  • I have never seen so many downvoted comments on a post from different people and also so many “minuses” on comments. by othermorgan (Fri 26th Jun 2020 3:47pm)
  • No, I know tons of people who feel like you. I'm 50/50 but think a bit of both is a nice balance by othermorgan (Wed 15th Jul 2020 12:44am)
  • Same - I remember plenty drunk old men singing. You weren’t scared of them, they weren’t pervy, they just .. were. Where have they all gone?? by othermorgan (Thu 13th Aug 2020 3:17pm)
  • So much blood! When I was 12 in the 80’s - been big news “on the street” was a drug dealer who had been stabbed anally up a close. Think he had grassed someone. Plenty more stories too like that, but we took it all on stride. by othermorgan (Thu 13th Aug 2020 3:21pm)

  • Here’s one for you. As a teen girl in the 80s in Govan, there were a few very scary (young boys) who would terrorise the neighbourhood There was Jamma (one name like ) he was the top dog. Then there was the up and coming Jojo McGrillan. It would be a hot summer afternoon, kids playing quietly outside their front doors then the streets would scatter as the word spread "Jamma's coming" or whoever it may be. My mum used to laugh at my brother and his friend, running in the house for dear life. Us girls didn't bother so much, it was the boys who were more at risk of being punched just for breathing. Having said that I did once get punched in the face by a wee ned "Stu Broon" and I hit the deck. We'd just been talking but I remember feeling unnerved by him. I was an easy target, I was a little lamb to the slaughter when I first moved to Govan and shocked by the surroundings. Took a long time for me to toughen up and even then, that never completely happened! So, this story is about a guy who scared me more than Jamma and Jojo. His name was Dums and a few years younger than me. He had a scary sister and cousin too who were gorgeous looking girls but ooft, they brazenly knocked on my mums door once and said "Is Othermorgan there? We want to fight her." My dad told them to bolt as I hid upstairs and I was upset as that now only made the situation worse. Still amazed to this day they never beat me up! Anyway, this is about Dums. They all had very dark hair and dark piercing eyes. Those eyes never smiled, still haunted to this day by them. I remember specifically one day, Dums came right up to me. He was a lot smaller than me, but he was right in my face with that glare, then started talking normally like nothing ever happened. Had no idea of the history his wider family and uncle had but funny how as a kid, you get the feeling something is untoward. Fast forward a few years and there's a big commotion in the streets of Govan as a body has been found under the floorboards of one of the old houses (they're lovely) up the road. Body has been cut up and eyes gouged out. Oh and also wrapped up in carpet. Link below. I have never heard of the Raymond Platt guy but on reading about him years ago, he sounds a terrifying character. Especially to do that to someone of Dum's 'status'! Ah, the memories. by othermorgan (Thu 13th Aug 2020 3:59pm)
  • Haha, do you remember the giant telephone? by othermorgan (Thu 13th Aug 2020 5:36pm)
  • Same here - it’s crazy all the things coming back to me! And absolutely, certain bus journeys required helmets and armour! by othermorgan (Thu 13th Aug 2020 5:35pm)
  • Yes, sorry. Typed in a rush by othermorgan (Thu 13th Aug 2020 5:44pm)
  • Oh yeh! Loved the giant telephone as you'd phone your Mum and everyone could hear her gabbing away. Then you'd tell her everyone could hear her as you were on the giant telephone at the Garden Festival. "Oh yi wee monkeys!" she'd shout. Haha by othermorgan (Thu 13th Aug 2020 5:50pm)
  • Aaaah Donald. He always takes the controversial cases eh. I was there that infamous night at the Rangers football club when he was secretly videoed. Works do, so glad I left early! by othermorgan (Thu 13th Aug 2020 5:57pm)

  • It does. We’re not imagining it although it’s more Glasgow than just Scotland. Lived there most of my life. 2012 I got a job in April where I would finish at 3pm Tue-Friday. “Great“ I thought, “I’ll be sitting at Glasgow Green on sunny days then.” Kid you not, from May, July, August there was about 8 gorgeous days to do this. Rain rain rain, was so depressing. Then suddenly and unexpectedly, we moved to Manchester (also known for rain) in September. Fast forward to next summer, and every summer and yes it’s the UK so still rainy. But nowhere has ever rained like Glasgow. Someone did say to me once “well it’s in the valley that’s why” by othermorgan (Thu 27th Aug 2020 5:48pm)

  • Check your bill, if it says economy 7 then yes its cheaper. Ask your provider for times, they change with daylight savings. If you have gas central heating, it doesn't matter when you put your washing on. Years ago, most ppl were on economy 7. Flats can tend to be economy 7 with electric heaters but easy enough for you to find out. by othermorgan (Mon 2nd May 2022 2:30pm)
  • Feel depressed now, left Glasgow to come down to England's shitty water by othermorgan (Thu 25th May 2023 3:53pm)
  • Moved from near Glasgow centre to countryside in Cheshire years ago. When I'm up, I cant believe how littered the countryside is compared to here. Sad. by othermorgan (Sun 4th Jun 2023 1:52pm)

  • Totally agree, been lucky to visit a lot of European cities. Whilst all different there was a definite feeling/vibe that you dont get here. Less of a sophistication maybe? Not as good weather? Although when we do get great weather, especially recently..I do get a hint of that European "laidbackness"..Totally get what OP is saying. by othermorgan (Mon 26th Jun 2023 11:12am)
