  • Correct, all modern wireless technology infrastructures today listen passively to the "pings" your phone gives out constantly. Some retailers even drill down further and place them in a heat graph, so they can see what's popular (by ways of how long devices spend at X location or shelf) It's becoming a major way for retailers to see what's popular and what's not. This is all 100% passive and it's correct, no identifying information is collected. it's just the "Big Data" world we live in now. by Altecice (Sun 21st Jul 2019 4:15pm)
  • The 5700xt is plagued with driver issues right now... People swear by AMD graphics cards but, I have built many PCs and even owned previous generations of AMD/ATI cards and it sounds like the exact same issue - Black screens. It's ashame because the hardware is Excellent but the software ALWAYS let's them down. Your plan to exchange it for a 2070s is the correct thing to do and you won't regret it. Been building and fixing PCs for years. What you have found in your research is spot on. I only build Nvidia systems for friends or family else I always get issues. by Altecice (Sun 26th Jan 2020 3:59am)
  • Yup even if any of the suggested "fixes" helped. You would be gimping your performance. You don't go and buy a new car for them to tell you to only use first and second gear... Like I said, great hardware but terrible drivers. Ironically you could now overclock your 2070s to get extra performance all without crashes - within reason - and enjoy driver updates as games actually launch and not 3 weeks later! • You need to be put back on your old companies payroll to qualify I believe? by Altecice (Sat 4th Apr 2020 2:35am)
  • They already are hence the new precautions... Its always a few dafties ruining it for everyone. by Altecice (Tue 1st Sep 2020 8:40pm)
  • What he just described is herd immunity in action. If ~>70% of children are vaccinated then we can carry the ones who aren't. I doubt he has "never had a cold" tho hahah by Altecice (Tue 29th Sep 2020 4:56pm)
  • We are going to be in and out of lockdown til we reach the threshold for herd immunity ~70% of the population have had it/immune OR we get a vaccine. **It is as simple as that.** The good new is that the Cambridge based vaccine is in accelerated human trails and is proving successful with around 30k people trailed so far around the world. The attempt it to speed up the process from 5-10 years down to a single year, a major achievement if. by Altecice (Fri 9th Oct 2020 10:23pm)
  • Because *some* people are idiots, I have no other explanation... They listen to what the Facebook general opinion is by like-minded people and not real science. Edit: I am by no means saying this is not bad for local businesses and their future. by Altecice (Tue 17th Nov 2020 3:15pm)
  • We need to start on-the-spot fining people to really get the message across, its for everyone's benefit. by Altecice (Tue 17th Nov 2020 3:23pm)
  • All drugs have known and unknown side effects, they can't test on every human so there is always a tiny chance your body reacts baddly to it. This is why major vaccines and drug trails offer compensation schemes in the event this happens. It's worth pointing out this new vaccine was cleared first for use in the UK because we have the best virologists in the world, they did not skip tests only accelerated them. Proof of its safety can be seen by the USA a few days ago also approving and ordering millions of doses. Facebook really is just an echo-chamber for idiots... This vaccine is administered in two doses spread over 28 days mind you, could turn you into a zombie on day 27!!! by Altecice (Sun 13th Dec 2020 4:57am)
  • Sure the knowledge is public but the UK has state of the art facilities built for testing that other countries do not have, the UK is very equipped in this area of science. The legal immunity does not include immunity from giving the compensation in the event its required. Its there to protect the company and the nurses/staff giving the injections from being sued. by Altecice (Sun 13th Dec 2020 5:57pm)
  • I also love the hypocrisy of Tories asking for her resignation when half their party should get the boot for rulebreaking and general shady stuff first! by Altecice (Fri 5th Mar 2021 5:21pm)

  • No such thing as a shortage of drivers, pay decent wages and the drivers will come. by Altecice (Mon 4th Oct 2021 4:41pm)
  • Yup, I've got mates in the IT sector willing to take pay cuts to work from home or hybrid, It just better for some people and the no/reduced travel is a big positive. Your talent will leave you for another company if you insist on making them come back to the office and its happening all over the IT industry right now. I cant see it ever going back to 9-5 office hours. by Altecice (Tue 12th Oct 2021 8:40pm)
  • Exactly, I fail to see how this is directly Barclays fault. If anything blame it on their landlord for somewhat unethically capitalising on the increased desirability of the area. by Altecice (Tue 12th Oct 2021 8:46pm)
  • Yep, we don't need more of this during a housing shortage. We need more built-to-sell-at-sensible-prices development... sigh. by Altecice (Wed 1st Dec 2021 3:02pm)
  • > I think NI increase is justified and needed to improve state of NHS. I am willing to bet the extra income from this bump will not be going towards the NHS but instead dispersed into the Tories pockets by proxy. by Altecice (Fri 4th Feb 2022 3:49pm)
  • I've just checked and TalkTalk said its not available but BrawBand (terrible marketing aside) said it should be available for orders on the 28/12/22. by Altecice (Thu 1st Sep 2022 12:22pm)
  • cancel it and sign up with someone else in the house as a new customer and get back to ~£18 for 3 years again. by Altecice (Thu 1st Sep 2022 2:07pm)
  • BrawBand are doing 1gig for £49. by Altecice (Thu 1st Sep 2022 10:10pm)
  • I have no reference; I actually assumed the page you linked was only for moving address. I've now signed up as moving *to* the area. Thank you! by Altecice (Mon 10th Oct 2022 9:51pm)
  • I don't believe many energy companies are offering fixed rates at the moment due to the volatility of the prices. They will put you on a variable and that's all you can really do for the moment. by Altecice (Thu 27th Oct 2022 2:48pm)

  • Depends, highly desirable locations are going to be more sought after and still go for well over. Like a few have said, the listed price normally does not equal the home report (maximum mortgageable amount). when I was buying 4 months ago in the south side I disregarded the "offers over" value and started from the home report & bid over that price. by Altecice (Sat 11th Feb 2023 7:46pm)
  • Yup, school was awful for me but college/uni was a total 180. I was studying things I was interested in, with likeminded people (easy to make life long friends) and the teachers treat you as an adult. Do it! by Altecice (Wed 12th Jul 2023 11:50am)
  • Pretty good I did my HND then moved onto my degree and masters. I now work with cloud technologies for a global company and get paid far above the average income for Scotland. A few things are very hot at the moment, I’d advise looking into Cloud, Dev (coding), or Big data. You will also want to get a handle on basic DevOps practices and technologies such as Teraform and JSON. Even a basic understanding of the concepts will make you stand out. by Altecice (Wed 22nd Nov 2023 11:59pm)
  • If you fancy messing around with some hardware then look into PiHole. It can run on almost anything, its free, and you use it as your DNS server to block adds on any device connected to your network. https://pi-hole.net/ If you're feeling adventurous you can pair it with a personal VPN and continue to block adds on your devices outside. by Altecice (Fri 24th Nov 2023 3:04pm)
  • If you're looking for a good tutorial then check out this one, it covers installing Pihole and Unbound. https://www.crosstalksolutions.com/the-worlds-greatest-pi-hole-and-unbound-tutorial-2023/#:~:text=You'll%20have%20to%20set,Modify%20DNS%20settings%20manually. by Altecice (Fri 24th Nov 2023 4:35pm)
