  • I remember going to raves down at the warehouse (Now SWG3) in 2003/, the disused tunnel under KG, and the The Unit. • Not doing anything wrong? Have you fucking seen how the services are being run since Albelio took over? Off-peak is a sham because the prices are massively inflated to target people who can't travel at different times - that is, people who have to make it work in the morning and get back again the evening. It can't possibly incentivize fair paying customers who absolutely must travel those times to travel at a different time. I mean, imagine your energy company increasing your electricity price by up to 70% in the morning because you must take a shower, just to take the load off the national grid. You spastic. by 8bitrenderboy (Sat 11th May 2019 12:23pm)
  • I remember when I lived in Glasgow there were some particularly brutal rapes between 2011-13 in the west end. I was convinced the staff from kebab shops might be doing the rapes; the way they used to swear and and say shit to really drunk chicks was seriously disturbing, especially those nutters in Barbeque Kings, just beside The Viper. Pretty controversial statement. by 8bitrenderboy (Tue 21st May 2019 9:16pm)

  • Studied at GSA myself - what are you doing? I'd suggest going to The Arlington on a Friday and Saturday on Woodlands road. This should break you in quite nicely. Additionally, if you can't handle the Arlington, I'd maybe go to The Belle on Great Western Road. by 8bitrenderboy (Fri 24th May 2019 4:21pm)
  • Not all of West Princes street is messed up, but especially the side closest to the city center is run particularly rundown: there's a lot of problems with the flats (serious damp, internal structural issues, noise, drug selling). I'd generally avoid that end, unless you're going to art school after parties etc which tend to happen there randomly. I can only recommend areas I have stayed myself, but I moved to Malta and then on to Edinburgh, so have been out of the city for 5 years, so rents prices have probably gone up. I recommend: Thornwood, Partick Hill, Dowanhill, Broomhill. I grew up near in Hyndland, so know areas well. Also, a lot of people I know in the south side now as rental prices aren't as bad. Also, in the next month or two is a good time to look as a lot of students start leaving the city for summer and give up flats / rooms / bedsits, so you ought to find a bargain. Fucking avoid Queen Margaret Drive at all costs: at night time a lot of drunk students walk up that street back to Murano Street Student Village, dressed as unicorns or pokemons, pished, shouting or crying. by 8bitrenderboy (Fri 24th May 2019 6:57pm)

  • Council need to do something about the seagulls. They are a huge part in rubbish getting torn out of bin bags etc. Followed closely by people trying to stuff things into bins the council have failed to empty. by 8bitrenderboy (Sun 26th May 2019 8:13am)
  • It breaks my heart to see the amount of rubbish when I come back to Glasgow. Such a beautiful city and people can't do a small bit to keep it clean and bring down the whole place. by 8bitrenderboy (Sun 26th May 2019 8:25am)
  • There will always be waste in food in bins, or the scent of food coming from bins, so said seagulls tear open bin bags or pull out rubbish and this rubbish gets everywhere as it's blown around by the winds. This is a seriously huge part of the problem for litter getting absolutely everywhere. by 8bitrenderboy (Sun 26th May 2019 8:46am)

  • Glasgow is a city of dreamers and loners and has a lot of musicians. Some of the more persistent ones are a bit more autistic resulting in guys like this. by 8bitrenderboy (Sun 2nd Jun 2019 8:09am)
  • As brutal as it is, kitchen porter work. Find a place that properly gives a fair percentage to its staff. Not only will you work extremely hard, but everything else in work and life will seem easier after working in a kitchen. Also, free food most of the time. by 8bitrenderboy (Mon 3rd Jun 2019 9:13am)
  • Terrible tragedy, isn't it? It will be harder and more costly for you, and others like you, to permeate the air with fine particle dust, fuck my lungs and my kids because it's really essential for you get your comics around, see your GP (Would that be like every day?), and see your favourite shops. Pretty hard getting the Subway, or the low level trains, or the buses that come by every 5 - 8 minutes. Genuine tragedy you'd have to wait on those unreliable times. You ought to contact a newspaper, or you local MP, about the dreadful impact it will have on yourself and your life. by 8bitrenderboy (Mon 3rd Jun 2019 11:34pm)
  • Fucking hell. This isn't about being on a high horse or better than anyone, or being a fucking hippy. It's about improving air quality and making cities better to live in. People need to stop thinking about convenience and start making personal sacrifices right now - I know it's uncomfortable: waiting about for buses or trains / subway, or hauling shit around by hand. Glasgow is practically a garden city and can get even better, has amazing public transport (Aye, screw Firstbus, I know), but the quicker we get cars out of it, the more amazing it will be. Other European cities are doing this, and we ought to join them. Listen, go try living in Malta and see what it's like when everyone drives around all the time and can't park anywhere. Because, I moved there and developed asthma and contact dermatitis because of the air pollution, nor could I even play football out in the open because the air was so bad, and eventually had to back to Scotland. I refuse to let that happen here in Glasgow, or Edinburgh where i'm living right now. Again, don't tell me I'm up some where on some high horse because I'm not. by 8bitrenderboy (Tue 4th Jun 2019 3:38pm)

  • My advice is you ought to leave as soon as you reasonably can. I felt the same way about 6 years ago after finishing up at Uni. I, too, dreaded the weeks without seeing the sun, the rain, which bothered me the most. But, everything else I could handle as I had previously every other bad day, though it weighed on me heavily. So I made it my mission to get the fuck out of Glasgow even if it meant walking straight out of the city and just walking because it got so bad. I ended up in Edinburgh for 2 years working, then decided, after fantasising for years, I'd move to a hot country and I could finally keep my shorts on for 300 days of the year, which finally happened: I sent a random application to a Swedish igaming company, called Betsson, based in Malta. I ended up getting a job and stayed in Malta for a year and a half. After living away and visiting other places in the south, talking to loads of folk at the company, all these other people I worked with had left places like Italy, Spain, Bulgaria etc had told me on a daily basis, even more fucked up things about their countries and it honestly made Scotland sound utopian. It took me a good while, though I always sort of knew it: it was always about the satisfaction of moving away from Glasgow; the fact I had it in me to just leave, and had the freedom, and will power, to do it. But, I had done it and it felt great. I'm currently back in Edinburgh, I've lost my tan, can't wear my shorts all the time, and can't go for a swim in the sea, the weather is still shit. But, do you know what? I'm being really honest: I'm so glad to be back here and I ain't ever going away again because it's even more fucking messed up out there and you wouldn't believe it. You still have time and freedom of movement in the EU, just to leave and go anywhere as you please. This also might sound strange: being Scottish in itself is an advantage because, for some reason, everyone loves it when you tell them you are Scottish; there is some mystique about Scotland, so people give you more attention or ask more questions about you. Maybe not in England, however. But everywhere does. Again, this is also strange: if you have a really strong accent, I'd try to lose it a little; it's not faking it, it's actually trying to survive. Good luck, and happy travels. by 8bitrenderboy (Wed 5th Jun 2019 10:28am)

  • You're right about Edinburgh, by the way. My GF loves it, but any sensible person knows Glasgow is a more liveable city. Edinburgh has amazing jobs, though - Glasgow, too, but just a lot less. by 8bitrenderboy (Wed 5th Jun 2019 12:57pm)
  • You shouldn't extend your own bad experiences to a whole city and its people, mate. So, there people who having a hard time: they are pished, or shooting up, but that is every where. You should know that. by 8bitrenderboy (Wed 5th Jun 2019 1:01pm)
  • Nah mate, no way. The definition of a shithole, and I can this from experience is way south and it is Malta : literally no parks or any grass to sit on, pavements are fucked and impossible to walk on, corruption at every level of government / business, bars and food are terrible (Want to complain? Told to fuck off every time), beyond filthy and one the most heavily polluted places in the EU, dead cats every where on the streets, houses and rent beyond what most can afford (Worse than any UK city), daily xenophobia and black people being shot in drive-bys by soldiers, just for being black. We're talking are little, pretty idyllic island which has more days of sunshine per year any where else in Europe. I refuse to let anyone call Scotland a shithole until they've experienced a place like that. In fact, just talk to any sensible - and honest person - who is from Italy (South), Spain, Greece, Bulgaria etc, and they will tell you how bad it is in the south of Europe. As i've said else where recently, Scotland even with its faults, is pretty progressive and the standard of living, for the most part, is really high. by 8bitrenderboy (Wed 5th Jun 2019 1:38pm)

  • For me it was a guy that drank in the Arlginton. He dressed like he was an old Etonian going on a safari shooting or something. One day I mustered the courage to speak to him and asked what he did, and he said to me in a posh, English accent, "I do excellence". Every time me and my mates went to the Arlington I'd just nod at him and think how hilarious he was sitting by himself getting fuxored. by 8bitrenderboy (Sun 23rd Jun 2019 6:46pm)

I then met his daughter, a waitress, 9 years later who worked at Little Urban Achievers Club and she was literally the definition - nay - classic textbook sociopath. Honestly, couldn't believe it when she told me her dad owned and ran Trans Europe Cafe. by 8bitrenderboy (Mon 18th Nov 2019 10:20pm)
  • Voting SNP literally guarantees another 4 / 5 years of a Conservative party - more state asset stripping, poor folk fucking demonised to point of suicide or early death, financial institutions allowed to bet on anything they want and cause another crash so Venture Capital funds can pick up struggling companies and properties on the cheap, massive tax evasion for any company who wishes to do so, with a massive loss of tax to local councils and governments, NGOs and charities. And your rights as a worker - holiday pay, sick pay, time off when you have kid? That's all about to go as well because there won't be any real opposition. Also, see that 2nd referendum? That's not happening for a very, very long time. Cannea stop laughing, aye? by 8bitrenderboy (Mon 18th Nov 2019 10:36pm)

  • ToastofScotland - Ireland's use of SPVs is scandalous and Ireland is a tax haven. The amount of money - trillions, in fact - which passes through their shadow banking is completely and totally immoral and it's a race to the bottom when you start offering companies those kind of rates. It allows companies to dodge paying any real tax and it harms the country they are making their money from and allow far too much capital - legal and illegal capital - to be moved from the host country. The only people in Ireland that benefit are the shareholders, lawyers and consultants who make hundreds of thousand of euros in fees, while other countries end up with fiscal deficits, and less money in the real economy. The only way to stop this happening to have tax harmonisation across the EU or we end up with shadow banking sectors like in Ireland. If you honestly think it would make Scotland a better place, you're literally fucked in the head. by 8bitrenderboy (Mon 18th Nov 2019 11:02pm)

  • Devlieroo and all these other food delivery companies like Ubereats, long term objectives is to create their own kitchens / menus, put their kitchens / brands on the top of the search results, and essentially control the whole entire market. Eventually you'll have a huge factory / kitchen in each city which they own, and the site will show all of these different brands / menu, in which the user will think they buying from different brands. But it will all come from Deliveroo itself. Every other take away will begin to close up as the Deliveroo or whoever increases their fees etc, or put local take aways from its search results. They claim to "strengthen the UK restaurant sector" etc, but as I said, their business plan is to start competing with other small businesses and there will be only 1 winner. by 8bitrenderboy (Tue 30th Mar 2021 6:38pm)

  • We lost a good friend, and heard of friends losing other friends purely to drugs, all to heroin. I looked back on those people and began to realise there was something off about them, something dark in their history, like sexual abuse or generally having weird families and upbringings. They were the quiet ones, kinda people who in school kind of blended in but equally stood out. I often think some of these people would have some find other way to be destructive; drugs just sometimes speed those declines up. I'm not saying fate here, because I believe we're free agents of sorts, although we're all mostly burdened by our pasts and recent experiences.I'm definitely out out of touch of what’s happening these days regarding drugs, but in the 2000s / early my circle of friends choice was straight up ecto / MDMA, maybe buzzing a can of gas here and there. I think I had enough self-awareness to acknowledge I was at some sort of risk if I took too much, so only occasionally got fandangod (Usually MDMA). I don't particularly have strong opinions on drugs because it's these experiences and risks people to take and life without any these experiences; altering our state of mind is an ancient past time. Still, though rarely, I pop a sweet literally for a laugh because I still find it hilarious saying to myself: "A guy on Sauchiehall street street fucking asked me if I wanted to buy some Bin Ladens and I bought a few" by 8bitrenderboy (Sat 11th Sep 2021 6:33pm)

They all thought they where hard, robbed people, bottled people, sucker punched people who didn't want to fight, and swaggered about like they were big men. • I worked briefly with them back in the summer, when I student - back in 2012 - and I thought they were pretty nice guys. I remember I never really saw Scott around, but in my interactions with him he was a bit sardonic at times, but Mo and Graham were always super positive, fair, and always trying to sort shit out. by 8bitrenderboy (Sun 19th Feb 2023 6:53pm)
  • I thought he was pretty sardonic, to be honest, and that didn't bother me because I've got a real dark sense of humor. I found them always super fair in my interactions with them and left on good terms when I was a student working for 'em. by 8bitrenderboy (Sun 19th Feb 2023 7:02pm)

  • I came here with the intention of saying this too. All of these ideas and changes come around every 20 to 15 years because they reflect people's careers councils: "We can commercialize George Square and generate revenue for the government from businesses wishing to use the space for profit". And when it doesn't work, the next person that comes in and replaces them: "We need to create a green space that is truly for the people of Glasgow". It's cyclical, cynical, and a sign of the times. by 8bitrenderboy (Wed 1st Mar 2023 4:47pm)
  • Underrated comment this. by 8bitrenderboy (Sat 4th Mar 2023 8:47pm)
  • Echo your sentiment. I finally got around to shouting at 2 guys after 1 of them threw their Mcdonald's packaging out their van window. Guy was so fucking shocked at getting told he was pleading he tried to throw it "in the back of the van". I didn't push it anymore than that and just walked off. It's pretty cathartic telling a stranger how shit they are and it gets a real load off your back, especially spending years' moaning about it. I think as a society we're mostly too cowardly and prefer expressing ourselves through mediums like this. by 8bitrenderboy (Sun 5th Mar 2023 6:47pm)

  • Thomas Joshua Cooper was a great guy. He was undeniably talented and stupidly intelligent but he did have a serious aggressive undertone if he thought anyone was just there just to pass the time. I did hear stories he would reduce students to tears but I never saw this ever, and he was interesting, a good laugh, and could carry a lot of verbiage in one breath during crits. However, he had a complete and utter lackey there, a lecturer within the Fine Art Photography department, who was a total utter sociopath, and, at times, a bit weird and sleazy around females, which I picked up on instantly and took a real fucking disliking to. And, to be honest, I hope he's left because he's a boring creep and really talentless. by 8bitrenderboy (Sun 11th Jun 2023 8:21pm)

However, I do sometimes think war is justified to protect ethnic minorities from being purged, and to remove dangerous people from power, and NATO is the greatest peacekeeping apparatus since democracy itself. by 8bitrenderboy (Mon 3rd Jul 2023 9:07pm)

  • 'woke' is a common term used mostly on social media, and anything trans, LGBT, or anything that is 'woke' is amplified by social media recommendation engines because it is controversial content.
