  • profit making landlords are parasites by their very definition, there's no way around that - sorry! unless you buy it and rent it out at an amount that covers your mortgage and nothing more, then you're only becoming another cog in the ever worsening housing crisis by worldofecho_ (Mon 17th Jan 2022 9:37pm)
  • The alternative is to reform housing in the UK. That would start more regulation - rent control, not allowing landlords to own unlimited properties for the sole purpose of renting them out. More rights for tenants. The building of more social housing, and having stricter and more enforceable rules on property developers who have to include a higher percentage of **actually** affordable housing on new builds. For sure, earning an ongoing flow of passive income sounds great - but at the expense of exploiting someone else, and perpetuating a market that continues to rise for renters whilst the cost of living keeps going up and wages generally stay stagnant? No thank you. Everybody should have access to secure, affordable social housing should they need it and it should be much easier to get on to the property ladder and buy a home. As long as the housing market is allowed to continue unregulated, the more dire society is going to become - higher poverty rates and miserable people. by worldofecho_ (Tue 18th Jan 2022 9:10am)
  • I understand pensions are not what they used to be, in the same way that the housing market is not what it used to be. It’s a different symptom of the same problem which is free market capitalism. Equally, if someone is in the position to be able to buy a second home to rent out then really they are already wealthier than the majority. Of course there is a super elite above these people that have unfathomable amounts of wealth, and that for things to really be able to change its these people that will need to be held to account and for their assets to be properly regulated. However I still believe morally it’s on everyone to think about the decisions they make and how they effect others in classes below them. by worldofecho_ (Tue 18th Jan 2022 7:32pm)

  • The 4 bus route keeps using buses with 75 route labelling plastered across them - I’m not sure why. But it will likely have been the 4 following its usual route in that area by worldofecho_ (Fri 27th May 2022 3:06pm)
  • Yes, they suck by worldofecho_ (Fri 27th May 2022 3:09pm)
  • DELETED I really recommend downloading the First bus app, it will tell you live and accurate times when a bus is due. You can even track it moving towards you. I only realised this recently after waiting for too many buses that never came due to incorrect info on the board or Google Maps. The transport system in Glasgow is still shit but this app has helped me get places on time a bit better. Obviously it’s only for First bus routes though. by worldofecho_ (Sat 18th Jun 2022 8:02pm)
  • PureGym have lots of gyms in city centre and surrounding neighbourhoods. Good classes, facilities and cheap. You will need to choose a ‘home gym’ and pricing varies for each. Make sure you choose one of the higher priced gyms as it will give you access to a wider range of the Glasgow gyms. Also if you move and it’s not working out, there’s no contract so you can easily leave. Another idea is Classpass. You pay monthly and get a certain number of tokens to use for access to a range of gyms, studios or classes. There seems to be more businesses using this now so there is choice, but it’s not abundant. Hope that helps! by worldofecho_ (Wed 6th Jul 2022 11:18am)

  • Don’t tell letting agent/landlord about the cat. Not worth it. If there’s an inspection they have to give 3 days notice and in that time you can make arrangements to take the cat out while they’re in by worldofecho_ (Fri 8th Jul 2022 10:59am)
  • Your opinion. It’s worked for me. by worldofecho_ (Fri 8th Jul 2022 1:02pm)
