  • Not understanding Neds actually means you do belong here. Their behaviour makes no sense to anyone. They are probably just showing off. One guy is showing off to one of the girls in the group this happens to loads of people in Glasgow and I think/hope it was not a race specific thing. Have you reported the incident to the police? They might not be able to find who did it but it will mean they will know where these incidents are taking place. by madeupname56 (Thu 30th Jul 2020 10:00am)
  • Daily deaths have, on average, have been flat... turns out if you test more people the amount of positive tests coming back goes up. Miscalculated political points scoring here I think. by madeupname56 (Tue 1st Sep 2020 6:50pm)
  • That only works assuming the sample size covers the full population. There were not enough tests at the start of the pandemic and so the peak real (absolute or proportional) +ive tests would not have been captured. Trump was right, but it’s the wrong way of thinking about it. (That’s why it was so funny) by madeupname56 (Tue 1st Sep 2020 7:43pm)
  • Lmao people on this thread need to chill out. You hate British nationalism but love Scottish nationalism dafuq brah? Just chill out lads it’s just a plane that’ll make some people happy. by madeupname56 (Wed 16th Sep 2020 8:23pm)
  • This is a comment about a plane but I’ll indulge myself here... All nationalism is bad, Scottish no different and ways worse that the one you are in opposition to. You didn’t mean to but you’ve nailed it above... Scottish nationalism used to be about what we have, celebrating the achievements of Scots and our place in the world. You used to be able to have a conversation about politics or anything in Scotland, most of all in this city. To me and the most centralists it still is about celebrating what we have done and can do however now the mainstream Scottish nationalism, sadly is all about hate and constant opposition to England. It’s ruined this country - turned us into “them and us” thinking partisan idiots (I mean read this comment I’m writing now it’s cringe) Imagine how you feel about Brexit; frustration at people ignoring the consensus view of economists, voters filled with hatred toward people the have never met. Blaming people for all the issues in the world. Then you’ll understand on a smaller scale why people oppose nationalistic views. That plane was flown by The Scots, Welsh, English, Irish, Polish, Free French and many other people from around in defence of all the free people of the world... if you want to celebrate that then cool, if not chill out. by madeupname56 (Thu 17th Sep 2020 8:55am)

  • 100% agree, I felt like a weirdo and it bothered me so much I started just sweeping up the street near me. I noticed a few other neighbours doing it now so feel less like a creep. Think I’m driving the GF insane with my rants about it. by madeupname56 (Sat 9th Jan 2021 11:46am)
  • It’s so cheap a lot of bakers will give you it for nothing. I used to get some from a wee Turkish baker near me, I offered to pay but they said not to worry - I just used to buy some stuff in return. by madeupname56 (Sat 9th Jan 2021 5:37pm)
  • Exact same dilemma as you - We had a quote the other day £3.8k. You might be better off replacing it with a gas stove fire, it’ll be cheaper than the full replacement and it’s a bit cleaner than burning wood in the city. We were on the fence but think we are going gas, if that helps... by madeupname56 (Sat 16th Jan 2021 9:59am)

  • 1. Don’t know I’m from here so it’s hard to compare sorry. 2. Rains less in London and it’s a bit warmer. It’s probably marginal if you are from a warmer climate. Our summer days are longer but winter days shorter. 3. London and Edinburgh have a lot of chain places, so on the surface more choice. But provided you know where to look the food scene here is better than both and far more affordable. 4. I was more worried about this stuff in London, depends on where you live. I think there is a FAQ guide to areas on this sub, I think you’ll find you probs afford a better area here but I don’t know. You can good stats on this using “up my street” Good luck - I moved back here relatively quickly but visit London a lot and love it. Both are really good. by madeupname56 (Wed 1st Sep 2021 8:19pm)
  • Some areas randomly get it, some don’t. If you go on the website you can sometimes apply. I live in a house and can’t get one but I was close by before and could apply for one. See if it is not much you can bag and bin it and they take it, if it’s big stuff we drive to the tip. by madeupname56 (Sun 19th Sep 2021 9:15am)

  • I had a similar issue years ago, try a fan or white noise on your phone; you weirdly tune into that noise and even other noises don’t disturb. If you own the flat you could look at options for the windows. Maybe even just in your bedroom like glazing or even secondary glzing if you don’t want to mess with the nice old ones. by madeupname56 (Fri 1st Oct 2021 9:46am)

  • Yeah sorry that wasn’t clear it’s the charge place scotland card I’m referring to. You plug into your car. Tap the screen with the card then plug the charger in. The exact frustration you are describing was me pre card. Still far from perfect but hope it helps. Charge place scotland also have a decent helpline if there is ever bother. by madeupname56 (Mon 29th Nov 2021 10:18pm)

  • Short term drop - 5 years but they would normalise after that. Likelihood is supply will increase as people move depending on job etc and sell. Demand will be lower given the reduced investment owed to uncertainty of the new economy. FYI don’t want independence but I don’t think house prices would be impacted mid/long run. by madeupname56 (Wed 15th Dec 2021 11:13pm)

  • If you cannot hold the Scottish Government accountable for this then you are condemning this to happen. The Tories deserve to be criticised for their time in government but this is a devolved issue. The propaganda line that’s fed relating to funding is just to distract from the failings of the national government in Scotland, it’s the ultimate get out of jail free card. People bashing GPs - GPs have guidelines that help triage referrals, however the other specialties receiving these have been pushing back on these referrals based on advice they received relating to covid from the Scottish Government. GPs get 10mins to diagnose/triage/prescribe/treat/refer and so naturally being able to do this over the phone makes it quicker. If a patient needs to be seen they are, personally this has worked for me better post pandemic as I can call at work. NHS Scotlands move to centralising vaccinations has taken pressure off GPs and in my view has shielded primary and secondary care as a result. However the failings in this article rest solely on Scottish Government/Health service. It scares the shit out of me that people are unable to criticise anyone from their side of the political spectrum. Divide us up then we argue with each other and ignore them, they have nailed it. by madeupname56 (Thu 17th Feb 2022 7:20am)
  • Nah well said, look I voted the other way but I hear you. Why are we being forced into camps? Can I not pick and chose the best elements of all and make a decision on that basis? It just defaces the person on the other side of the debate when they are just like me with a differing opinion. by madeupname56 (Thu 17th Feb 2022 11:26am)

  • 100% - Manchester has spend a few years building their permanent city centre population up. Glasgow has started to do this so fingers crossed this would help if that stretchy succeeds. Can we not just make east ren and east Dum part of greater Glasgow so the city shares tax revenue and expenditure appropriately? Would solve issue like the one you are chatting about. by madeupname56 (Sun 18th Dec 2022 9:42am)

  • For all round experience I’d say Glasgow if it’s 8 months abroad. If you want to go and have a solid 8months focused on your education - Strathclyde. In terms of metrics etc and facilities it’s better. It’s campus is in the middle of the city which has amazing architecture, bars, restaurants and feel to it but not as much of the student feel the west of the city has. Glasgow is not far behind in terms of facilities etc but the name is more respected which will matter more when you graduate. It’s more social, in the west end and has more of a traditional campus. Both are great though, you can’t really make a bad choice so don’t worry. Enjoy your year away and hope you enjoy it here. by madeupname56 (Sat 28th Jan 2023 6:50am)
