Interests:

  • I ran a bath yesterday, which is fairly unusual for me as I almost always have a shower. The water was very noticeably discoloured and now I'm scared to drink from the kitchen tap by the_8th_floor (Sat 5th Nov 2022 1:22am)
  • How so? by the_8th_floor (Wed 30th Nov 2022 12:46am)
  • Aye, this was more my mindset in Glasgow. Edinburgh is not messing around though by the_8th_floor (Fri 2nd Dec 2022 10:04am)
  • Eyewatering. Seems like you might get a great steak in Glasgow for half that by the_8th_floor (Fri 2nd Dec 2022 12:28pm)
  • Not surprised, I'm sure McChuills took about £6 for a Guinness off me, and that was a while ago. And in a plastic cup no less by the_8th_floor (Fri 2nd Dec 2022 4:41pm)
  • Maybe so. Not exactly known for it's cheap prices generally though? by the_8th_floor (Fri 2nd Dec 2022 5:27pm)
  • It was a the only time I was in there, so I don't know what was going on. I distinctly remember it though, as I had just had a Guinness before it in The Tollbooth, and it was £2-odd. And in a real glass by the_8th_floor (Fri 2nd Dec 2022 6:48pm)
  • Where's a good place to buy cigars? There used to be a great tobacconist just off George Square but it shut down years ago. Where else? by the_8th_floor (Sun 4th Dec 2022 5:38pm)
  • I don't remember the name of the place, it was on St Andrews Square, on the left side walking up towards the bus station from Princes Street by the_8th_floor (Mon 5th Dec 2022 5:05pm)
  • Can't disagree with this at all. City black hacks were taking the piss for literally years by the_8th_floor (Fri 9th Dec 2022 2:21pm)
  • Might be out of line here, but I'm not sure how far OP hopes to get by asking a stranger if they'll take him in. I think it's generally decent advice to never take a stranger into your home. by the_8th_floor (Mon 23rd Jan 2023 12:26am)
  • I definitely still use "tea time" by the_8th_floor (Tue 31st Jan 2023 6:25pm)
  • Until COVID hit, I never took the bus, trains all the way. But COVID turned the trains into a joke. And I always used them for work, which was even worse. They were so unreliable, unpredictable and finished so early it just wasn't worth it anymore. So I was forced into the habit of buses. I understand the trains are getting back to something approaching normal now, but I still feel stung by it. So I still find myself getting the bus often now by the_8th_floor (Thu 13th Apr 2023 7:16am)
  • Fankle is a great word by the_8th_floor (Sun 16th Apr 2023 7:48pm)
  • Is that in the city centre? by the_8th_floor (Wed 26th Apr 2023 10:41pm)
  • Thanks, I'll try there by the_8th_floor (Wed 26th Apr 2023 11:02pm)
  • The jackets I saw themselves looked fine, but I disliked the dude running it. Put me off by the_8th_floor (Wed 26th Apr 2023 11:06pm)
  • Thanks for the link. This was a similar experience to mine at that Morgan's place, too by the_8th_floor (Thu 27th Apr 2023 9:25am)
  • Glad you liked it, but nothing about it was for me. I won't go back by the_8th_floor (Thu 27th Apr 2023 9:34am)
  • Many thanks. Never even heard of an x19, either by the_8th_floor (Sat 20th May 2023 10:26am)
  • What happens if you take it off, give them it back and tell them to piss off? by the_8th_floor (Tue 6th Jun 2023 2:40pm)
  • Glasgow is a great city. It caters for loads of different tastes and interests, it's historic, it's not huge and relatively easy to get around, relatively low cost of living. Tons of plus points. I won't say the litter/cleanliness isn't annoying and I think the council can and should do better there. But on the whole it's a good place to be by the_8th_floor (Fri 28th Jul 2023 6:13pm)
  • There are IMAX and 4DX and whatever else you need in the city. You'll find them. Looking for entry for £6 is wishful at best. Aside from that, why is it better to have 200 people in a movie screening? The fewer the better in my experience by the_8th_floor (Thu 7th Sep 2023 2:08pm)
  • If I may offer a word of advice: no matter what size screen you find, probably best not to be cheering and whooping etc while the movie is on. It's unlikely to be well received by the_8th_floor (Thu 7th Sep 2023 3:05pm)
  • There are loads of cinemas. Of varying sizes. The Cineworld in the city centre was the largest cinema in Europe when it was built (I don't know if it still is). The big Showcase multiplexes scattered around the outskirts are great and all have big recliner leather seats. There's the GFT which shows smaller and independent and classic movies, and the building is in the art deco style - it's awesome. There's numerous Odeon and Vue: Braehead, The Quay, St Enoch etc, there's IMAX over near The Hydro, there's an old Empire in Clydebank, just west of the city, which doesn't show loads, but is definitely a bit cheaper for tickets. Lots to choose from by the_8th_floor (Thu 7th Sep 2023 3:42pm)
  • I hope you find a way to enjoy it, but be extremely cautious of agreeing to meet people you don't know by the_8th_floor (Tue 10th Oct 2023 11:41pm)
  • Only because it's been stupid warm until the weekend there. Last Monday was 17°C in Glasgow by the_8th_floor (Mon 16th Oct 2023 8:29pm)
  • Yup. I walked to work last week with a t-shirt on. In mid October. What? by the_8th_floor (Mon 16th Oct 2023 8:57pm)
