  • If the visa you get going to Paris allows you to visit all of Europe I would choose that for a few months. Paris has high speed train connections so can visit other parts of Europe easily. • When it came to the professions section I was very influenced I think by my own experience rather than the accent. For example one of them sounded very like a doctor I had so put doctor. Other wise I couldn't see any reason to choose any of the to be one profession over another. Also because they mostly sounded like middle class women reading children's story then definitely were all primary teachers! by tostartpreasanykey (Sun 25th Jul 2021 10:37am)
  • Think the Hidden Lane, off Argyle Street used to have some nice more unique stuff. De Courcys arcade and Ruthven Lane just near Byres Road have some small shops selling local crafts I think. by tostartpreasanykey (Sun 25th Jul 2021 10:46am)

  • I'm with Nationwide and they've been fine. Went with them because they were rated well on ethical investment and that sort of thing. If that is important to you there are websites that rank banks on those issues. by tostartpreasanykey (Sun 17th Oct 2021 9:17am)

  • Once I had my offer accepted for my place I barely dealt with the estate agents. Was always my lawyer talking to the sellers lawyer. Ended up paying £500 for basically all the furniture. Not all in great nick but saved me hassle of finding stuff as a first time buyer before I could move. by tostartpreasanykey (Sat 6th Nov 2021 8:36am)
  • Think Nice N Sleazys do an acoustic open mic, not sure which day by tostartpreasanykey (Mon 8th Nov 2021 8:31am)
  • I agree, used them when I bought my place as a first time buyer. Mortgage broker recommended the solicitor as the one he uses for his personal sales. Was excellent at chasing up the seller's solicitors who were dragging their feet. Even contacted me months later saying they had over charged me and refunded me £20! by tostartpreasanykey (Mon 8th Nov 2021 3:58pm)

  • I did the conversation course MSc Software Development at Glasgow a few years ago. Only required a previous degree, I and most others had no coding background so you would have a head start. It's pretty intense but I enjoyed it and all the people I know on it have got good quality jobs. I didn't get support but I know there were a lot of people who did, at least covered the fees by tostartpreasanykey (Fri 31st Dec 2021 8:39pm)
  • I know people who worked part-time alongside it successfully, I didn't so can't speak from experience. If I remember correctly application process for the course was fairly straightforward, had to write a covering letter and get a reference. Mine was from a previous employer but could be ex lecturer etc I think by tostartpreasanykey (Sat 1st Jan 2022 2:52am)

  • I know Gerry, absolute top class guy too. by tostartpreasanykey (Thu 27th Jan 2022 7:54pm)
  • I did the course 4 years ago, was fairly intense. Don't know which lecturers are still around, like all unis some were great some not so. I've been working as a software dev ever since, as have most of the people I've kept up with afterwards. If you do go try and get in with a good group of friends and study together, really helped especially as most will be learning something totally new, explaining to each other what's confusing helps things stick in your mind and be clearer. I really enjoyed it generally by tostartpreasanykey (Sat 29th Jan 2022 12:21pm)
  • If no chippy does at the moment then the first one to do so will get a Glasgow Life article about it by tostartpreasanykey (Sat 29th Jan 2022 12:25pm)
  • I work with Java mostly, backend for web apps. Java was the teaching language they used when I was there. Although some modules used Python. There wasn't much on JavaScript which is what most frontend stuff in industry will be. Once you have learned one language though. It gives you a grounding in the basic logic for learning others. Course covers more theory in things like design patterns and data structures than I think you get in Code Clan from what I've heard. I hadn't done any maths since high school either and found it fine. by tostartpreasanykey (Sat 29th Jan 2022 3:30pm)

  • Dave McLellan at this place has been great, did my first mortgage and just helped change deal when the initial fixed term ran out. Got me a real good deal. Was recommended him by a friend initially. They don't charge as they get a commission from the mortgage company by tostartpreasanykey (Tue 22nd Mar 2022 12:39am)
  • Can also give you advice when remortgaging, mine knew to appeal to revalue my place so I got a much better deal when my initial fixed rate ran out. by tostartpreasanykey (Tue 22nd Mar 2022 12:36am)
  • I bought 3 years ago and payed 10% over HR, worried for a while I had paid over the odds, seeing flats in same street advertised for less etc, but flat in my close just sold for £20k more than I paid. Even if you see flats online that you think are better for the same price you paid, no way of knowing how much they will go for in the end. That meant when my initial fixed rate mortgage came to an end my advisor was able to get them to adjust my loan to value ratio and I got a great deal. by tostartpreasanykey (Fri 15th Apr 2022 9:39pm)

  • I bought one of these and could only get a poor signal on one side of the house. I'm on the ground floor though which probably explains it by tostartpreasanykey (Fri 24th Jun 2022 8:26am)

  • More nice places to sit in town, only really have George Square by tostartpreasanykey (Mon 5th Sep 2022 1:27pm)
  • Having just had a blocked drain the plumber will try using a decent plunger first. You can get a alright one for cheapish on Amazon, don't want the little cheap ones with wooden handles. Not powerful enough. If you can't use one because of your disability I would ask a friend to help. Guides on YouTube how to use it by tostartpreasanykey (Mon 12th Sep 2022 6:58pm)

  • If it's Hyperoptic, the install inside the flat isn't too bad, and definitely doesn't leave major damage to walks etc if that worries the landlord. The fibre brought in us ran along a skirting board and is barely visible. They do have to attach a connection box to that though which needs a couple of screws into the wall, and needs to have a power cable to a nearby socket, and then that connects to a router via ethernet. It took quite a while to get the install into the actual close organised. Needed to get factor agreement etc. by tostartpreasanykey (Tue 11th Oct 2022 8:37am)
