  • What ia the deal with them? by mr_aives (Sun 30th May 2021 12:39pm)
  • Hey, I am already an experienced developer with almost 5 years working at a big company and I was thinking about doing a masters degree in Glasgow (will be moving there soon) to get more in depth knowledge of specific topics related to software architecture. But looking at all the replies and at the master programes, it doesn't look like I would actually benefit much. What is your take on pursuing such a degree if you are already a rather seasoned developer? by mr_aives (Thu 17th Jun 2021 3:55am)
  • Hmm sounds interesting by mr_aives (Fri 18th Jun 2021 2:26pm)
  • I am also very interested on this because I will soon (hopefully) be moving to Glasgow alone and I don't know anyone there by mr_aives (Fri 18th Jun 2021 2:40pm)
  • Sure, sounds like a good idea; I still don't have an exact date but should still be some two months by mr_aives (Sun 20th Jun 2021 2:49am)
  • Enjoy free live music lol On a serious note, though, aren't there any "silence" or anti disturbance laws regarding at what times one can be noisy? I would look into that by mr_aives (Sun 27th Jun 2021 12:58pm)
  • What ia this hawk man? Couldn't find in the comments by mr_aives (Wed 30th Jun 2021 2:44pm)

  • Orange walk but they are wearing blue lol by mr_aives (Thu 1st Jul 2021 8:28pm)
  • What kind of interactions? Could you, please, provide an example? I am asking because I am not from Glasgow but may move there soon by mr_aives (Thu 1st Jul 2021 10:58pm)
  • That is a worrying side of Glasgow that I hadn't heard about yet. What do you mean by these bams? People just randomly talking shit or stalking you? Trying to steal from you? Or just wasted people laying around? I ask because I don't currently live in Glasgow but might move there soon. by mr_aives (Thu 1st Jul 2021 10:56pm)
  • Hmm, so not necessarily criminals, but more of a generic troublemaker, right? I am fine with a few hooligans doing their stuff, but people who are addicted to their bones trying to get whatever they can out of you by gun point is a bit scary to me by mr_aives (Thu 1st Jul 2021 11:02pm)
  • Great, thanks for the explanation by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 1:43pm)
  • Cool, thanks. I hope I can get a decent apartment for that price on a place not too far away (some 20 mins by bus or train) from Blythswood Hill area, where I will be working. by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 3:39pm)
  • Good to know. That is not my monthly take home pay btw, but rather the budget I am setting for monthly living expenses. by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 3:41pm)
  • Nice! It seems like you are able to get away easily with 1000 of monthly expenses. Btw how is this Crosshill region to live? It seems like it is within a good distance from where I'll be working at by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 3:49pm)
  • Hmm which kind of fees would those be? by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 4:13pm)
  • Nice! Seems like the region is well connected, so I won't have much trouble getting there by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 4:13pm)
  • Thanks, I will bookmark your comment for when I do apartment hunting by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 4:17pm)
  • One of top 10 in the world? Damn, I will definitely try to get something there by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 4:34pm)

  • Close enough is good enough :D by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 5:00pm)
  • Nice, you can get away with a much smaller budget. Btw isn't Paisley outside Glasgow? by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 5:00pm)
  • And you are fine with that budget, right? It is not something that constricts or curtails your lifestyle, right? by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 5:33pm)
  • Thank you mate! (Gotta get used to the word mate lol) by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 6:26pm)
  • Those are super markets, I presume? by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 6:25pm)
  • Cool, thanks by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 7:21pm)
  • Nice, I'll an eye on those, thx by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 8:24pm)
  • Good point. Is Glasgow bike friendly? I am not a great biker, so unless there as specific bike lines or pathways, I am not taking my chances competing against the cars lol by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 8:26pm)
  • Thank you man by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 10:37pm)
  • Thank you bro! Actually the same I currently have, software engineer by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 10:35pm)
  • Cool! Good to know that I can get a flat for that price by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 10:35pm)
  • Thx for the heads up Btw r/usernamechecksout by mr_aives (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 11:43pm)
  • Lol really? So it doesn't really hurt to be a bit further away from the city center by mr_aives (Sat 3rd Jul 2021 12:29am)
  • That is an interesting thought. Yes, I know Brazil is bigger both in territory and population, but I hadn't stop to think that you could go to the other side of the country in 1h. I can't go from one side of São Paulo to the other in 1h lol by mr_aives (Sat 3rd Jul 2021 1:14am)
  • Thanks by mr_aives (Sat 3rd Jul 2021 12:28pm)
  • Thanks for the tip, pal (just learned you guys often use this word). Yeah I am aware that there is a rather strong Scottish accent. During some interviews I had a little bit of trouble understanding what people were saying, but no major issues. But I reckon that we were speaking on a business environment, so I should brace myself to understand the average Scot on day to day interactions. by mr_aives (Sat 3rd Jul 2021 12:26pm)
  • Yep, even though I am not great at it, I can definitely cook. But is your budget 1k for each person or for both? by mr_aives (Sat 3rd Jul 2021 12:30pm)
  • I see. If you manage to do well with 1k for to people then I should be fine. Btw how is the neighborhood you currently live in? by mr_aives (Sat 3rd Jul 2021 12:40pm)
  • Hmm, that's an interesting idea. Do you think I can get it fully furnished with kitchen appliances like refrigerator and stove for 1k? I intend to stay for at least one year, but more likely two and maybe even three, so furnishing it myself might be a good idea indeed. Also, how easy is it to sell that furniture after those few years of use? I will probably move to another country after my time in Glasgow and I guess it would be rather painful to take it with me. by mr_aives (Sat 3rd Jul 2021 12:54pm)
  • Gotta figure out the same thing once I move to Glasgow lol by mr_aives (Sat 3rd Jul 2021 5:10pm)
  • Cool, thanks! If that is the case then I should probably rent unfurnished. The only things I really need are a bed, wardrobe, a desk and a chair to work (would hardly find a flat with those two anyways), a table with some chairs to eat at, and *maybe* some drawers, a couch and a tv by mr_aives (Sat 3rd Jul 2021 8:01pm)
  • Are you from Paisley? I have seen this name in a few other replies by mr_aives (Sat 3rd Jul 2021 8:21pm)
  • That sounds really nice, unfortunately I will only be moving to Glasgow in some two months from now. But I will gollow you in case you make another event :) by mr_aives (Tue 6th Jul 2021 2:08am)
  • 1500 for replacing a shower? Damn, gonna change my profession, lol by mr_aives (Tue 6th Jul 2021 5:14pm)
  • How long does that trip take? by mr_aives (Tue 20th Jul 2021 2:10am)
  • What do you consider to be a good limit of up to where to go north? by mr_aives (Wed 21st Jul 2021 9:40pm)
  • Really? From what I can see on the map, that is pretty much city center by mr_aives (Wed 21st Jul 2021 10:53pm)
  • Alright, noted by mr_aives (Thu 22nd Jul 2021 1:25am)
  • Where are you coming from? by mr_aives (Tue 3rd Aug 2021 3:33am)

  • Dang! It has been five years now! I hadn't realized it's been that long by mr_aives (Mon 9th Aug 2021 2:39pm)
  • Great map man, thanks. Do you recommend living south of the river? I saw some people saying to stay north of it but I am not sure if they had a particular reason for that by mr_aives (Thu 12th Aug 2021 1:40am)
  • Ty by mr_aives (Thu 12th Aug 2021 4:28am)

  • Hmm, my quarantine should be over by mid October, so maybe I won't be so affected by mr_aives (Mon 27th Sep 2021 1:36am)
  • Nah, that is not possible, I am traveling in the next few days. They are going to give me some money for miscellaneous expenses, which I intend to use for short term rental by mr_aives (Mon 27th Sep 2021 1:35am)
  • Hey, how is it going for you at Govanhil? Does it still hold? I am seriously considering moving there by mr_aives (Tue 28th Sep 2021 2:38am)
  • I checked Starling and they do ask for proof of address, but IDK if temporary address would be accepted. I am planning to stay for two weeks, but that can be longer depending on how long it would take to get banking sorted out and get a flat by mr_aives (Mon 4th Oct 2021 11:27am)
  • Hmm I see :/ Thanks by mr_aives (Mon 4th Oct 2021 11:33am)
  • Gonna check it, thanks by mr_aives (Mon 4th Oct 2021 11:32am)
  • Gonna try Monzo, thanks by mr_aives (Mon 4th Oct 2021 11:31am)
  • Well, I do have a passport with visa and I am going to collect my BRP after the quarantine is over, so that wouldn't be a problem. How does one apply to this bank? Is it called "Big Issue"? by mr_aives (Mon 4th Oct 2021 11:31am)
  • Lol nice, I arrived on Friday. Do you get an actual bank account and debit card with Monzo? by mr_aives (Mon 4th Oct 2021 11:38am)
  • I did but they also ask for a phone number from the Commonwealth or the EU to proceed, which I don't have yet, but I ordered a SIM online, so hopefully I can try again on Wednesday by mr_aives (Mon 4th Oct 2021 11:41am)
  • Okay, gonna give it a try. Thanks by mr_aives (Mon 4th Oct 2021 12:03pm)
  • I will once I leave quarantine by mr_aives (Mon 4th Oct 2021 12:34pm)
  • Wait, so you can actually rent a flat without owning a bank account in the first place? by mr_aives (Mon 4th Oct 2021 12:33pm)
  • Yes I do. Do you think UK banks would accept it? by mr_aives (Mon 4th Oct 2021 12:36pm)
  • Hmm I see, so it ks not a usual practice by mr_aives (Mon 4th Oct 2021 12:42pm)
  • Really? Can't I use a temporary address? by mr_aives (Mon 4th Oct 2021 1:11pm)
  • Cool man, I'll use it. How hard was it to rent a flat for you? I was only able to book a hotel for 12 days after the quarantine time, so idk if it will be possible to rent a flat by then by mr_aives (Mon 4th Oct 2021 10:27pm)
  • Yeah, I will reach out to some of those organizations tomorrow to see what my options are. Thank you by mr_aives (Tue 5th Oct 2021 7:29pm)
  • And which address did you use for opening your Monzo account? by mr_aives (Tue 5th Oct 2021 7:27pm)
  • Hey bro, I recently moved in and would like to make some friends as well. I am still trying to figure my way in the city, so it would be great to meet people who already know it by mr_aives (Sun 10th Oct 2021 11:51pm)
  • Yeah, but it is only available in Jan, 2022 by mr_aives (Mon 11th Oct 2021 6:04pm)
  • It is, but I can work in a hybrid fashion, with some days from home and some from the office. But I'll need to be going to Glasgow to visit rental properties anyways by mr_aives (Mon 11th Oct 2021 6:05pm)
  • Yep, I am feeling that pain as well by mr_aives (Mon 11th Oct 2021 6:43pm)
  • Thanks, I am already looking at the outskirts and surrounding towns, still it is tough as hell man by mr_aives (Mon 11th Oct 2021 11:09pm)
  • Opa eae man, valeu. Yes, I am already looking not only in Glasgow proper but kn the surrounding towns as well, but it is goddamn hard to get something. And I do have the alerts active but only now I am released from quarantine and able to actually view a property. by mr_aives (Mon 11th Oct 2021 11:08pm)
  • Thanks but both are already in my search radius for the short term and they are both dry :S. I am afraid I'll need to go even further away like Edinburgh, at least during the COP 26 by mr_aives (Mon 11th Oct 2021 11:11pm)
  • Thanks, I am already looking at the outskirts of Glasgow as well by mr_aives (Tue 12th Oct 2021 10:03am)
  • Ideally around 700 pounds, but can go higher if it is worth it. Thanks by mr_aives (Tue 12th Oct 2021 6:50pm)
  • Yeah, the rental market is wild now. Every viewing I go there are 5 or 6 other people at that same viewing slot, so competition is brutal right now by mr_aives (Wed 13th Oct 2021 6:21pm)
  • Yeah, just like a shark skin by mr_aives (Wed 13th Oct 2021 11:36pm)
  • I guess I missed this one by little because I was there around that time (idk exactly at what time) by mr_aives (Thu 21st Oct 2021 7:36pm)
  • That would help a lot. I just moved here and it astonishes me that people will simply throw garbage on the streets and leave garbage inside the trains as if it were a normal thing by mr_aives (Thu 21st Oct 2021 9:34pm)
  • Anyone up for a pint Saturday? by mr_aives (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 12:34pm)
  • I guess I posted on the wrong day of the steamie, but I meant Saturday night (well, now tonight) by mr_aives (Sat 23rd Oct 2021 8:59am)
  • Anyone up for a pint tonight? I am going for one (or three) and some company would be appreciated by mr_aives (Sat 23rd Oct 2021 3:21pm)
  • Hey my friend, I just arrived in Glasgow and am looking for friends here. If you are up to we can have a little chat and maybe a pint. Let me know what you think by mr_aives (Sat 23rd Oct 2021 8:18pm)
  • Hey my friend, I just arrived in Glasgow and am looking for friends here. If you are up to we can have a little chat and maybe a pint. Let me know what you think by mr_aives (Sat 23rd Oct 2021 8:17pm)
  • Software development is a good career path where you can learn most stuff online and some companies don't even ask for a degree anymore. That being said there is still good value in the knowledge acquired through the academic courses. by mr_aives (Sun 24th Oct 2021 8:02am)
  • Yes, I did manage. Had to go outside the city, though, in Kilmarnock by mr_aives (Sun 24th Oct 2021 9:41am)
  • So you probably know it very well. Anything in specific that I should know about it? I know it is quite a small town, but has rail and bus connection to Glasgow and a rather decent infrastructure so for now I am happy here. by mr_aives (Sun 24th Oct 2021 6:05pm)
  • Well, when I arrived here from Brazil earlier this month they did check all my covid stuff and I had to do mandatory quarantine. Maybe they relaxed restrictions after removing most countries from red list by mr_aives (Mon 25th Oct 2021 9:20am)
  • I only hope you die rich by mr_aives (Mon 25th Oct 2021 1:42pm)
  • I kinda feel his pain. I arrived in Glasgow at Oct, 1st and could not get anything in Glasgow or the outskirts for a humanly payable price. Luckily I found something at a town a bit further away. Gosh all these bloodleeches profiteering from COP26 make me sick by mr_aives (Mon 25th Oct 2021 1:45pm)
  • I thought it was cool until I saw that message at the front of the plinth. All those social trend messages together there makes me feel like they don't really care about any of them by mr_aives (Mon 25th Oct 2021 9:11pm)
  • I don't think there are any kids in my flat building, but this bonfire night stuff sounds interesting, I will look it up. Thanks by mr_aives (Tue 26th Oct 2021 4:07pm)
  • Well, I am actually living in Kilmarnock, but I work in the center of Glasgow. Do you know of any pubs that have a nice Halloween night or something? by mr_aives (Tue 26th Oct 2021 4:09pm)
  • That sounds interesting, but since I am new to Scotland I would rather stick to Glasgow for now by mr_aives (Tue 26th Oct 2021 4:46pm)
  • That seems to be fun. Are you going? by mr_aives (Tue 26th Oct 2021 11:37pm)
  • Hehe msg me if you end up going. I think I'll be there by mr_aives (Wed 27th Oct 2021 8:30am)
  • At least The Onion is funny by mr_aives (Sat 30th Oct 2021 5:03pm)
  • I mean, it's Halloween, so I don't see the issue with that by mr_aives (Sat 30th Oct 2021 7:16pm)
  • Oh, I see now by mr_aives (Sun 31st Oct 2021 9:38am)
  • What does sesh mean? by mr_aives (Tue 2nd Nov 2021 8:54am)
  • Thx by mr_aives (Tue 2nd Nov 2021 3:38pm)
  • Yo wtf there is more police than protesters by mr_aives (Wed 3rd Nov 2021 10:25pm)
  • Can you not take everything literally? And honestly if you consider only those inside the square, mayve there actually are more police than protesters by mr_aives (Thu 4th Nov 2021 3:07pm)
  • And I am guessing he does the talking for you by mr_aives (Mon 8th Nov 2021 12:45am)
  • Thanks, this ia very useful! by mr_aives (Fri 12th Nov 2021 12:47am)
  • Where can I learn more about that? by mr_aives (Mon 15th Nov 2021 3:11pm)
  • Apologies to OP for highjacking her post, but hey man, I am a 24yo man looking for friends here as well. Let me know if you are interested in going for a pint or a cuppa one of these days by mr_aives (Mon 15th Nov 2021 3:16pm)
  • Lmfao by mr_aives (Tue 16th Nov 2021 9:47pm)
  • My advice is what I did myself: I got out of Glasgow. There are several small towns around Glasgow that aren't too bad and you can easily commute. I came all the way to Kilmarnock because I needed something right before COP26, but simce the event has now passed, I don't think you need to come this far away by mr_aives (Tue 16th Nov 2021 10:07pm)
  • Tried Zara as well btw by mr_aives (Wed 17th Nov 2021 8:13pm)
  • Hmm I don't think so, I went to slater men's wear by mr_aives (Wed 17th Nov 2021 8:24pm)

  • I tried the Mark and Spencer at the Buchanan's Galery as well by mr_aives (Wed 17th Nov 2021 8:25pm)
  • Where is that? Never heard about this shop by mr_aives (Wed 17th Nov 2021 9:14pm)
  • Yeah I saw this website but idk if they are trustworthy. Have you ever shopped with them? by mr_aives (Wed 17th Nov 2021 9:14pm)
  • Hmm I guess I confused the names then. I went to that huge multi store department store in the Buchanan Galery by mr_aives (Wed 17th Nov 2021 9:12pm)
  • Where are those, are they physical or online? by mr_aives (Wed 17th Nov 2021 9:11pm)
  • Oh I see, thanks by mr_aives (Wed 17th Nov 2021 9:18pm)
  • Oh I've been there yesterday but they didn't have any on that style by mr_aives (Wed 17th Nov 2021 9:20pm)
  • I am sorry, but what does that mean? by mr_aives (Wed 17th Nov 2021 9:30pm)
  • Oh boi that's a pricey one hehe. I am okay with paying a few hundred but a couple grand is too much for a coat lol. I checked cruise and they have a nice model from Boss but not on my size :( by mr_aives (Wed 17th Nov 2021 9:40pm)
  • Exactly! by mr_aives (Wed 17th Nov 2021 10:25pm)
  • Lmfao by mr_aives (Wed 17th Nov 2021 10:25pm)

  • Gonna look for it on the weekend, thanks! by mr_aives (Wed 17th Nov 2021 11:59pm)
  • Great findings, thanks! Btw do you know if these sites are reliable? I mean if it is easy to get a replacement in case in doesn't fit well, etc by mr_aives (Wed 17th Nov 2021 11:57pm)
  • Oh I haven't been to that one, gonna give it a try on the weekend. Thanks by mr_aives (Thu 18th Nov 2021 12:19am)
  • Sounds like an ideal place to me haha. Even if they don't have such a coat they might have other interesting stuff by mr_aives (Thu 18th Nov 2021 12:23am)
  • Someone else also recommend it, so I am definitely going to try. Thanks by mr_aives (Thu 18th Nov 2021 8:27am)

  • Hmm I went to the House of Fraser yesterday but didn't find any. The staff even said they didn't have it by mr_aives (Thu 18th Nov 2021 10:02am)
  • Hey, that looks interesting! I think I'll attend as well by mr_aives (Thu 18th Nov 2021 12:08pm)
  • No, thanks by mr_aives (Thu 18th Nov 2021 12:05pm)

  • No, there is a bus stop in Auchinlek which is less than 15 mins walking from the entrance by mr_aives (Sun 21st Nov 2021 10:38am)
  • Not that much tbh. There is a bus stop in Auchinlek which is less than 15 mins walk from the entrance. From the entrance to the woods is a bit of a walk but I don't think you can go through that path by car anyways by mr_aives (Sun 21st Nov 2021 10:37am)
  • I've been there just yesterday and I second it; just don't know if it would be something that I would do every single day, but it was definitely peaceful by mr_aives (Sun 21st Nov 2021 10:35am)
  • Are you from Auchinlek? I didn't really walk around town too much, just got off the bus and went to the estate by mr_aives (Sun 21st Nov 2021 10:46am)
  • Ah I see. I've also been to Cumnock yesterday, it was a nice wee town. The only problem is that there was only one sit in restaurant open, all the others were take away. I wanted to eat some British food, but this was an Indian restaurant. Since I hadn't had lunch I went to it anyways and do not regret, food was great and the staff very friendly, even though they were a bit overwhelmed with all the delivery and take away orders. I think it is called Masala, you probably know it since you live there, but if you don't, I recommend it by mr_aives (Sun 21st Nov 2021 11:01am)

  • Yeah I know your pain. Moved here from Brazil a year ago and it was bloody difficult to understand what people were saying. Watching Still game and talking to random cunts was fundamental in the beginning. After that getting into the dating scene wasn't too bad. To be honest most the girls I met didn't have a very strong accent, except for one that I actually dated for a while, which helped a lot, of course. The ultimate challenge, though, is to understand what the bloody hell is the bus driver saying. After one year here I still haven't mastered this art. by mr_aives (Wed 2nd Nov 2022 1:10pm)
