  • Hillhead is right on the subway system so it's easy to get into the city centre, so that's a plus point. There's some breweries in the city that are good to visit, but whiskey tours are mostly in the rural areas further north. Only a few hours drive but it's worth it for the scenery in the Spring/Summer. My friend came over from Palo Alto 2 years ago for a few days and had a good time, so hopefully you'll enjoy yourself. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Mon 14th Jan 2019 11:15pm)
  • You got one too then? Never actually got one of these through the door, shows how invested the owner is in the whole thing. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Fri 18th Jan 2019 10:57pm)
  • The National on the Tuesday. Bought a ticket for me, my pal and my girlfriend. My pal also got me a ticket for the Legends of Hip Hop gig at the Hydro. So that's me skint for the next few weeks. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Fri 25th Jan 2019 1:24pm)
  • Yeah the lineup is great, but Christ gigs at the Hyrdo are fucking expensive. Also bought tickets for the National for me and my pals on the same day. ;( by Dtoid_Ali_D (Mon 28th Jan 2019 11:18pm)
  • I just thought that Benihana was just a move in the Tony Hawk games...? by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sat 23rd Feb 2019 4:36pm)
  • It's always been really good. There's a grassroots music culture here that's always active, the local scenes seem really supportive. I suppose it's cheaper to live here than a lot of major cities in the UK, so that helps. There's tonnes of venues at all sizes, even with the ABC being damaged in the Art School Fire. There's plenty of venues that will book new bands as well. Glasgow's also been awarded a UNESCO City of Music award if you want something more official. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Tue 19th Mar 2019 6:36pm)
  • It's got to the point where I got rid of the blue Craghoppers waterproof jacket my folks got me. No sense in owning a jacket that's old firm colours. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 31st Mar 2019 10:54pm)
  • One of the last old firm games, I was walking down the Marriott at the Kingston bridge and a guy hanging out a taxi wearing a Celtic scarf was shouting "fucking orange cunt" as he sped by me. So yeah, most folk aren't pricks but there's plenty that are. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Mon 1st Apr 2019 9:12am)
  • I never went to the original (I was 11 at the time) but my mate at school said his older brother went and actually pissed himself. Could have been making it up by I choose to believe it. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sat 20th Apr 2019 5:31pm)

  • Happened to me when I moved back from Australia. I was told I was even disqualified for some jobs because I'd lived abroad for a few years. I got a job when a bank was recruiting large groups of people. Try and keep an eye out for companies needing lots of people for a project or something like that. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sat 22nd Jun 2019 12:16am)
  • I really like Drury street but I will say the toilets are absolutely shocking in there. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Tue 2nd Jul 2019 8:20pm)

  • I had literally zero success using a variety of sites but I'm not much to look at. Couple of friends have had varying degrees of success but there's no dead certs. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Wed 3rd Jul 2019 7:27pm)

  • Yeah, Tuesday was bucketing it down but there wasn't any inkling it was gonna be cancelled. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Fri 9th Aug 2019 9:11am)
  • Yeah, I remember it being brought up as one of the first big "media scares" in the UK. How kids were reading comic books and how they all got it into their heads that there was a vampire in the necropolis. Think there's a book or comic about it. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 11th Aug 2019 12:44pm)
  • There's a Call of Cthulhu RPG book called Shadows over Scotland. It's based in the 30's but some of the historic and geographic details about Glasgow still hold true. Aside from that, Glasgow is a post-industrial city, similar to places like Newcastle and Manchester. It's got problems when it comes to health, drugs and suicide. The weather is shite and people tend to be a bit miserable and dark humoured. There's wealthy parts to the city and really deprived parts and they tend to be really close together. Stand out places would be like the Universitys, the Necropolis (there's 3 in the city), venues like The Barrowlands and King Tuts. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 11th Aug 2019 6:34pm)
  • Had a quick scan and no luck. It's the physical copy I got myself, but yeah £30 for a hardback rule book is kinda standard now, it's still a fair bit of cash. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 11th Aug 2019 8:21pm)
  • This book might be a shout too, it's got an extensive list of local urban legends and stories. Bit cheaper: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Guide-Mysterious-Glasgow-Geoff-Holder/dp/0752448269/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=mysterious+glasgow&qid=1565556754&s=gateway&sr=8-1 by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 11th Aug 2019 9:53pm)
  • Drury street. You'll probably need to book a table and it will be busy, but I know they do board games through the week. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Tue 13th Aug 2019 10:41pm)
  • I once sent over a pack of sweets and biscuits to my friend in Ohio and she was raving about the chocolate hob nobs I included. Also, Gold bars are mad underrated. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Wed 14th Aug 2019 6:25pm)
  • No, it's a new building for Barclays. They're moving a bunch of jobs up here. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sat 17th Aug 2019 1:05pm)
  • Yeah, can see it from my place. Looks like it's just behind Springfield Quay, probably in those industrial units on the other side of the road. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 25th Aug 2019 8:11pm)
  • Denise Mina's stuff is good, she even did a run on Hellblazer which was fun. Stuart MacBride's "Halfhead" is a sci-fi story set in dystopian Glasgow, it's worth a read. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 25th Aug 2019 9:42pm)
  • I mean it's fine. Like is there anything specifc you want to know? by Dtoid_Ali_D (Wed 28th Aug 2019 9:49pm)
  • Berkley Suite is really good, few times I've been there have been great. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Thu 29th Aug 2019 8:13pm)
  • I mean, I think the things Glasgow natives would say the best things are about the city are maybe the nightlife and the music scene. It's just a thing where if you live and work in a place most of your life, it's hard to get a handle on what makes it good or not. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Thu 29th Aug 2019 9:31pm)
  • I'd say so. When I'm out with friends, we're buying rounds so it doesn't tend to be expensive. There's places you can get into for a late night that don't charge a price at the door, so that's a bonus too. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Thu 29th Aug 2019 9:38pm)
  • If I won like a serious amount of money on the lottery, I'd buy these wanks a boat and say "on you go, find the end of the world then". And wait for them to find reasons why they can't. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 8th Sep 2019 6:27pm)
  • Probably be the only reality TV I'd watch. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 8th Sep 2019 6:42pm)
  • A lot of the museums and art galleries are free to get into, you're just asked for a donation if possible, so they're always a good option. To be honest, you can see probably everything in Glasgow in just 2 or 3 days, so there's no need to rush. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 8th Sep 2019 11:11pm)
  • Probably caused by that hurricane that hit the US East coast recently, they tend to break up over the Atlantic and give us some shite weather. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sat 14th Sep 2019 8:57pm)

  • There was a VICE article about the Digger years ago, and I remember that someone who used to work on the mag said that the main guy that runs it just sees everyone as a total criminal scumbag. Like, people with addiction problems or in an abusive relationship..... all just scum in this guy's eyes. Would explain a lot. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Wed 13th Nov 2019 7:46pm)
  • I can't say for St. Luke's specifically but I check the social media feeds for either the band or venue the gig is at, most times they'll post a time for support and main acts. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 1st Dec 2019 8:59pm)

  • All good thanks. Told to evacuate but it was mainly due to the smoke. Apparently everyone is unharmed but I'm staying the night at my folks. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Mon 9th Dec 2019 11:37pm)
  • Like once or twice a year but it's not usually a big deal unless you're outside the city, somewhere like East Kilbride or Cumbernauld. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sat 18th Jan 2020 5:30pm)
  • Was a gorgeous sunset tonight. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 19th Jan 2020 7:22pm)

  • You ever seen those Raymond Depardon photos of Glasgow in 1980. Looks fucking grim: [https://youtu.be/EB3rr\_wmHsE](https://youtu.be/EB3rr_wmHsE) by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sat 11th Apr 2020 12:41am)
  • Yeah, it's a slow film for sure, but it's interesting to see Glasgow round about the time I was born. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Fri 17th Apr 2020 4:54pm)
  • There was a guy I knew years ago who was an extra in Unleashed. He told us about the scene he was in, and I was all ready to spot him, but because he was in the background, he wasn't in focus. I only realised it was him from how he told us he'd be dressed. Gutted. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 19th Apr 2020 12:12pm)
  • I don't live that close, but noise from the expressway isn't that big a deal. To be honest, you'd have more noise from the 24 hour McDonalds across the street. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 19th Apr 2020 12:37pm)
  • I was wondering who the fuck was yelling this morning. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 26th Apr 2020 10:33am)
  • Ox and Finch have offers on itison, haven't tried the takeaway myself but I've liked the restaurant when I was there. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Fri 10th Jul 2020 6:41pm)
  • I was enjoying at the start but the isolation has really got to me. I live on my own and apart from going to the shop across the street, I barely even see anyone. One of my friends passed away suddenly and that made things even worse. I always walked to work, only takes me about half an hour and that gets me an hour's exercise in a day. The computers in the office are better than the laptop I've got at home with me. I've had to re-arrange my furniture so I can work in the living room, 'cos I was finding hard just working in my spare room, then being on my regular PC all night at the same desk. I get that there's lots of advantages for people with a commute, folk with kids but that's not really my situation. I mean I think I'm the only person in my team that even feels this way. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Tue 14th Jul 2020 8:12pm)
  • Something else I just thought of; I probably wouldn't find it bad working from home if I was at least going out to pubs and gigs and things like that. It wouldn't feel so isolating if I just happened to be working at home in normal circumstances. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Tue 14th Jul 2020 9:22pm)
  • I'm getting there, it's still a bit of a shock. Thanks though. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Tue 14th Jul 2020 11:10pm)
  • Most big online grocery shops are doing online bookings for a home delivery. It'll just depend on where you're living. If you go on the ASDA or Sainsbury's websites, you can browse what they have without actually having to make a delivery booking. I've been getting Sainsbury's to deliver to me for months now with no issues. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Mon 20th Jul 2020 10:39am)

  • Some supermarkets like Morrisons and Co-Op do deliveries through the Deliveroo app. The range of groceries isn't massive but you can get your food really quickly which is a plus. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Fri 23rd Oct 2020 8:04pm)

  • Think if you come from a Commonwealth country like Canada, or Australia and New Zealand, folk here won't bat an eyelid. My mate's from New Zealand and he's never had any grief as far as I can tell. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 28th Feb 2021 8:30pm)
  • I can't remember where I saw it but there was an article online recently about how a delivery app in the USA was letting people order from a bunch of different restaurants that didn't really exist. All the food was coming from 1 kitchen in an industrial unit. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Tue 30th Mar 2021 6:01pm)
  • Ah nae bother, it could be, I canne remember the full details. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Tue 30th Mar 2021 7:47pm)
  • I've read that too, it's pretty pulp sci-fi but it's decent. The main story is a cop chasing some super sexy serial killer but with all this near future tech around. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Wed 7th Apr 2021 5:47pm)
  • The pair of roundabouts along the road from Scotstoun stadium, by the park.... must be some better way that those 2 mini rounabouts right next to each other. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Wed 28th Apr 2021 10:09pm)

  • Cool, I'll definitely check it out once I'm organised. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Fri 10th Sep 2021 1:55pm)
  • Yeah, I'm feeling the same. So much of my socialising was going out after work with a bunch of people for food or drinks. Now we're working from home all the time, the opportunities have all dried up. The other comments here about meetups, clubs and things like that are spot on. I think the problem is breaking the habit of being alone and isolated by Dtoid_Ali_D (Thu 7th Oct 2021 11:45am)
  • Christ, yeah that must make it even worse. I'm not saying going out and partying is gonna make always make that feel better, but I've recognised part of the problem is the lack of having anything to look forward to. I used to go to lots of gigs and concerts, parties, work nights out... all that stuff went away and was just replaced with "when's lockdown gonna end"? by Dtoid_Ali_D (Thu 7th Oct 2021 12:03pm)
  • Yeah, my folks don't even live in either city and they said their smallish local Tesco has been rebranded into an Express one and the prices have gone up because of that. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Fri 5th Nov 2021 12:56pm)
  • The thing with Hyperoptic is that their fibre network isn't the same one that other ISPs are using. So they can't just hook it up with the existing cabling if it's present. I had an engineer out to my flat, which is a newer build. I knew someone in the building had Hyperoptic cos I could see the name on the available wifi networks on my laptop. My installation was pretty easy. The cables got put through a maintenance pipe, then a hole got drilled in my boiler cupboard and then through to my living room. Was really quick and painless to be honest. Speed is unreal. I went from 10-11mbps to just under 500mbs down and like 400 up. Can download a big game off steam in like a few minutes. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Tue 9th Nov 2021 12:12pm)
  • Ah, that does jog my memory a bit. It's been so long since I've even been there, think I'll need to have a visit. Cheers. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 14th Nov 2021 6:02pm)
  • 500mb fibre only. £35 a month but it goes up to £50 after a year. Considering I was paying £12 a month for 12mb, it's worth the price. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Tue 16th Nov 2021 8:08pm)
  • To be honest I'm glad folk are sharing pics. I'm working from home with my back to the window, and I had gotten up at some point and saw how nice it was getting. Got back to work and when I turned round again it was dark 😒 by Dtoid_Ali_D (Mon 22nd Nov 2021 5:43pm)

  • Whoo! Looking forward to my bins getting emptied once a month now. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Tue 25th Jan 2022 8:47pm)

  • I wish there was rain protection but you're out of luck. I saw the National there a few years ago and it was absolutely torrential. They handed out these plastic ponchos that did fuck all and you weren't allowed to have umbrellas up. There's barriers put up alongside the road so you're not gonna be able to see it. You'll be able to hear it fine though. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sat 28th May 2022 3:42pm)

  • I got a fully remote job earlier in the year, my boss said there's no point me going in the office as there's no one else in my department near Glasgow, so there's no point. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Thu 18th Aug 2022 8:59pm)
  • If you're fit looking, it's easy pickings no matter what app you use. Not speaking from my own experience of course... by Dtoid_Ali_D (Fri 9th Sep 2022 11:47am)
  • I go where the band's I like are playing. That could be the Hydro or it could be something small like Audio or The Hug and Pint. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Thu 29th Sep 2022 6:33pm)
  • 6:30pm is probably doors open. My guess would be support is on at 7:30pm, play for maybe an hour, then main act on at like 9pm, probably finish by 10:30pm. Those are rough times, each venue is different and I haven't seen anyone at the Hydro in years, so I can't remember what the times were like when I went. No idea about food, probably a bit pricier than what you'd get elsewhere. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Mon 24th Oct 2022 9:02pm)

  • Fight broke out at a Wilco gig next to me at the Royal Concert hall during the first song. The place doesn't have proper security, just wee old ladies that show you to your seat. People had to jump in and pull them apart. Band had to even stop playing whilst it got sorted. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Fri 14th Apr 2023 10:53am)
  • Yeah, apps are a nightmare that just end up being soul crushing. Other problem is with folk like me who work at home all the time, combined with the cost of a night out going up, I barely go out at all now. Never been the type of guy to go out "on the pull" so I'm left wondering what my options are. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Mon 15th May 2023 9:05am)
  • Yeah, I've been fully remote but my work is gonna start making us go in 2 days a week at the end of Summer. Even though I'm the only person in my whole department in Glasgow. Gonna look for something different before that happens. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Mon 15th May 2023 12:42pm)
  • I wouldn't have a problem with any kind of structured learning, training or collaboration sessions where there's goals and aims that we can work towards. Thing is, my company are framing it all as spontaneous collaboration. Like you bump into someone at the sink and you chat about what you're up to and build something from that. But in my experience, that hardly happens. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Mon 15th May 2023 2:00pm)
  • Is that the same government that blamed people not being able to afford a house on the fact they spent too much money on fancy coffees and city centre lunches. Now we're told we're being selfish by not going to Starbucks and Greggs enough 🙄 I'm being flippant and I'm not cheering at folk losing their jobs at places like that, but it comes across more as an older generation not realising the world changed because of the lockdown. And putting things back the way they were won't somehow make it all "better". by Dtoid_Ali_D (Mon 15th May 2023 2:05pm)
  • Ah, it's fine. I'm minging so I never get any matches anyway. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Mon 15th May 2023 10:50pm)

  • It's no great, but I'm struggling to think of a chippy that's much better in the city centre. Tend to get something out the kebab shops late at night instead. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Wed 24th May 2023 3:08pm)

  • Honestly, guys are so dumb that if you approached them at a bar or gig, they'd be interested in you straight away. I'm a guy and if a woman came up to me at a gig I would be so impressed. Just go for it by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 25th Jun 2023 3:58pm)
  • I get what you mean. I don't go to gigs "on the pull" necessarily, but sometimes I've gone to some gigs and just looked around and thought "oh wow, this crowd is nothing but guys who look like me. No wonder I never meet any women". by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 25th Jun 2023 4:26pm)
  • I have my earbuds on at high volume so I never hear any of them. Sure, I'll be deaf in 5 years but at least I won't be hearing anymore shitty Coldplay covers. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Fri 21st Jul 2023 2:17pm)
  • Think things haven't really gone back to the way they were before COVID lockdown. I used to go out after work a lot but since we can work from home that's hardly happened. Plus a lot of my mates have recently moved out of the city, so going out is less a priority now. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Mon 24th Jul 2023 3:45pm)
  • I took my dad here last year for his birthday, he loved it. He did the 737 and the instructor was really good. I got a deal on itison so have a look there. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Thu 27th Jul 2023 12:20pm)

  • Corner shop near me stopped selling it recently, is it still going? I did almost did buy a copy a few months ago when I saw some headline about some gangster's girlfriend denied working at a glory hole. That's the kind of trash reporting that I'm a sucker for. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Wed 29th Nov 2023 12:30pm)
  • My granny would boil brisket in her vegetable soup. That helped the soup taste amazing but I doubt anyone wants stringy, overcooked beef. by Dtoid_Ali_D (Sun 10th Dec 2023 9:31pm)
