  • I was sat at the bar at Waxy's watching on my phone for a while earlier, had a few folk come up and ask what was happening. It all inevitably devolved into commiserations before I got the last train home. Would have definitely went to slouch if I'd seen this earlier. Currently necking whisky in bed. by lemon_cake_or_death (Fri 13th Dec 2019 1:07am)
  • Nothing wrong with that. The best quality juniper comes from the Mediterranean coast. Most gins use juniper from Italy or Macedonia. by lemon_cake_or_death (Sat 28th Dec 2019 11:41am)
  • Maclean was intially made in Battlefield but it's moved to Stathaven. They don't actually distill anything though, they just buy a distilled spirit and flavour it. Illicit Gin, Crossbill, Makar and GlasWeGin are all distilled in Glasgow (although GlasWeGin doesn't have its own distillery either, it's made under contract by the Illicit Distillery). by lemon_cake_or_death (Sat 28th Dec 2019 11:57am)

  • My sleep pattern is fucked. Woke up at half nine last night after falling asleep on the couch at five-ish. Dunno whether to try to stay awake for 24 hours to try and put it right or just embrace the fact that I've no real reason to keep to a schedule at the moment and just go to bed in the middle of the day. Right now though, I'm off to Tesco to see if I can get any pasta. by lemon_cake_or_death (Sat 4th Apr 2020 7:26am)
  • Crescent Road up behind the shopping centre. It's about halfway between Garscadden and Scotstounhill stations. by lemon_cake_or_death (Tue 26th May 2020 7:31am)
  • I'd head down Jamaica Street, as soon as you're on the bridge it's bike lanes pretty much the whole way. Head through Tradeston down to Scotland Street and Shields Road, onto St Andrews Drive. by lemon_cake_or_death (Tue 26th May 2020 7:15pm)

  • I get 5G with Vodafone in the city centre and most of the west end. It starts getting spotty once you get past Crow Road though. I stay in Knightswood and it sometimes picks up the 5G signal out here but it's very patchy. by lemon_cake_or_death (Fri 5th Jun 2020 2:35pm)

  • The 24 hour news cycle is part of the problem. The quicker somebody puts out a story the more clicks they get and the ad revenue drives them more than putting out an accurate story. If that stabbing happened 20 years ago you'd not hear about it until the 9 o'clock news when it would be more clear what had actually happened. Now we get a dozen conflicting unverified stories inside the first couple of hours. by lemon_cake_or_death (Sat 27th Jun 2020 12:49pm)
  • I used to get deliveries from [Grow Wild](http://www.growwild.co.uk) and they were great. I don’t know how they compare price-wise now as I haven't used them for a few years but the produce was always good quality. They were really good with specific requests as well. by lemon_cake_or_death (Wed 1st Jul 2020 10:19am)
  • I got [these Adidas ones](https://www.adidas.co.uk/face-covers-m-l-3-pack/H08836.html). They're sold out right now but you can put in your email address and they'll let you know when they're back in stock. They were out of stock when I first found them on the site (I was buying some other gear) but they came back in after about a week. Took another week to deliver. They're more comfortable than the disposable ones I was using before and they're still perfect after going through the wash. The missus has gotten some from https://www.mrsbowtie.com with funky designs on them and they're quality. They're a lot thicker than the Adidas ones which is probably better but they're not machine washable. by lemon_cake_or_death (Thu 2nd Jul 2020 1:47pm)
  • That's fair enough if you actually plan on using them, but if you're not going to use a booking mind and cancel it as soon as you can. It's an absolute shitebag move not to. by lemon_cake_or_death (Fri 3rd Jul 2020 12:40pm)

  • I like Okome on Byres Road and Temaki on Hope Street. Okome has set meals that are really good value and they get bonus points for stocking Pocari Sweat. by lemon_cake_or_death (Sat 15th Aug 2020 1:08pm)
  • Haha, I actually knew that ginger guy. Used to see him around the Solid Rock Cafe all the time. Him and his pals were absolute bams. They all had matching tattoos saying 'GATZ' (goths and thugz). Wee neds who probably liked the shock value of the metal scene at the time more than the music. by lemon_cake_or_death (Tue 22nd Sep 2020 11:13pm)
  • That's me got the virus. Feel fine apart from a scratchy throat, but I'm so grateful that I live here and not in my native England. I only woke up with symptoms yesterday morning, had a test at 3:30 in the afternoon and got my result by text at 7am today. My mum, who is a teacher in County Durham, needed a test a few weeks ago. Thankfully when she did get one it came back negative, but it took four days from her phoning 111 to get a test and she's a bloody key worker. I got a test four hours after phoning and could have had one even sooner if I drove. by lemon_cake_or_death (Mon 5th Oct 2020 9:47am)
  • The scratchy throat is making me cough and I'm also displaying slight shortness of breath. Someone I work with tested positive on Tuesday. I hadn't seen them since last Sunday and track & trace didn't contact me, but we work in a restaurant and even just with the mild symptoms I've I thought it was important to get checked. I thought it was pretty crazy that they hadn't gotten in touch with anyone at the restaurant when someone started displaying symptoms two days after their last shift, but we're now asking everyone who works there to get tested even before T&T have called me. Obviously taking every precaution in work but that's two of us contracted it inside of a week so I really want them to be taking it seriously. I'd been in work on Friday and Saturday so I'd been in fairly close contract with a lot of people. by lemon_cake_or_death (Mon 5th Oct 2020 12:11pm)
  • Two of my colleagues got tests on the same day earlier this week (one positive, one negative) as well. Maybe we did just get lucky with the timing. I know someone from Pollok who was asked to go to Newton Mearns for a test even after saying they couldn't drive which is shite but I only had to walk from Jordanhill to the Riverside Museum. by lemon_cake_or_death (Mon 5th Oct 2020 12:15pm)
  • The 10pm curfew for pubs is resulting in packed trains and massive taxi queues with no social distancing. It's completely counterproductive. by lemon_cake_or_death (Mon 5th Oct 2020 1:00pm)
  • A lot of those drunk people are pouring into trains at the same time as each other. I went into Central Station just after 10pm on Friday (I'd just finished work) and walked right back out and walked home instead, it looked like rush hour in there. There's no way everybody could observe distancing rules on the trains. by lemon_cake_or_death (Mon 5th Oct 2020 1:30pm)
  • DELETED I've never had anyone check my card on the way into one of these screenings, you just need to use your card when you're booking the ticket. Not that it matters now, nobody took it anyway. by lemon_cake_or_death (Mon 5th Oct 2020 7:29pm)
  • A friend of mine got a housing association flat while she was living with me temporarily after a breakup meant she had to leave her flat. If she tells them she's just crashing on your couch for a month or whatever then she's still classed as homeless. by lemon_cake_or_death (Wed 4th Nov 2020 1:02pm)
  • DELETED I'm a bit late seeing this, did you get one? If not, West End Garden Centre has either plastic or metal ones. It's in the back of the cricket ground on Peel Street in Partick. by lemon_cake_or_death (Tue 8th Dec 2020 7:16pm)

  • The couple that run the garden centre own a plant nursery up in Carbeth that supplies other garden centres as well, they can usually get other stuff in to order with a bit of notice. They're building a proper shop in the cricket ground just now as well so they'll be stocking a lot more indoors plants once that's up and running. by lemon_cake_or_death (Wed 21st Jul 2021 2:13pm)

  • The impact would be a lot of people starving and food prices skyrocketing because we can't produce enough domestically to meet demand. We only grow 20% of the food we eat. by lemon_cake_or_death (Thu 4th Nov 2021 11:48am)

I'm late 30s and I like to read a book over a couple of beers after work, this place is perfect for it.
