. Hilarious show! by la85 (Sat 18th Mar 2023 3:38am)

  • Had a spectacular new low with First Bus last night, was stood two metres away from the Bus Stop post and stuck my hand out when the bus came. The driver just drove past shaking his head before pulling in and telling me off for flagging him down wrong and not paying enough attention. Absolute tosser. by la85 (Wed 5th Apr 2023 2:42pm)

  • Before I had children I was a member of a rowing club called Clyde Arc. Unlike the other clubs, it's not associated with a uni and it welcomes beginners. The session are quite lengthy but it's such great fun it flies by, and it gets you in great shape. by la85 (Tue 8th Aug 2023 1:25pm)
  • Wow thanks for that. Anglian quoted £2400 and ‘discounted’ it to £1600. Think I’ll sack that! by la85 (Mon 28th Aug 2023 7:13pm)
  • You should check [this stuff](https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/irwins-irish-sliced-white-plain-batch-bread-800g) out. It's like normal sized bread that tastes like a plain loaf. It's amazing. by la85 (Mon 18th Sep 2023 4:20pm)
  • Boswell had the best beer garden and it was a hidden gem. Shame it was knocked down for those rank flats now in its place. by la85 (Wed 20th Sep 2023 11:43am)
  • And before it was Agenda it was the Alphabet Yard which IIRC had great wrought iron steel letters perched on the top of the building. Shawlands in the 00s I felt was always very G1 / Ashton Lane vibes which was populated by folk on marching powder. No one really wanted to hang out on the south side till much later. by la85 (Wed 20th Sep 2023 11:41am)
  • Probably Irwin’s Irish Batch as they sell it in Asda and it’s dynamite by la85 (Wed 20th Sep 2023 1:38pm)
