  • Haha it’s legal in the UK! I know there’s a couple CBD shops in Edinburgh that sell buds rather than liquids but haven’t heard of it in Glasgow πŸ’” by GDEM95 (Tue 4th Jun 2019 9:30am)
  • Ah saaame, that is gutting. Guess I’ll need to make a wee trip to Edinburgh sometime. Thanks anyway by GDEM95 (Tue 4th Jun 2019 9:36am)
  • Nice one, cheers! by GDEM95 (Tue 4th Jun 2019 3:06pm)
  • Hahahah thanks man I’ll keep that in mind by GDEM95 (Wed 5th Jun 2019 11:25am)
  • You are a gem, thanks man! I’ll stop by on my way to work ☺️ by GDEM95 (Wed 5th Jun 2019 12:12pm)
  • Hahahhahahaha didn’t notice that, not even gonna edit it by GDEM95 (Tue 6th Aug 2019 10:19am)
  • Exactly what I’m looking for πŸ˜‚ cheeeeers by GDEM95 (Tue 6th Aug 2019 10:36am)
  • The head of branding has been keeping us all in check regarding the rules but thank you anyway!! Such a pain sometimes because TEDxGlasgowCaledonianUniversity is so long 😭 by GDEM95 (Tue 6th Aug 2019 10:36am)
  • Amazing thank you man!! by GDEM95 (Tue 6th Aug 2019 12:44pm)
  • Class, thank you!! by GDEM95 (Tue 6th Aug 2019 12:43pm)
  • I know 😭 think it would cost them too much to finance every TEDx event though. You get decent funding from the uni and sponsors though so shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Barras is a shout, will give that a go! by GDEM95 (Tue 6th Aug 2019 12:42pm)
  • The license holder is a GCU student who helped out at the TEDx events at Glasgow uni and Strathclyde and he wanted to run one for GCU too so he applied for it. This is the first year of it but I imagine it’ll be a yearly thing now. They’re talking of some semi-big names for the speakers but I don’t think as many speakers would be up for it if it was just some GCU conference by GDEM95 (Tue 6th Aug 2019 12:40pm)
  • We would have loved to! Would make the branding process easier but unfortunately it’s already been used by a uni in America so we’re not allowed. Thank you though! by GDEM95 (Tue 6th Aug 2019 12:47pm)

  • Hahahaha silver linings!! by GDEM95 (Tue 6th Aug 2019 12:50pm)
  • I’d say it definitely adds value yeah! I designed the sponsorship package that gets sent out to local businesses and a massive selling point within it is how your business is affiliated with/promoted by the brand. To be honest I’m not sure how many, if any, sponsors we’d get if the conference wasn’t a TEDx conference by GDEM95 (Tue 6th Aug 2019 1:07pm)
  • Nah, unfortunately not! If you want to run a TEDx event then you do the organising and whatnot yourself by GDEM95 (Tue 6th Aug 2019 2:18pm)
  • I couldn’t really give two shits about the annual leave side of this. I’ve got my holidays for the year planned and they’re not changing because some auld git popped her clogs. My problem lies with the forced unpaid leave. by GDEM95 (Mon 12th Sep 2022 5:59pm)
  • Appreciate the info. It doesn’t feel like it should be legal but somehow it is. Wild. by GDEM95 (Mon 12th Sep 2022 6:02pm)
  • We did, yeah. Just had a look at my contract, looks like they’re covered. Frustrating but legal. by GDEM95 (Mon 12th Sep 2022 6:21pm)
  • I’m not, but this is certainly motivation to get into one. by GDEM95 (Mon 12th Sep 2022 6:20pm)
  • My contract says I am entitled to 33 holidays per year, and that this is inclusive of 8 bank holidays. Pretty sure they’re sound from a legal standpoint, it’s just leaving a bad taste in a lot of employees’ mouths. Your work sounds class though, moving your day of grievance to conveniently land on your birthday would be lovely. by GDEM95 (Mon 12th Sep 2022 6:25pm)
  • There’s folk I’m working with that are currently working notice periods with no holidays left to take. What about them? by GDEM95 (Mon 12th Sep 2022 7:24pm)
  • That’s mad. You learn something new every day eh. by GDEM95 (Mon 12th Sep 2022 7:43pm)
  • Second this. Sandyford’s the place to go and all you can do regarding getting an appointment is check regularly. Set reminders on your phone for 9/10am and 4/5pm - Wednesday’s a good day for it. Once the appointments appear you should have it all sorted in under a month. Good luck pal by GDEM95 (Sun 16th Oct 2022 9:46am)
  • My gran is in her eighties and truly one of the most social people I know. A couple of things she does to maintain this: - Book club. She does enjoy reading but honestly I don’t think she reads most of the books they hand out, and I don’t think the other ladies do either. It seems like it’s more so an excuse for them all to get together every month and chat - Aquafit / Pilates / any excersize class that can be adapted for older folk. This one might be a bit more daunting so maybe it’s a good shout for you to join her initially and get her chatting to folk if she isn’t so outgoing herself - Neighbours. Some of my grans best friends seem to be her neighbours, which is always nice to hear about as they look after each others pets, sit out in their gardens together, etc. Tricky to initiate but well worth the effort - Bowling club. Like actual garden bowls, or whatever they’re called. Her husbands since passed, but used to be an avid bowler, and that meant she was just in the bowling club a lot chatting to folk. I’ve no doubt there’s a fair amount of older folk down there socialising who have no interest in actually playing - Travels solo. She takes bus tours or goes on cruises where there’s plenty of other older solo travellers who are keen to chat. It’s an easy way to get chatting as they’ve immediately got common ground Hope this helps. It’s heartbreaking watching older relatives live an isolated life, but I’m glad she’s got someone like you around her who’s keeping an eye on that πŸ’› by GDEM95 (Sat 13th May 2023 9:37am)
