  • I live in Anniesland which is very close to Knightswood and while I see planes all the time I never hear them by LibraryLover100 (Sun 21st Feb 2021 1:28pm)
  • At 12 I took the train to high school by myself every day. Most of the kids in my class were allowed to take the train into the city to go to the movies in small groups (though sadly not me). So, I'm not sure why this would attract any attention unless it was really late. Even then, they could just be underdeveloped 16 year olds. by LibraryLover100 (Mon 22nd Mar 2021 3:19pm)
  • Sounds like you live in a bad area. I've never had experiences like this and I've lived in a few different areas of Glasgow. Try moving if you can afford it. Good luck by LibraryLover100 (Tue 18th May 2021 10:10am)
  • I got a blue letter about a week ago. I was so excited. This is it! Turns out it was for the man who lived here four years ago. I wrote 'No longer at this address' on it and returned it to the postbox. No idea if it will reach him. By the way, in case you don't know there is a way to check when your appointment is if you think your letter is missing (I have done this now). Go to: [https://www.nhsinform.scot/covid-19-vaccine/invitations-and-appointments/missing-appointment-details](https://www.nhsinform.scot/covid-19-vaccine/invitations-and-appointments/missing-appointment-details) Click on Start Guide. It will take you through a series of steps. Then, if you have an appointment scheduled on the NHS calendar it will send you an email with the details by LibraryLover100 (Tue 25th May 2021 11:27am)
  • Yes, they were removed months ago where I live. You now have to use a large communal food waste bin which will probably be located wherever your nearest glass recycling is by LibraryLover100 (Mon 28th Jun 2021 7:18pm)
  • Thanks. The website is telling me that it is closed so I guess it's just a website issue by LibraryLover100 (Wed 30th Jun 2021 7:05pm)
  • My own costs are as a fellow single person living alone in Glasgow: Mortgage - £607 Electricity/gas - £54 Internet/Basic TV package - £48 Council tax band D (includes water in Scotland) - £138 Factoring fees (for building management of our block of flats - includes building insurance, stair cleaning/lighting, keeping the communal gardens, maintaining the roof) - £75 Please note that factoring fees (and sometimes other bills) may be included in the cost of your rent so you should check this with the landlord. Groceries - £140 Gym (The Gym group) - £16 Mobile (includes minutes, texts and mobile data - handset is paid for) - £18 Train (if offices return to normal and commute 5 days per week) - £58 Leisure - £344 Total - £1,502 So, basically I think you have underestimated a few things but overestimated others and your budget is pretty sound. Please note I live in a decent area. Would be possible to get a much cheaper rent in a less nice area by LibraryLover100 (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 5:18pm)
  • Yes. I'm not really even sure what else I would buy if I had more cash. I'd probably just save more into my pension by LibraryLover100 (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 7:14pm)
  • I live fairly near there. Would say it is a good area by LibraryLover100 (Sun 5th Sep 2021 12:19pm)
  • I'm sorry, when you said beef do you mean beef flavoured crackers or actual beef? by LibraryLover100 (Sat 25th Sep 2021 10:56am)
  • Wow, that's awful. My supermarket seems unaffected at the moment by LibraryLover100 (Sat 25th Sep 2021 12:46pm)
  • Definitely a scam by LibraryLover100 (Wed 29th Sep 2021 6:24pm)
  • Glad the event is happening but not looking forward to the business of public transport. Wonder what the chances are of convincing my boss to let me work at home for that two weeks? by LibraryLover100 (Fri 8th Oct 2021 12:40pm)
  • My work is just giving us the two weeks of the conference. Are we expecting disruption this week as well? by LibraryLover100 (Mon 25th Oct 2021 9:27am)
  • Good advice. I actually work for a big company. Might be a place to start by LibraryLover100 (Wed 27th Oct 2021 7:43pm)
  • That sounds ideal. I just hope there is a market for this in Glasgow by LibraryLover100 (Fri 29th Oct 2021 1:35pm)
  • Where they nice people? Did you enjoy having them stay or did you end up regretting it? by LibraryLover100 (Sat 13th Nov 2021 11:27am)
  • Definitely. That's how it started out. by LibraryLover100 (Sat 13th Nov 2021 11:26am)
  • That's amazing. What was their stay like? by LibraryLover100 (Sat 13th Nov 2021 11:25am)
  • I think a lot of places just do spot checks by LibraryLover100 (Wed 24th Nov 2021 12:21pm)
  • Eh, Monday to Friday lets work well for people who work in the city but live with a partner or family outside the city. I think £500 is more realistic for the area though. by LibraryLover100 (Wed 8th Dec 2021 9:44am)
  • Maybe the owner died and their relatives don't want their stuff? by LibraryLover100 (Sat 8th Jan 2022 3:31pm)
  • Hmm. I only have an undergraduate degree and my first job after Uni started at £20k which was ten years ago (so probably more than £22k in today's money). That being said I would expect the first 3 years after you graduate to have good salary increases each year as they are spending a lot of time training you by LibraryLover100 (Fri 28th Jan 2022 12:19pm)
  • I have a dining table in the living room. My parents have one in the kitchen. People with smaller homes may just sit in front of the TV rather than trying to squeeze a dining table in by LibraryLover100 (Sun 30th Jan 2022 10:57am)
  • The majority of people I know are Rangers fans (or come from Rangers families). Basically everyone my generation is pro independence. I literally didn't know until now that there was a stereotype that Rangers fans were against independence by LibraryLover100 (Tue 1st Feb 2022 5:24pm)
  • Meetup groups are good for meeting people socially, becoming friends and then dating. Mostly though I use Tinder. While the lack of filters and the number of blank profiles annoy me there is a large number of people and you know that they are looking for dates by LibraryLover100 (Thu 3rd Feb 2022 8:04pm)
  • Not really. I've not been in the city centre much recently but in my local supermarket there is almost 100% compliance by LibraryLover100 (Mon 7th Feb 2022 3:45pm)
  • First thing I would do is to talk to your neighbors about your energy bill. If theirs is much lower then I think you're is a mistake by LibraryLover100 (Fri 18th Feb 2022 2:35pm)
  • Ugh. I'm dreading hearing what mine will be (my 18 month flat rate is due for renewal at the end of the month). I've heard from several people who said their bills have doubled and one who said her bills have gone up four times (she is challenging hers as she thinks there must be a mistake). I've just taken in a new flatmate to help deal with it. Hopefully that will be enough by LibraryLover100 (Wed 6th Apr 2022 7:55am)
  • I had my first letter from them a few days ago. It was a campaign for Ukraine. I'd already given for this so I didn't bother. by LibraryLover100 (Thu 14th Apr 2022 9:00pm)
  • Hi. A similar thing happened to my brother. It wasn't a scam but the debt collection company had accidentally matched him with a guy of the same name who lived in Manchester (a place has never even visited). He first called the electricity company to make sure that they were not expecting money from home then later the debt collection company. It took a while to sort out but he got there in the end by LibraryLover100 (Thu 21st Apr 2022 1:07pm)
  • To be fair I don't think you would die from that height by LibraryLover100 (Sun 15th May 2022 3:49pm)
  • 60k is a great salary for working in Glasgow. We also have a large Indian community here. I know a few people who work for JP Morgan in Glasgow and the consensus is that they expect long hours when there is work to be done but that's true of most companies in the finance sector in the UK by LibraryLover100 (Thu 19th May 2022 12:13pm)
  • So, I think middle class means making at least national average wage. Last time I checked this was about 30k though it's probably higher now by LibraryLover100 (Tue 24th May 2022 9:42am)
  • It's actually on a pavement, not a wall. On the pavement on the far side of the Morrisons carpark. But yes, I agree. To be honest I feel like Morrisons should be doing something about it by LibraryLover100 (Mon 6th Jun 2022 9:07pm)
  • Hi. Very few people choose to wear masks (maybe one in five on the trains and less than this in the supermarkets where there is more space for social distancing). However, people will completely respect and understand your wish to wear a mask if you wish by LibraryLover100 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 12:10pm)
  • When I called the NHS two years ago about anxiety issues they said they would add me to the waiting list and it would be at least twelve weeks. Then my boss reminded me that I had private healthcare and sent me the phone no. I called them and they got me an appointment for the next day by LibraryLover100 (Wed 29th Jun 2022 5:18pm)
  • I enjoy hiking, reading, cooking, museums, art galleries, etc. by LibraryLover100 (Mon 18th Jul 2022 1:06pm)
  • Our workplace wants us to do at least 50% of the time on the office. Our direct competitors all ask for more in office time e.g. 4 days per week so I am happy with the current split by LibraryLover100 (Thu 18th Aug 2022 12:43pm)
  • DELETED I make £1800 per month approx after tax and pension contributions. I don't live near Byres Rd so I really don't struggle. I think that might be your main problem to be honest. I would suggest moving by LibraryLover100 (Thu 18th Aug 2022 9:02pm)
  • The Bothy, Ruthven Lane, just off Byres Rd by LibraryLover100 (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 12:53pm)
  • Hmm. That's a tough one. I don't worry about money. However I'm careful with money as a general principal because if you make average money and want to retire at a reasonable age then you have to be. by LibraryLover100 (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 1:16pm)
  • Eh, you're allowed to hope by LibraryLover100 (Tue 30th Aug 2022 10:06am)
  • After tax? Yes, absolutely. Before tax? You may want to consider flat sharing. I recommend Spare Room.com by LibraryLover100 (Thu 1st Sep 2022 6:06pm)
  • I have a gas boiler and live in a two bed. My direct debit has just changed to £115 per month and that is locked in for the next six months. However my building is less than twenty years old and I love on the top floor so I benefit from the neighbours heat rising. Older flats or ground floor flats will cost more. Prepayment meters cost more still by LibraryLover100 (Thu 8th Sep 2022 8:17am)
  • Average price for a decent one bed in Anniesland is about 135k. I think if you're seeing 70 or 80k anywhere in Glasgow the property is probably not structurally sound. I would suggest ordering the Home Report for each of these properties. There is a link on Right Move to let you do this and it is free to do so. This will give you both the real market value (instead of the Offers Over value) and the condition of the property (survey results will be attached) by LibraryLover100 (Fri 9th Sep 2022 4:54pm)
  • Classic FM is playing music without ads. It's been an improvement by LibraryLover100 (Sun 11th Sep 2022 2:30pm)
  • Loch Venachar circuit is great. Please note that there are a few small hills involved. Might be better to wait till later in the year to appreciate as the foliage is just starting to change colour by LibraryLover100 (Wed 14th Sep 2022 12:58pm)
  • Morrisons, Crow Rd is the same by LibraryLover100 (Tue 20th Sep 2022 7:49pm)
  • I think the business rates that businesses pay is their contribution towards street cleaning. I would hope (though I don't know for certain) that takeaways pay more than e.g. clothes shops which would not cause street litter by LibraryLover100 (Wed 21st Sep 2022 12:43pm)
  • Happy cake day! by LibraryLover100 (Sat 24th Sep 2022 8:19pm)
  • If I was talking to someone who lived in Glasgow or within twenty miles I wouldn't count any of these places as Glasgow. If I was talking to someone from Edinburgh I'd probably count all of these. If I was talking to a Londoner even Stirling would count. If I was talking to an American, even Edinburgh would count by LibraryLover100 (Thu 29th Sep 2022 9:58pm)
  • Pollockshields I skimmed over on the list. You guys count by LibraryLover100 (Thu 29th Sep 2022 11:00pm)

  • Also remember to ask questions about cleaning standards, quiet hours and number and frequency of guests when potential flatmates come for a viewing. There are articles on this on Spare Room.com by LibraryLover100 (Tue 22nd Nov 2022 1:29pm)
  • Exactly this! I rent out my spare room too on and off and people looking for a 2 for 1 deal is one of the biggest issues I come across when I am messaging to set up viewings by LibraryLover100 (Tue 22nd Nov 2022 1:37pm)
  • I've had good luck with contractors who are here for 6-12 months and moved from another city so they were long distance with their boyfriend by LibraryLover100 (Tue 22nd Nov 2022 1:40pm)

  • I had COVID at end of November/start of December then less than a week later I get a cold (the two were about the same). Last week we had four people off sick and four of us working while I'll (in a team of about a dozen). Look on the bright side though. At least we are not in China by LibraryLover100 (Wed 21st Dec 2022 1:08pm)
  • KRK on Woodlands Rd for Indian/Pakistani food. Imart Oriental on Crow Rd for Chinese/Japanese/Korean food by LibraryLover100 (Sun 15th Jan 2023 3:40pm)
  • Definitely not normal temperature. Room temperature should really be 18-21C for health and safety purposes. 16-18C is ok for sleeping as long as you are well wrapped up (colder temperature promotes better sleep). Please note that if you have gas you also have to ensure your heating is at least 13C to ensure your pipes don't burst (cold water temperature is usually 12C below whatever your room temperature is). If your pipes burst because your heating wasn't on on winter your landlord is likely to blame you for the damage by LibraryLover100 (Tue 17th Jan 2023 12:45pm)
  • Not sure. I used to buy a monthly (paper) ticket. Some months it worked just fine all through the month. Other months it failed every time I went through the barrier. Now, that I am in the office only 2-3 times per week I buy day tickets and use the app. This works most of the time. Just occasionally a purchased ticket doesn't show on the app. If this happens I just log out and log in again which fixes it by LibraryLover100 (Sat 28th Jan 2023 2:00pm)
  • You can go hillwalking in winter but you need crampons, an ice axe, winter hiking boots (most boots are three seasons boots), winter survival skills training and you should be in a group. Personally I stick to low level walks e.g. canal walks during winter by LibraryLover100 (Sat 4th Feb 2023 9:19am)
  • Thanks for the reply. That's kind of what I was thinking. I have seen people drive under half a pint but never two by LibraryLover100 (Sun 12th Feb 2023 8:25am)
  • Thanks. Yes, that's what I thought. Thanks by LibraryLover100 (Sun 12th Feb 2023 8:37am)
