  • aha aw that's very sweet that you left a message. aye would be a shame if they closed down but perhaps unsurprising by BatmansFart (Fri 8th Jan 2021 12:26pm)
  • Hello, so me and my partner are in a similar situation to OP (luckily the mould is just in our bathroom though); I've been thinking of withholding rent, can you confirm we won't be evicted if we do? I'm at my wit's end trying to sort it! by BatmansFart (Mon 26th Sep 2022 5:03pm)
  • No but I will! Thanks for your reply :) by BatmansFart (Mon 26th Sep 2022 7:13pm)
  • Hey, thanks for your reply. A few months ago, our landlord found someone to fix our faulty shower, and the same guy was meant to retile the bathroom (tiles are loose) and remove the mould, but that fell through. Due to my pestering the landlord is now in contact with someone else, but I'm worried he's just planning to get someone to paint over the mould rather than properly fix it. Also, I first mentioned the mould to him in March this year, so he's known for ages. I can't help but think months will pass again and there will have been no progress. Not sure if he's registered; will have to look that up. We do have alarms that he bought (though we had to put them up). The windows are dodgy/broken with almost no insulation, which I have mentioned but it's just not a priority right now with the mould. We also didn't pay a deposit, which will make it easier to move out (may be sooner rather than later), but as you say that's not easy at the moment. Do you think the council could help in terms of making him commit to a long-term solution, rather than cheap short-term ones? I feel like no one wants to carry out the work because he's not willing to solve the problem properly. by BatmansFart (Mon 26th Sep 2022 7:50pm)
  • Cheers thanks for the advice and resources x by BatmansFart (Mon 26th Sep 2022 8:33pm)
  • Yeah true, I was hoping to speed up the process by finding quotes but I'm realising now that no one's going to take up the job unless they see the landlord committed to fixing it/paying up. by BatmansFart (Mon 26th Sep 2022 8:36pm)
  • Joined them and emailed them, heard great things! Thanks for the advice :) by BatmansFart (Mon 26th Sep 2022 9:03pm)
  • Aye it's giving me a proper stress headache! Cheers pal by BatmansFart (Mon 26th Sep 2022 9:07pm)
  • Absolutely fair advice. The answer is that the location is ideal for me (about to start my PhD at Glasgow Uni, which is a 10 min walk away) and the rent is cheap for the area. I guess it's cheap for a reason 😕 Realistically I think we will be looking to move soon though. As you say, the stress headache this is giving me is not worth it. by BatmansFart (Mon 26th Sep 2022 11:39pm)
  • Yeah I've tried special black mould removal spray but the MouldPro guy said there was damp in the walls behind the tiling, so it's just not going to be enough. Thanks for the well-wishing! by BatmansFart (Mon 26th Sep 2022 11:43pm)
  • Nooo, sad that this sounds familiar to you though! Are you still renting from Mr Khan or have you escaped? by BatmansFart (Tue 27th Sep 2022 9:04am)
  • Sad to hear you're still in the process of finding a new home, but happy that you're out of your old situation. Thanks so much for your advice and I hope you find somewhere safe and warm to call your own soon! by BatmansFart (Tue 27th Sep 2022 9:16pm)
  • Thanks, this is really helpful. I was considering student services but wasn't sure what they could do - but back-up support is always helpful. Good luck with potentially starting your PhD next year! by BatmansFart (Fri 27th Jan 2023 8:37am)
  • Hey, thanks for your reply. I tried to use my journal but it says I can't because my claim is closed. Seems there are other avenues for me to go down though so I'm hoping it'll get sorted by BatmansFart (Fri 27th Jan 2023 8:35am)
  • Hey, just a wee update - I got a call from DWP and it's been sorted! No overpayment due! Thanks to those who commented with advice :) by BatmansFart (Wed 1st Feb 2023 1:42pm)
  • Ah fab! Yeah think that's the one - thanks for the heads up :) by BatmansFart (Sat 11th Mar 2023 12:05am)
