  • At the end of the day it really has almost no effect on employment opportunities anymore. All that matters is your final degree mark and your actual techincal knowledge on your subject. I currently work in the industry (worked in both electrical and systems) and I can tell you from experience that employers care a lot less about your degree and a lot more about your actual capability. I've been graduated about 10 years and can honestly say that during the huge amount of interviews I've attended that I've never had an interviewer ask which uni I went to. I guess the above is anecdotal but I'm basically saying it doesn't matter too much where he goes as long as he's willing to put in the graft. by AQuirkyWorky (Tue 11th Feb 2020 5:42pm)
  • Because I don't include it, just the title of my course and mark. by AQuirkyWorky (Tue 11th Feb 2020 6:36pm)
  • I've literally never been asked to provide proof of my degree, have gone through graduate schemes and multiple senior engineering roles that have a 2:1 or higher requirement and not once have they ever asked for me to provide proof of my degree. It's just not common at all. There probably are folk out there lying about having one, but I guess it's not worth the risk of getting caught. by AQuirkyWorky (Wed 12th Feb 2020 5:32pm)
  • Electric, but it's not part of my scottishpower leccy bill. by AQuirkyWorky (Tue 18th Feb 2020 9:02pm)
  • >Are you locked into a heating supplier as part of your tenancy agreement? Yes, they've said we're not allowed to change our heating supplier. There's no boiler in the flat, just an electrical box hooked up to the pipes in the cupboard so I'd imagine it's all done through hot water, no idea how. You may be right on the district heating. by AQuirkyWorky (Tue 18th Feb 2020 9:02pm)
  • At the minute the smart meter shows 0.1125 p\kWh but 2 hours ago it showed 1.300 p\kWh. Is that normal? by AQuirkyWorky (Tue 18th Feb 2020 9:00pm)
  • 17 quid for a mens cut isn't affordable for me sadly but thanks all the same by AQuirkyWorky (Thu 29th Oct 2020 11:23am)
  • Is this the turkish barbers beside the chemist someone else in this thread has mentioned? by AQuirkyWorky (Thu 29th Oct 2020 11:22am)
  • I lived here for a year. Beautiful flats but for the money not worth it. The council tax is a band G which is about 300-400 quid a month and the factor fees were fucking ridiculous. The lifts were constantly breaking and we were averaging 400 quid a month on the factors to get them fixed. All this before paying the rent. Living there was genuinely a brilliant experience though. The location is amazing, the inside of the building is beautiful, and the soundproofing in the flats is surprisingly great. I lived on the 4th floor and never heard any of my neighbours once, had a fair whack of wild parties as well and never had any bother. In the end I was just haemorrhaging money though and had to move out. by AQuirkyWorky (Thu 21st Jan 2021 1:23pm)
  • I'd be absolutely fine if the walls and floors were just white/bare, but the wallpaper in every room is literally yellow with cigarette smoke and when trying to strip it there's 5 different layers going all the way back to the 80s geometric stuff! by AQuirkyWorky (Thu 28th Jan 2021 12:49pm)
  • Where can I go for a pint in/near Ibrox this weekend that I'll get a walk in and won't be full of Rangers fans? by AQuirkyWorky (Thu 10th Jun 2021 12:53pm)
  • Will give it a go, cheers! by AQuirkyWorky (Thu 10th Jun 2021 1:44pm)
  • All the pubs are Rangers pubs though. The park bar, the kensington, the grapes, district bar, the bellrock. I've been in every one of them and heard renditions of sweet caroline that I'm not very partial to in all of them. Don't even care about football really just would rather not drink in pubs like that especially as my mates aren't from Glasgow. by AQuirkyWorky (Thu 10th Jun 2021 1:46pm)
  • I've got an 80 litre framed rucksack you can have for nothing if you want it. Did the west highland way with it years ago and sat in my cupboard gathering dust since then. by AQuirkyWorky (Wed 7th Jul 2021 11:17am)
  • I live in Lenzie and work in Partick. My commute has now went from 40 mins to 2 hours and my employer refuses to let me work from home even though I probably could. Mon the workers but fuck me this is gonna be a shite 2 weeks :( by AQuirkyWorky (Mon 25th Oct 2021 2:39pm)
  • I worked there for 2 years in the DC in Kinning Park. The job overall was shite, stressful and the shift pattern was horrendous but tbh the experience gained was class so its really what you make of it. A lot of boys who worked there at the time have gone on to work in some very well paying jobs, myself included. It's not something you can stick out permenantly though, on average folk would last about 3 months before sacking it off cause the it was low paid, high stress and the shift pattern of days > nights > days > nights fucking kills you. by AQuirkyWorky (Fri 15th Jul 2022 9:53pm)
  • When I was there it was 4 on 4 off 7-7 changing from days to nights every second shift but it's changed since, think they're doing 13 hour shifts one of the days now cause they can't cover it well enough 😂 by AQuirkyWorky (Fri 15th Jul 2022 10:06pm)
  • Folk who are factored by them will have a VERY difference experience vs folk who live in their rental properties so take the reviews with a pinch of salt. (As you can see from the other dude in this thread). I'm the latter. I've stayed with them for about 5 years in the new build flats in ibrox. They've been absolutely class for me so far. Replaced flooring, fridges, freezers, showers, carpets etc all dead quick with lovely stuff that's been brand new. Cheap enough rent for what you get as well. My flat is a 2bed duplex with a balcony. It's fucking huge for the rent I pay. Can't imagine living anywhere else or ever wanting to move until I can buy. by AQuirkyWorky (Mon 8th Aug 2022 4:42pm)
  • A lot easier than it will be now, probably. Just applied online they got back to me asking me to fill out a load of forms proving my salary/payslips/savings account/bank details and everything else. I was getting made homeless at the time so I was on the phone to them non stop chasing up my application which I think helped a bit. The ones at ibrox are midmarket rents yeah. You need to be making like 22k and above to be eligible. I moved in around 2017 time when the rental market was relatively sound. It's fucked now so I imagine everycunt and their dug will be applying for these flats tbh. by AQuirkyWorky (Mon 8th Aug 2022 4:53pm)
  • They are certainly not a myth but the way I see it is from an odds perspective. There are a million different factors that can effect your kids learning some of which are related to the school and some aren't. It's not impossible for someone who goes to a school low in the exam tables to do well, but the odds are stacked against them due to things like funding for the school and poverty/crime/societal issues in the local area. In that same vein just because you send your bairn to Jordanhill doesn't automatically mean they'll do well, but it does increase their odds of doing well astronomically. I think you'd be naive to think it's a myth and that the exam tables don't mean anything but it's not the be all and end all, especially if they're willing to work hard regardless of what school they go to. I went to a school dead bottom of the league tables for 4 years in a row. I managed to do well in my highers and go to uni and I make a decent living now. But I can count on one hand the amount of folk in my year who did the same. I genuinely think about 4 people did 5 highers in my year at school and I maybe know 1 or 2 people I went to school with who do well now. With that said my Mrs went to a very posh west end school and had every opportunity in the world and she's now working in a call centre. No judgement or classism is meant by this post, I grew up as skint as they come, I'm just saying it is what you make it really. by AQuirkyWorky (Wed 31st Aug 2022 1:30pm)
  • What are the standard mortgage rates the now? Is it still 4 or 4.5 times your salary? I'm 22 and have no idea where to start with buying but I've lucked my way into a decent gig so want to at least think about it. Confused as fuck. by AQuirkyWorky (Mon 3rd Oct 2022 10:34am)
