  • Went to the pub next my flat. They spent the 2 weeks leading up to now building a gazebo and working on their makeshift beer garden We didn't need to book as it was pretty quiet when we went It was quite nice to be out again and everyone was in good spirits too. And let's be honest, you just can't beat a draught beer from the pub by punky67 (Wed 28th Apr 2021 12:26pm)
  • Aldi stock them now. I used to love buying Macintosh apples, and i share your disappointment over their scarcity. Pink ladies and jazz apples are pretty good though by punky67 (Mon 3rd May 2021 8:31pm)
  • Cheers! That was a good read by punky67 (Wed 5th May 2021 11:38pm)
  • Definitely the best shawarma and falafel in Glasgow. I tried shawarma king recently, hearing that it was the best in Glasgow, but honestly, i think kurdish is a lot better by punky67 (Thu 6th May 2021 12:37pm)
  • Nanika on vicky rd. They do a jackfruit curry which I've heard good things about by punky67 (Mon 17th May 2021 9:44am)
  • I think a lot of it is to do with cultural change brought on my social media, and young people have way more distractions in this day and age. Not that i didn't of course ( born 1991), but i never had a smartphone as a teenager and didn't have to worry about how i looked on Facebook or Instagram by punky67 (Tue 8th Jun 2021 11:31pm)
  • I don't know how much the pandemic has changed things, but Glasgow has improved quite a fair bit in the last 10 or more years, at least when it comes to crime. I think the sunshine has always brought out the worst in some folk. We don't get much of it here, so when it finally comes out a lot people go hard and get pretty messed up. I'm sure many other uk cities have similar issues by punky67 (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 9:51am)
  • What's the deal with taking a hired van to the waste centre? Gonna do some renovation in the flat by punky67 (Mon 19th Jul 2021 11:52am)
  • Cheers man by punky67 (Mon 19th Jul 2021 1:47pm)
  • Like others have said, it seems to be pretty common, for what appears to be wealthy English retirees, to move to these picturesque places in Scotland and open up a b&b or a restaurant I've noticed it too when ive been to Arran and the Highlands by punky67 (Sat 28th Aug 2021 11:44am)
  • I feel the same way. When it comes to Scottish comedy, a lot of writers seem to think "bolt ya rocket" or "ye cannae beat it" is automatically hilarious. Like someone already said, Janey Godley levels of patter haha by punky67 (Tue 7th Sep 2021 9:47am)
  • Poor guy. Such a commanding presence on screen by punky67 (Wed 8th Sep 2021 9:43am)
  • This is quite an interesting post. I don't think I've ever seen this mentioned on this subreddit before. Maybe it's because coke has become so normalised, but when i actually think about it, cocaine is so rampant whenever i go out. You can always guarantee that someone in the group is on it on a night out by punky67 (Sat 11th Sep 2021 5:43pm)

  • The buses here are shite, unfortunately. Also quite expensive in comparison to Lothian in my experience. I've lived my whole life here and still can't get used to them lol. I've always said a single to the driver rather than my destination. Maybe that'll work? And missing buses are common too. That actually happened to me last month on Union Street around midnight. Seriously, where the fuck do these buses disappear to? by punky67 (Tue 21st Sep 2021 4:40pm)
  • Old toll bar, arlington, Allison arms by punky67 (Thu 30th Sep 2021 12:25pm)
  • What cookie cutter properties are you referring to? I'm curious to see them now :) by punky67 (Mon 6th Dec 2021 5:53pm)
  • Cool, I've heard good things about them before. Probably give them a try as they're not too far from me👍 by punky67 (Wed 8th Dec 2021 3:18pm)
  • Dough balls pizza is pretty good if you're more Central/West end by punky67 (Wed 8th Dec 2021 6:49pm)
  • Never had a curry on boxing Day. Usually just chill out and eat some leftover pigs in blankets and Turkey by punky67 (Wed 8th Dec 2021 11:24pm)
  • John Lewis do nice housecoats by punky67 (Tue 21st Dec 2021 9:32am)
  • The allison arms is quiet during the day but it can get really busy in the evening, and is usually heaving on the weekends. I quite like the titwood bar. I've usually found it to be very chilled out and it's more of a "proper" pub by punky67 (Thu 30th Dec 2021 6:04pm)
  • Non viet hai on great Western road. A bit pricey, but they do a good banh mi by punky67 (Mon 14th Feb 2022 8:44pm)
  • My gran lives there. I've never heard of any trouble happening. It's very quiet, not much in the way of shops or pubs, but if you have a car you're not too far from silverburn. You may have decent train links to town depending on how close you are to either pollokshaws west or thornliebank station by punky67 (Tue 22nd Feb 2022 2:05pm)
  • The turban tandoori at giffnock station is one of the best Indians in Glasgow in my opinion. Great service too. Already been said, but yadgars in govanhill. They do an excellent lamb karahi if that's your thing by punky67 (Thu 7th Apr 2022 8:09pm)
  • Whenever my family visits from the usa, i always like getting a mixture of american sweets and crisps. The kind of stuff we don't get over here by punky67 (Mon 13th Jun 2022 1:50pm)
  • I was reading about the subway a few years back, and the article said something along lines of, "The Glasgow subway, endearingly referred to by the locals as the clockwork orange." I've never heard anybody say that in my life haha by punky67 (Wed 15th Jun 2022 1:34pm)
  • I've found Doughballs pizza in finnieston to be the best option outside of the Neapolitan style places by punky67 (Thu 16th Jun 2022 10:39pm)
  • I fucking hate that advert. Leans into the usual shite "scottish" comedy. All these companies should know that just because I'm Scottish, saying things like "pure dead brilliant" and "what are we like, eh?" Makes me want your product less by punky67 (Wed 22nd Jun 2022 10:21pm)
  • A guy i know lives in quite a rough area, and last year something similar happened across the road from him. A fight broke out and somebody was slashed. He said the same thing, as did his next door neighbour. Don't bother getting involved. It sucks, but you may be bringing unwanted attention on yourself if anybody finds out you've been talking to the police by punky67 (Sat 25th Jun 2022 1:06pm)
  • My favourites are Good coffee cartel, laboratorio espresso and Riverhill. But to be fair, there are quite a lot of good coffee places in Glasgow, especially in town and the West end by punky67 (Mon 4th Jul 2022 12:09pm)
  • I flew out at the start of june, and it was totally fine. Heathrow, on the other hand, was a shite by punky67 (Wed 6th Jul 2022 9:52am)
  • *takeaway puts mac n cheese into a donner kebab Glasgow live/ladbible, "This is a game changer!" by punky67 (Thu 7th Jul 2022 8:43pm)
  • The recent coverage of the RMT strikes is a good example of this. Every news outlet desperately wanted the public to believe that these workers and Mick lynch were violent thugs who were ruining the country. I didn't see any neutrality on the matter by punky67 (Thu 7th Jul 2022 8:56pm)
  • This is now my go to place. Affordable, brilliant soup and the scones are incredible. It's also very peaceful inside by punky67 (Tue 9th Aug 2022 9:56am)
  • I am in love with chilo's fries. Generous portions and really tasty. Their peri peri wrap is quality if you fancy something different by punky67 (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 5:24pm)
  • 100%. I'm tired of the media trying to put the blame on workers, implying they are motivated by greed, while MPs consistently get wage rises, despite the fact they can already live comfortably in the current climate The binmen provide a critical service to us, and therefore should be treated more fairly by punky67 (Wed 24th Aug 2022 9:39am)
  • Tim tams are quality! Can't beat a tim tam slam by punky67 (Thu 1st Sep 2022 12:13pm)
  • Velvet moon in finnieston sell them if you're out that way by punky67 (Tue 27th Sep 2022 9:06pm)
  • I was there for an 18th around 2009/2010. Only time if ever been. Want anything special from what i remember. That's a blast from the past though by punky67 (Wed 28th Sep 2022 9:39am)
  • Roll and sausage always means square. Otherwise they'll ask for a roll and links by punky67 (Wed 28th Sep 2022 12:03pm)
  • Sub club and Berkeley suite were always my preferred clubs. If you like techno then they should be up your street. I always found Sub club to be a bit more intense, but it tends to attract pretty big name djs by punky67 (Fri 30th Sep 2022 7:52am)
  • Im a guy, so my experience will be different, but you should be fine in sub club. The only problem is that Union Street and the area around Central station is a bit shite and tends to attract a lot of weird characters. Berkeley suite might be a better shout. Similar to sub club but located in a more chill area by punky67 (Sun 2nd Oct 2022 10:13am)
  • This is the place i was thinking of. Recently tried their 3 piece spicy chicken supper. It is delicious and reasonably priced too by punky67 (Thu 6th Oct 2022 12:15pm)
  • That's good to hear. I've been given an appointment with them by punky67 (Thu 13th Oct 2022 9:43am)
  • The Thursday clap was the most self indulgent, lip service bullshit of covid. You even had cunts playing their bagpipes at one point by punky67 (Sat 5th Nov 2022 9:50am)
  • Not at all. There is definite anti-westminster/ anti-tory sentiment, but the Tories and media would have you believe that this equals hatred of all English people, which total bullshit by punky67 (Mon 28th Nov 2022 11:51pm)
  • Growing up me and my family would either have people at our house or go to a family friends party. Watching chewin the fat and only an excuse was always a given, and probably my favourite part. Then we'd watch the bells with Jackie Bird Last year was the first time i watched Jools Holland new year. Never again. England just don't do it the same as up here by punky67 (Mon 12th Dec 2022 9:35am)
  • They do really good food. One of the best vegan burgers I've had, and the chips were excellent by punky67 (Wed 21st Dec 2022 9:42am)
  • Who comes up with these phrases? Its not and never will be a thing by punky67 (Thu 22nd Dec 2022 9:55am)
  • Cauld is a great episode, especially for the classic thermagrips scene. Also, the theme of people not being able to afford heating hits home a bit harder now I really like the Canada episode as well, when jack phones the Clansman to let them know they arrived safe lol by punky67 (Thu 22nd Dec 2022 4:05pm)
  • I had a Guinness in bittles bar in Belfast, thinking it was a myth that Ireland done a better tasting pint. I thought it was far better than anything I've had in Glasgow I'm now really curious to try it in Dublin, if that's the case by punky67 (Fri 13th Jan 2023 10:30am)
  • Worst stadium I've ever been to. And it looks like a call centre from the outside by punky67 (Mon 16th Jan 2023 2:47pm)
  • A lot of the buskers are too loud. They all seem to have cranked their amps up to 11 by punky67 (Thu 26th Jan 2023 9:52am)
  • Definitely a term I've grown up using. Usually it would be something you would have at playtime, like a piece and jam by punky67 (Sat 4th Feb 2023 12:58am)
  • I work as a joiner and it's amazing how many of my workmates, all working class, voted Tory. I'll never understand how a bunch of rich etonites convinced these guys that they are the best party to represent them. It's almost impressive by punky67 (Fri 17th Feb 2023 10:36am)
  • I'm from a Celtic supporting, Catholic family, so i suppose there was no other choice for me haha. Generally, if you're from a Catholic background you will support Celtic, and Protestant you will support rangers. This isn't always the case though. I know Catholics who support rangers and vice versa, all for various reasons by punky67 (Wed 1st Mar 2023 9:52am)
  • I thought Belfast felt very similar to Glasgow when i visited. Never been to Dublin, but I've always heard that it's similar to Glasgow. Obviously the poll says different. Just out of curiosity, what other city is Dublin comparable to? by punky67 (Mon 13th Mar 2023 12:21pm)
  • I never got one. My partner did though, and we're both on the same network(giffgaff) by punky67 (Sun 23rd Apr 2023 5:52pm)
  • I would say subclub is one of the few venues were people of all ages can mix together and enjoy some great music by punky67 (Fri 28th Apr 2023 9:27pm)
  • I listened to this guys case on the "Swindled" podcast last year. Had never heard about it before, so i was totally shocked when they started playing a clip of stv news, saying he had resurfaced in Glasgow haha. The whole story is fucking mental by punky67 (Sat 13th May 2023 9:27am)
  • Glasgow has its problems like any other uk city, but we probably have it a lot better than most places when it comes to shopping, nightlife, music, greenspace, etc. And it didn't surprise me that a tourist would prefer Edinburgh. It's town centre is prettier and geared towards tourism, but I'd much rather live in Glasgow tbh by punky67 (Fri 26th May 2023 10:41am)
  • Kingston car spa on West st in Tradeston take card, and theres a cafe near by called Mulkanwan that's pretty decent by punky67 (Thu 15th Jun 2023 9:38am)
  • Watson's in Govan are good. Old school bakery with proper scotch pies. It's also pretty cheap by punky67 (Thu 29th Jun 2023 5:56pm)
  • I was also going to say the big Mac from bloc+. There are a lot of good burgers in Glasgow, but none of them have topped the mad mac by punky67 (Wed 13th Sep 2023 11:08pm)
