Interests:

  • Glasgow desperately needs bus franchising, like London, and integrated ticketing with a daily price capped smartcard, similar to the Oyster card. The council loves to cosy up to the private operators though, so it's doubtful that'll ever happen. by Bluealpaca1997 (Sun 10th Jan 2021 11:17pm)
  • The only way this will happen is if everyone puts enough pressure on their local councillors. I don't live in Glasgow but everyone who does should write to their councillor using the template provided. The momentum happening right now in Manchester, where bus franchising is set to be approved by the end of the month, and the National Bus Strategy just published for England just adds to the pressure. The time for excuses is over. by Bluealpaca1997 (Mon 15th Mar 2021 3:04pm)
  • The legal powers exist for councils to introduce bus franchising since the passage of the Transport (Scotland) Act 2019 :) I want to have hope things will change now that there's clear UK-wide momentum. The mayor of Greater Manchester is expected to sign off on bus franchising later today, and the recent National Bus Strategy for England is another very welcome scheme that will hopefully work. The era of privatised and deregulated public transport is (albeit slowly) coming to an end, and I couldn't be happier about that. by Bluealpaca1997 (Tue 23rd Mar 2021 3:16pm)
  • How is an integrated, publicly controlled transport system with co-ordinated planning and a smartcard for all bus, subway, and rail travel across Strathclyde *not* something to be excited about?! Compare First Bus to Lothian Buses in Edinburgh or London's buses. There's no contest. Glasgow *needs* this integrated network. It's not sexy to the general public the way a grand, sleek, new metro system would be, but that isn't a realistic and sustainable idea right now. It's massively expensive for less return. This SPT plan **is** ambitious. by Bluealpaca1997 (Tue 23rd Mar 2021 3:31pm)
  • I'd take Lothian Buses over First Bus any day of the week. Plus Edinburgh has integrated ticketing with the trams that are beng extended. by Bluealpaca1997 (Thu 1st Apr 2021 5:54pm)
  • If only GCC had the world's greatest ambition for infrastructure :( by Bluealpaca1997 (Thu 1st Apr 2021 6:04pm)
