  • Lived in Dublin last year and moved to Glasgow in September 2019, I can tell you for a fact even in peak season (September) it is leagues easier to find a flat here than in Dublin, and as you know, way cheaper. I got a 2 bed in Maryhill for half the price I paid for a studio in Ranelagh. Word on the street is that a healthy chunk of international students won’t be returning this year, so September might be less mobbed than usual by thrungoli (Sun 14th Jun 2020 7:49pm)
  • 1-2 Lets are awful, I rented with them last year and that website was the bane of my existence. Waste of time if like me you aren’t from the UK, pretty sure 1-2 lets get a cut of whatever money the credit check takes. by thrungoli (Mon 13th Jul 2020 1:26pm)
  • If you look at the government numbers Glasgow is *by far* the worst hit area in Scotland, and its hospitalization numbers refuse to go down like they have in many other cities. If you were in a place like Dundee where there are less than 5 people in hospital, I’d say the pub is generally safe, but tbh I wouldn’t be keen on going to an indoor pub in Glasgow rn. by thrungoli (Sun 19th Jul 2020 10:18am)
  • https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-daily-data-for-scotland/ Glasgow has hovered at around 200 hospitalizations for weeks now while other regions seem to have nearly eradicated it locally by thrungoli (Sun 19th Jul 2020 10:24am)
  • I’m also driving a long distance to take my driving test this Saturday, like others have said it’s a necessary thing. There’s also not been any cancellation sent to me, so as far as I’m concerned what’s good enough for the DVSA is good enough for me by thrungoli (Thu 8th Oct 2020 6:03pm)
  • As someone who didn't have a car at the start of lockdown and got one halfway through for a job, you are totally right. Having a car has changed my life and keeps me from feeling trapped; I was a public transportation person through and through, but not only are services late, dodgy, and generally a bit miserable -- now with covid it's also dangerous. The car's changed all that: I can move around without worrying about getting my neighbors sick, and I don't have to deal with these "reduced services" so many bus companies are running these days. Getting my license during covid was one hardest things, as you're finding now, thanks to increased demand, the cancellation of tests during the worst lockdown months, and the insane backlog of driving lessons (everyone I phoned last year told me they were booked for about 8 months). To be honest, if I were you I would stick with it as learning to drive will open up a whole slew of opportunities for you even beyond covid times. It's a shit time to learn and take the tests, but I guarantee you'll thank yourself once you're on the other side. Good luck! by thrungoli (Sun 21st Mar 2021 12:51am)
  • They can say they're moving people into the community all they want, but it's simply not true; my relative's been waiting to get a place in supported accommodation for years but has been stuck in a mental hospital while he waits. Still no word on when he'll be out. Covid has only made it worse; up until this week he hadn't been allowed to leave the grounds, period, since Christmas. Yes it's better than it used to be, but mental healthcare in this country is still a joke (as it is most places). by thrungoli (Thu 1st Apr 2021 11:47am)
  • I lived in Maryhill for a year. It’s covered in dog shit and 20-year old rubbish. Decent views tho 😂 by thrungoli (Tue 13th Apr 2021 9:28am)
  • As someone who comes from California, I’ve always thought people in the UK and Europe in general were more carefree when it comes to smoking in public, even when it’s been legal in CA for decades by thrungoli (Thu 28th Oct 2021 7:42am)

  • Hey! Have you been anywhere else using the paper document? I had my 2nd dose in the US, and I’ve been wondering if its common to accept paper CDC cards by thrungoli (Wed 24th Nov 2021 12:56pm)
  • Hey man! Normally I would love to do this but as I've injured my back this week and live outside Glasgow these days, I can't. Buuut here is a guide on how you can do this yourself. [https://youtu.be/k4NTf0hMjtY?t=282](https://youtu.be/k4NTf0hMjtY?t=282) This guy uses Meshroom, which you can download for free ([https://alicevision.org/#meshroom](https://alicevision.org/#meshroom)) and use very easily. It looks complicated, but you can literally drag and drop a good photoset and get excellent results with the default settings. I would recommend taking as many photos as possible, taking an initial 360-degree set around the object, and then taking close-up shots afterward. Keep in mind that you want to avoid direct sunlight hitting your object, as this will mess up the scan. A dark overcast day in Glasgow should do the trick. As a sidenote, I've had some trouble with the latest version of Meshroom, but if you download version 2019.2, it should work perfect! (Though newer versions yield better results, generally) If your photos aren't being recognized, I would suggest changing the "Describer Preset" settings under the "Feature Extraction" node from "normal" to "high" (this will increase computation time). Depending on your PC's specs, I would also consider (unless your PC is a beast) scaling down the "Max Input Points" and "Max Points" in the "Meshing" node, and increasing the "Texture Downscale" slightly in the "Texturing" node. But like I said, if you're unsure, you can probably just use the default settings if you prefer! After this is done you can preview the model inside Meshroom, but you can also right-click the "Texturing" node to find your file location of your .fbx file (3D model). Good luck :D by thrungoli (Sun 28th Nov 2021 11:00am)

  • I don’t live there, but I did an amazing springtime walk at Carron Glen just outside of Denny, just a couple miles from Falkirk. Great bluebells and a nice wee river when the season is right by thrungoli (Fri 18th Feb 2022 10:22pm)

  • Like others have said pretty sure they will (eventually) go away. They had average speed cameras on the A9 from Perth to Bankfoot during the dualling of the road. They did go away, but only after years of construction that ran behind schedule 🙃 by thrungoli (Fri 27th May 2022 7:55pm)

  • Most of the bigger fireworks displays have been canceled all across Scotland for a few years now. I agree that it’s better to see a big well organized show than set them off in your street, but there are literally so few professional displays left that you can’t expect people to just bin the whole tradition by thrungoli (Sat 5th Nov 2022 10:02pm)
  • Where’s the rain? Jk looks great :D by thrungoli (Wed 11th Jan 2023 9:36am)
  • Just about every single bus shelter in Dundee had its glass broken a couple months back. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the pricks who did it decided to try again further afield now that there's no glass left where they stay :') by thrungoli (Thu 20th Jul 2023 2:31pm)
