  • I always find its absolutely honkin in city centre. Apparently there’s a dark spot for coverage around George sq/GOMA up towards Buchanan galleries/city of Glasgow college. A friend of mine in their contact centre told me. by pR0p3rdose (Fri 30th Apr 2021 3:01pm)
  • DELETED Kam wa is always super solid for me, their salt and chilli tofu slaps. by pR0p3rdose (Sun 2nd May 2021 2:14pm)
  • Would also second panda house! by pR0p3rdose (Sun 2nd May 2021 2:19pm)
  • Thank you! by pR0p3rdose (Tue 15th Jun 2021 4:06pm)
  • Yeah, pretty much down to Maintenence, happy to use grass for things which don’t involve studded boots/balls. As someone who’s grown up and gotten a bit of a conscious from when I was younger and wouldn’t have cared, I’m not really wanting to be the one who ruins a patch of good grass in a park wearing studded boots on it for hours at a time, unless of course it is a grass football pitch rather than public park. I’ve noticed grass pitches in pollok park but I think they’re privately owned/not for public use which is a shame. by pR0p3rdose (Tue 15th Jun 2021 7:08pm)
  • Oh nice, thanks for the heads up. Going to drive around a few places tomorrow, by pR0p3rdose (Tue 15th Jun 2021 8:29pm)
  • I’m sure it would easier whilst riding on your moral high horse as opposed to the people who play on real fur pitches ๐Ÿ˜‚ by pR0p3rdose (Wed 16th Jun 2021 7:23pm)
  • Thanks. Growing up I was pretty spoiled as I lived right across from a grass pitch that was maintained by the council and never used, and then played for teams who had pretty much free reign over pitches/facilities so I guess I kind of always took it for granted. I’ve been around tonight and noticed a few that don’t have locks and it will be on the odd occasion where I want to use goals etc until I’m back fit and comfortable and can find a team to train with. Growing up outside of Glasgow I’m pretty amazed to find the lack of public grass pitches with even just goal frames on it, everything seems to be private/club owned or pay to play. ๐Ÿ˜” by pR0p3rdose (Thu 17th Jun 2021 12:14am)
  • I live just off pollokshaws road and hear it most mornings too, sussed out it a bin lorry. I thought it was like a gate or construction or some mad animal in distress. nope, it’s a bin lorry. I don’t know whether it’s one that picks up the street recycling or whatever. by pR0p3rdose (Sun 27th Jun 2021 11:24am)
  • What area will you be living in? I’d definitely sus out you local public transport links, especially if you’re not going to have a car, and don’t be fooled but it isn’t always lovely sunshine so it’s good to know how to get about without getting soaked. I always have the ScotRail App and first bus so I can plan my journeys. If you’re going to need any IKEA trips and don’t have a car you’ll need the bus for that. Next I think it’s good to just take a day or two to walk your local area and figure out what it’s like, and hopefully find a pub that suits you as I found that’s a great way to meet people, even though I don’t drink. Most people are super friendly so if you’re ever stuck or lost or needing directions you’ll find most strangers willing to help. If you’re looking for any specific advice feel free to PM! ๐Ÿ˜‡ and welcome. by pR0p3rdose (Tue 29th Jun 2021 10:45pm)
  • I’ve noticed it in strathbungo, roughly from Brodie’s on pollokshaws road down to Allison street and across to viky road and up to the Queen’s Park gates is like like dead zone. My Spotify always dies in that area. by pR0p3rdose (Tue 13th Jul 2021 8:39pm)
  • I live close to crossmyloof and it’s fine. Further south I find it fine too, but down near Queen’s Park station is like a black hole and hadn’t always been that way. Glad to know I’m not the only one by pR0p3rdose (Tue 13th Jul 2021 9:20pm)
  • I’ve lived southside for the last 5 years but always take my car to Briggs motors in bishopbriggs. Peter the mechanic is very good and prices are super reasonable, especially if it needs work done etc, and it’s right next to the train station so easy for getting to and from town when dropping off/picking up! by pR0p3rdose (Mon 2nd Aug 2021 12:01am)
  • I always ask cafes for top ups of tap water. Most are fine even if you’re not buying anything by pR0p3rdose (Wed 4th Aug 2021 9:45pm)
  • First bus app is your friend by pR0p3rdose (Sat 14th Aug 2021 3:09pm)
  • Dino in Glasgow grooming company in battlefield is really good. Can book your appointment online too super easy by pR0p3rdose (Sat 18th Sep 2021 12:58pm)
  • If your employer is in the town centre, I’d speak to them about it. I used to work somewhere monitored by horizon and your employer should be able to contact them to get the tickets rescineded/add you to an allow list so you can park there and not worry about it by pR0p3rdose (Mon 8th Nov 2021 8:48pm)
  • Valhallas Goat at Kelvinbridge is not bad. Don’t drink myself but once got my friend some vouchers for here, looked online looks like they still do them. by pR0p3rdose (Sat 20th Nov 2021 1:26pm)
  • Lived in a flat for 5 years, got a really good price for it for 4.5 of them, as when we moved in it wasn’t the best area. But now very desirable. then got a letter from our landlord stating as similar property was going for a lot more they’d up our rent. Packed it in and moved. New tennants moved in and are paying more than double what we were. by pR0p3rdose (Tue 11th Jan 2022 10:23pm)
  • Just want to weigh in here that (I lived in the southside/shawlands) and visited my GP and then had a referral to therapy for the following week. A few weeks of CBT, then a break, then more time on 1 to 1 therapy. Previously used services not in Glasgow which had been terrible but found this really quick and very good by pR0p3rdose (Wed 26th Jan 2022 2:53pm)
  • Kurdish street food on Allison street is undefeated. by pR0p3rdose (Wed 17th Aug 2022 10:52am)
  • My papa worked with an ex navy guy with a glass eye. It fell out at work one time and they all called him “sailor the pop eye man”. by pR0p3rdose (Fri 16th Sep 2022 3:42am)
  • Where abouts do you stay? Lived in shawlands and around this time of year when the air got colder you’d sometimes get the smell of the breweries blowing down, absolutely loved it. Could it be that? by pR0p3rdose (Sun 18th Sep 2022 1:07am)
  • Haven’t been since pre-covid but koelschip yard on the corner of Allison street and pollokshaws road always had hundreds of imported beers, bottled or on tap. Was always a little gem and the tender was super knowledgeable. Very chilled out vibe too. by pR0p3rdose (Sun 18th Sep 2022 1:31am)
  • Kam wa is absolutely dyno. Salt and chilli tofu is absolutely mega! by pR0p3rdose (Fri 17th Mar 2023 11:37am)
  • To be honest, everywhere I’ve lived I’ve always taken my cars to Briggs motors in bishopbriggs. Unless I’ve had main dealer plans. Mechanical stuff or auto electrical. Had an issue with a sensor module on a Citroen I had, main dealer quoted me £4K (damn near the value of the car at that point) to fix it, they fixed it for me for £800. by pR0p3rdose (Fri 7th Apr 2023 10:20am)
  • Many happy returns to you fella! My go to, since you have a car, is always driving down to Maidens beach (about 10/15 minutes past Ayr) parking up and doing one of the trails along the beach and into culzean castle and back. It’s a good 15,000 steps at least and beautiful in all types of weather. It’s peaceful and calming and exactly what I look for a birthday. Can get a coffee to walk around with too. Then a wee stop off for a chippy on the way back. It’s been suggested but the wee hurrie in Troon is pretty special. by pR0p3rdose (Sun 23rd Apr 2023 12:56pm)
  • I’ve mentioned this in an another post here. - drive to maidens beach and walk along the beach and up into culzean castle. I went through a really rough time a few years ago and found myself here a lot, even when it’s busy it’s calm, but on weekdays it’s really chilled out. It has a wonderful energy and the nature trails are a great place to find peace and quiet for a bit of mindfulness. Some history if you want it, some peace and quiet if you want it. Beautiful nature and plenty of places for tea, coffee, lunch. I hope you find what you need from wherever you go. by pR0p3rdose (Sun 23rd Apr 2023 1:05pm)
  • Agreed! I’ve been down once and there was not a beach there, it’s IN but that time it was IN IN. by pR0p3rdose (Mon 24th Apr 2023 6:05pm)
  • Yep. “Fully vaccinated” status so 2 doses for most types of vaccine. by pR0p3rdose (Mon 1st May 2023 1:21pm)
  • There’s really great spots down the back of rouken Glen park too (although after periods of no rain it can sometimes be too shallow to swim fully) but calm enough to have a good swim and even just a splash around. Water isn’t stagnant so algae is never a problem and has parking at it too. You can park at the garden centre and walk round the back of it, if you don’t go on a weekend it’s usually pretty quiet too and with only the occasional other dogs. by pR0p3rdose (Wed 17th May 2023 8:34am)
  • Not sure - I’ve been away from Glasgow for a couple weeks so not sure on rainfall but possibly. by pR0p3rdose (Wed 17th May 2023 1:25pm)
  • I quite often fly out on the first few flights for work (never any hold luggage so cannot speak for check in) but security and the airport in general tends to be very quiet that time in the morning so a breeze to get through with not much waiting. That being said, it might be worth seeing if anything can be done if you’re travelling with elderly people. Also Uber is usually fine. I’m pretty sure you can pre-order one, if not, you should be able to pre book a cab to collect you from where you’re staying. by pR0p3rdose (Wed 14th Jun 2023 4:36pm)
  • I had a Citroen this used to happen all the time, there’s usually a little vent under the windscreen wipers and you can usually pop one off to clear it out. My car sounded like I was driving around in an aquarium. Should be a relatively easy job to do yourself with the help of a YouTube video and a couple tools, no need to have a shop rip you off until you’ve tried yourself. by pR0p3rdose (Wed 19th Jul 2023 10:58pm)
  • Used to live in Troon, you’ll quite often get a couple of them in the harbour there too. by pR0p3rdose (Sun 23rd Jul 2023 10:28am)
  • Used to walk home from the city centre through polllokshields every night between 10pm-midnight most nights for about 3 years and never really had a problem. Only thing to watch out for is people bombing around in cars on some of the streets. Obvz take any precautions you would walking about anywhere else that time of night. by pR0p3rdose (Sun 13th Aug 2023 4:52pm)
  • I sometimes get my ears popping coming up or down the hill at Darnley. I wonder if you’re noticing it more if you’re sinus’ are still recovering from flying? by pR0p3rdose (Mon 28th Aug 2023 10:57pm)
  • Lovely thanks for all the replies everyone! ๐Ÿงก by pR0p3rdose (Mon 4th Sep 2023 10:20am)
  • You’ll be absolutely fine with Apple Pay. It would best to try and get a physical card eventually as ATM’s with NFC compatibility are super rare, so on the odd occasion you need cash it may be hard. But really day to day even for big purchases, Apple Pay’ll be fine. by pR0p3rdose (Mon 4th Sep 2023 5:22pm)
  • Ah nice one mate. I’m not in til mid October (shawlands) but that sounds class if you’re looking for someone to put a couple miles down with, like you, not talking mad miles here come on! I’m down! Pop me a private message! by pR0p3rdose (Mon 4th Sep 2023 7:56pm)
  • I’ll second citizen M hotel for it. Not used the one in Glasgow but used them a lot elsewhere when I’ve had some work to do. Fast Wi-Fi, quiet but not dead, decent coffee and food/snacks. Fairly easy place to kill a few hours of work and not feel uncomfortable. by pR0p3rdose (Fri 8th Sep 2023 4:17pm)
  • Waaaat! That’s absolutely wild. Sounds like a total jobsworth. I thought that would only be for the designated conference/meeting rooms. by pR0p3rdose (Fri 8th Sep 2023 6:37pm)
  • Depends how many of you are going may be just as cost effective/stress free to get a taxi. Fwiw I fly out of Glasgow a dozen times a year and most of the time I just get the 500 from town and never had an issue with it, especially that time of day. Only thing I’d watch out for is traffic out to the airport is a nightmare just now, so I’d give yourself an extra 30 minutes-hour just incase by pR0p3rdose (Wed 13th Sep 2023 1:07pm)
  • That’s fuckin hilarious ๐Ÿ˜‚ by pR0p3rdose (Wed 13th Sep 2023 2:52pm)
  • There was a boy I worked with about 12 years ago asked for 4 pairs of work trousers when he was getting his uniform - got called “spider” from that day on. by pR0p3rdose (Tue 14th Nov 2023 12:54pm)
  • Tbh the citizen M is a great spot to work in the city centre. Good and reasonably priced coffee too. I tend to use them when I’m travelling too as I’ve never had any pressure to move on from staff either. They also have private rooms you can rent for meetings etc by pR0p3rdose (Wed 29th Nov 2023 3:46pm)
