  • Judging by what other people have said, I wouldn't do it. I've not lived in the City ever (I'm from Ayrshire!) but I've stayed in the Rennie Mackintosh on Union Street, somebody came into our room as we had the door unlocked to try and nick some of our stuff. They seen us and ran. I love Glasgow, I really do but it seems the City Centre is getting worse by the day, particularly around Central Station and the council seem to be doing nothing about it. I wouldn't do it, the place around Central Station is an absolute tip. by AnnelyseAdair (Fri 29th Jan 2021 4:10am)
  • Paisley is quite nice in some of the suburbs, but definitely avoid the likes of Foxbar, Ferguslie etc. The Town Centre has absolutely nothing in it in anymore, but the transport links are outstanding. Remember, you’ve also got the airport a stones throw away and the coast is about half an hour on the train. by AnnelyseAdair (Sat 13th Feb 2021 6:34am)
  • It was lovely, then my fantasy was spoiled by a junkie shouting at someone underneath Central Station. by AnnelyseAdair (Wed 28th Apr 2021 11:41am)
  • The only annoyance for me is the last train times at the minute. Scotrail seem to think the last trains being around 8pm is an acceptable way to go about things. by AnnelyseAdair (Wed 28th Apr 2021 7:52pm)
  • I agree with all this. I find the Merchant City around Brunswick Street to be slightly pleasant and relatively vibrant. I do think Glasgow could do with better spaces, but given the horror stories I’ve heard about GCC (im from Ayrshire) by AnnelyseAdair (Wed 28th Apr 2021 7:51pm)
  • the walking dead, that’s brilliant I’ve always wondered what attracts the junkies to Gordon Street... by AnnelyseAdair (Wed 28th Apr 2021 8:53pm)
  • Definitely try a weekday. Though due to the cracks you should definitely try and avoid the line via Falkirk, they are the busiest and might have a reduction in carriages. However, if you get the train from Queen Street Lower Level, from my experience the one via Bathgate is much quieter. by AnnelyseAdair (Thu 13th May 2021 11:17pm)
  • It's a shame to see all this. We've put in so much effort and made so many sacrifices to get out of lockdown. The inevitable spike that's going to rise from the shitshow yesterday makes me think it was a good call keeping Glasgow in Level 3. by AnnelyseAdair (Sun 16th May 2021 2:26pm)
  • Not all of Glasgow like this, it’s probably just the part you are living like the others have said. If it gets any worse, you should maybe look into moving to another area of Glasgow? by AnnelyseAdair (Tue 18th May 2021 10:11am)
  • So basically it’s gonna be more grease than actual food? 🤢 by AnnelyseAdair (Tue 18th May 2021 2:23pm)
  • Try the X36 bus. However, leave slightly earlier as it has a tendency to get caught in traffic on the M8. It’a much cheaper than the train, especially during peaks. I used it to get to City of Glasgow College from Saltcoats, it was a lifesaver in terms of costs. by AnnelyseAdair (Wed 26th May 2021 3:45am)
  • During lockdowns and restrictions, it was somewhat bearable as you were guaranteed the seat next to you to be empty due to distancing requirements, with seats taken out in front meaning you had some more space. All the seats are back in now and the coach gets very busy from Manchester, as others can sit next to you. I’d take the train down. Or if you want to take the coach, Flixbus have started up with single fares from £10, and you can pay £2.50 each way to ensure the seat next to you is unoccupied. EDIT: Flixbus don’t run on Tuesday nights. by AnnelyseAdair (Tue 20th Jul 2021 2:41am)
  • Urghhhhhhhh. This is really annoying now. The City Centre is havoc at the minute. by AnnelyseAdair (Sun 1st Aug 2021 9:53pm)
  • How long is filming going to last? I haven’t taken a bus into the City Centre in ages because it’s not clear where they will actually stop... by AnnelyseAdair (Sun 1st Aug 2021 9:50pm)
  • The line is now completely closed off with nothing running through Queen Street Low Level at all. Sad incident. by AnnelyseAdair (Sat 16th Oct 2021 6:41pm)
  • I'm going to be actively avoiding Glasgow for the duration of COP26 for multiple reasons; 1. Train and possible Stagecoach bus strikes meaning I can't get to Glasgow from Ayrshire anyway. 2. Road closures meaning that the area will be chaos 3. It'll just be chaos all around. by AnnelyseAdair (Sat 16th Oct 2021 7:23pm)
  • God what is happening to Glasgow. It can’t just be me that thinks these attacks and stabbings are getting more and more common. It’s scary. The boy was so young and my heart goes out to his parents. by AnnelyseAdair (Sun 17th Oct 2021 2:28am)
  • I’d avoid GlasGO cabs like the plague. Someone I know had an issue with the driver being extremely creepy, driving on their phone and taking them away from where they needed to go. The taxi situation isn’t too bad in North Ayrshire, but they don’t pick up at the train station in Saltcoats as there is a rank there, but you could be waiting ages. There seems to be a shortage everywhere. by AnnelyseAdair (Sun 17th Oct 2021 2:25am)
  • Who says i’m wetting the bed? If it’s really not bad then why have I been seeing so many reports over the last week of attacks in Glasgow? Attack on a train in Bellgrove in broad daylight on Friday? Guy assaulted on Hope Street last week? And on the very same day of the one in Bellgrove a cyclist got assaulted in Sauchiehall Street. Definitely sounds like it’s getting more common. Granted it’s only 3, but the fact that these all happened within a week, as well as gang violence in East Kilbride is scary. by AnnelyseAdair (Sun 17th Oct 2021 4:55am)
  • I live just up the road from Sharphill. It’s really sad to see. by AnnelyseAdair (Wed 20th Oct 2021 11:37pm)
  • Four homes being demolished in Saltcoats because of a sinkhole too. There was recently one found in Springside, North Ayrshire on the road to Crosshouse. It can’t just be me that thinks there is a rather large amount of sinkholes popping up lately? by AnnelyseAdair (Wed 20th Oct 2021 11:37pm)
  • Its scary and imo it doesn't bode well for the next few years. It seems to be recently that there was an uncomfortable amount of sinkholes popping up all over the place. Perhaps its time to start putting extra surveillance on areas of concern? by AnnelyseAdair (Thu 21st Oct 2021 6:12pm)
  • How did they get the specifics on the deadline? I’m not sure what to believe since I’ve heard 6 years, 10 years and 5 years. I do get the message behind this, but I do think that this will scare people more than cause them to help. by AnnelyseAdair (Tue 26th Oct 2021 6:18pm)
  • there goes my excuse for pulling a sickie with college 😆 by AnnelyseAdair (Wed 27th Oct 2021 8:40pm)
  • Honestly, sometimes you do forget that there is a second person on the train particularly after 9pm since they don't bother walking through. by AnnelyseAdair (Wed 27th Oct 2021 8:46pm)
  • It was hectic on the 9s a few weeks ago. Had a First ticket and checked the app to see how long it would be, said a 9A was due in 4 minutes, didn’t come. Said a 9 was due in 10 minutes which didn’t come, eventually one showed up and it was packed. Stagecoach’s app seems to be much more accurate. by AnnelyseAdair (Fri 12th Nov 2021 4:45pm)
  • If the ticket person gets arsey you can always say you boarded an earlier train and got off at said station. They can’t argue with that as you are within rights to split your journey at any valid station en route. You’ll be fine. by AnnelyseAdair (Sat 13th Nov 2021 6:53pm)
  • Honestly this. I’m 21 and I really don’t like how people my age behave. by AnnelyseAdair (Fri 8th Apr 2022 10:19pm)
  • I’m in my 20s and I do see the cliquey and bitchy thing, particularly at the likes of Polo or AXM. Definitely try Underground or Katie’s. Good music, good staff. by AnnelyseAdair (Fri 8th Apr 2022 10:17pm)
  • Can vouch for Gallery. It’s my go-to. by AnnelyseAdair (Fri 8th Apr 2022 10:15pm)
  • I’m really sorry to hear that. :( I’m always looking for more friends so if you ever want to go for a few, let me know. I find the people I meet tend to be friendly enough, but some can be catty and think being a bitch is a personality trait. by AnnelyseAdair (Fri 8th Apr 2022 10:15pm)
  • Buses for me it is. My last weekday train being 1945 all the way to Saltcoats is a joke. by AnnelyseAdair (Thu 19th May 2022 4:54pm)
