  • You’re clearly too young to have been in it during its mid/late 2000’s heyday. by RubberSoldier (Wed 6th Feb 2019 10:53am)
  • You can’t have been in it often then. Had a totally different crowd and vibe to The Garage back then. And it was notoriously difficult to get in. by RubberSoldier (Wed 6th Feb 2019 6:11pm)
  • I have to tell people to be quiet at gigs on a regular basis. It’s fucking infuriating. Most recent time, went to see Amber Arcades in Mono, and there was a guy in his 50’s with his wife/partner He was actually shouting to be heard over the band, utterly inconsequential stuff as well. It was as if he thought he was just in the pub and the music was being piped in. Put up with for a couple of songs then turned round and said “Excuse me, can you keep your fucking voice down? I paid to listen to the band, not you talk shite” He looked bewildered as to why I was asking him, which was even more annoying. His partner looked mortified. Kept his trap shut for the rest of the gig though. I don’t understand why people feel it’s an ok thing to do. You and others have paid money to enjoy the music, have a bit of manners. by RubberSoldier (Sun 17th Feb 2019 11:54am)
  • As long as there’s ignorant bastards having full on conversations during sets I’ll be telling them to shut the fuck up. by RubberSoldier (Sun 17th Feb 2019 1:37pm)

  • Please don’t do this. The mountains of thrown away wellies you see at festivals and gigs like this go straight to landfill. Buy a decent pair and they’ll last you for years. by RubberSoldier (Sat 17th Aug 2019 11:57am)
  • King Park and Cessnock can feel a bit grim, but in general it’s fine. A taxi back there from the city or west end won’t cost a fortune if you’re that worried. Added bonus of living down there is that you can make The Old Toll Bar on Paisley Road West your local. Which I highly recommend you do. There’s also Fore Play Crazy golf nearby, a indoor 9 hole crazy golf course with a bar and street food stalls. Can even take your beers round with you. by RubberSoldier (Sat 17th Aug 2019 12:20pm)

  • It’s been a World Buffet for years now. by RubberSoldier (Sun 10th Nov 2019 9:05am)
  • Correct. Usually the starter things are ok, pakora, chicken chaat etc. But a curry that’s been cooked in the morning then sat in a big heated vat for hours? Be as well serving curried shoe. Take you as long to chew either. by RubberSoldier (Sun 10th Nov 2019 10:18am)
  • Broken Clock on Park Road is great. Amazing patisserie selection too. by RubberSoldier (Sun 17th Nov 2019 7:24pm)
  • I had a bike stolen from the landing in Wallace Street on a Saturday afternoon. Went out about 1, came back at 4 and the snipped bike chain was sitting wear the bike used to be. Bastards. by RubberSoldier (Sat 30th Nov 2019 9:13am)
  • Yeah I’m hindsight it wasn’t the best place to leave it. Worst thing is it wasn’t even my bike. Had only borrowed it from my brother for a couple of days. Was a decent bike as well, had to give him the money for it. Spent 8 years at Wallace Street, and this was the worst thing that happened, so not bad considering. Actually a brothel opened up on our landing for a while. That was pretty grim. by RubberSoldier (Sat 30th Nov 2019 12:33pm)
  • You should. Your countries full of braindead morons who voted in a Tory majority. by RubberSoldier (Sat 14th Dec 2019 10:51pm)
  • Down votes for calling people braindead for voting for the Tories. This sub is mental. by RubberSoldier (Sun 15th Dec 2019 8:26am)
  • The English, particularly the working class English, who voted Tory in this election did with one thing in mind. Brexit. That’s all they’re thinking about. They don’t care about , or more likely aren’t even aware of, the actual policies of the party they’ve just elected. Shut the borders and send those Poles back. I won’t apologise for thinking that’s braindead. Not when there people literally dying in the streets and millions of children living in poverty. by RubberSoldier (Sun 15th Dec 2019 9:24am)
  • So it’s irrelevant that the Turkeys in England voted for Christmas fuelled by xenophobia and hate? Aye right. I’m anti-Tory and anti working class Tory voter. Unashamedly so. by RubberSoldier (Sun 15th Dec 2019 9:43am)
  • Tbh your the one who sounds like fuckwit. Getting so wound up about someone else’s opinion on reddit. by RubberSoldier (Sun 15th Dec 2019 10:05am)
  • You’re right. What the independence movement needs is more pointless rallies in George Square. Wee wifies waving Saltires, weans with their face painted like Mel Gibson. Can’t wait for another year of that. That’ll definitely help us win this time. by RubberSoldier (Sun 15th Dec 2019 10:50am)
  • You know absolutely nothing. Imagine trying to argue with someone on the internet that they’re wrong to be angry about a Tory majority government, voted in by a surge in support from the working classes. Some brass neck on you. by RubberSoldier (Sun 15th Dec 2019 11:23am)

  • It’s a bizarre fashion trend amongst teenagers and folk in their early twenties. Jumper/jacket/body warmer, paired with a lovely little pair of shorts regardless of the weather. It’s fucking mental. by RubberSoldier (Tue 11th Feb 2020 5:08am)

Places to eat, in no particular order; Paesano Pizza, Bucks Bar (fried chicken) Ramen Dayo, The Ox & Finch, The Gannet, Stravaigin, Cali Bruich. • It’s not just their problem though is it? It’s everyone’s problem if they spread the virus. by RubberSoldier (Fri 15th May 2020 4:14pm)
  • It’s frustrating I know. I’m a self employed tradesman, not able to do my normal job just now, so I’ve take a job in a supermarket. Nights, stacking shelves. Absolutely fine to ride some over. But the vast majority of majority of colleagues seem to living in a parallel universe where the virus doesn’t exist. I tell people to get back, I make space, do what I can to follow the rules and try and make sure others do. Some people need told. by RubberSoldier (Fri 15th May 2020 4:31pm)

I’ve pretty much decided when the coming years bill arrives it’ll be get mailed back to them with a letter attached explaining why I won’t be paying until services improve. • Wasn’t just bought over, it was a hostile takeover. The guys who set it up got some investors on board to inject some money into the business, to help them expand a bit. The horrible bastards squeezed them out and took the business from them. Ruined it as well. • Only place in the UK that you can’t have a pint indoors. Shambles. by RubberSoldier (Fri 21st May 2021 1:00pm)
  • That’s not all it’s about and I’ll never understand people trying to reduce it to that. Glasgow’s been under the harshest restrictions for 8 months now. People are worn out. by RubberSoldier (Fri 21st May 2021 1:33pm)
  • It’s an easy comment to make to conflate the general feeling of remaining in L3. When people say they’re annoyed at not being able to have a pint inside they usually mean they’re annoyed at not being able to socialise freely. by RubberSoldier (Fri 21st May 2021 1:38pm)
  • 8 months of the hardest restrictions in the country extended and being disappointed about it is “bitching”. Wow. I can fly to Portugal to see friends and family but can’t go downstairs to the pub to, or drive to South Lanarkshire to see my parents. If you’re happy with that then maybe you should just stay inside forever. by RubberSoldier (Fri 21st May 2021 1:50pm)
  • I’m well aware of what we’re allowed to do. The reason we still have these restrictions is our shoddy last few months of the vaccine rollout and our lacklustre response to the whole pandemic in genera . It’s fallen on the people time and time again to do our duty because the governments have failed to do theirs. by RubberSoldier (Fri 21st May 2021 2:01pm)
  • I honestly can’t believe there isn’t a chippy that’s tried doing better quality pizza crunch’s. Every place just serves up those horrible frozen, thick based, lightly cheesed numbers. Imagine somewhere that does GOOD old school chippy pizza, but they also did that as pizza crunch? by RubberSoldier (Wed 26th May 2021 5:13am)
  • Oh aye. Are they any good? by RubberSoldier (Wed 26th May 2021 5:19am)
  • I’ll need to check these out. by RubberSoldier (Wed 26th May 2021 5:30am)
  • Ha, I actually grew up in EK. Victor’s half pizza suppers were my post Crystals drunk food from 17-21. Don’t think I’ve ever had a pizza crunch from there, weirdly. by RubberSoldier (Wed 26th May 2021 2:36pm)
  • Aye it’s been years since I had one too. Will definitely make a point of the trying the couple suggestions in this thread though. by RubberSoldier (Thu 27th May 2021 11:18pm)
  • I’ve got close family less than 10 miles away who I’ve hardly seen in the last year. That’s not a good enough excuse foe the borders to have stayed open. by RubberSoldier (Fri 28th May 2021 1:37pm)
  • We’re different and an exact copy of the NZ response wouldn’t have been possible, but we could’ve had our own version of it which would’ve saved thousands of lives and prevented lockdown after lockdown. by RubberSoldier (Fri 28th May 2021 4:34pm)
  • Got my vaccine on Saturday and my 5G coverage in brilliant now. by RubberSoldier (Tue 1st Jun 2021 1:15am)
  • If they’re out at night it tends to be because of reports of someone in the river. Should we just leave them in there so your weans can sleep? by RubberSoldier (Wed 9th Jun 2021 1:47am)
  • People have only ever queued outside since the pandemic. Their “whole ploy” is to make as near to authentic Neapolitan style pizza as possible. 99% of people seem to absolutely love it, and their places have been constantly busy since then opened. Fair enough if you don’t like that style of pizza, but downplaying the quality or popularity is mental. by RubberSoldier (Thu 10th Jun 2021 1:48am)
  • I’ve been going to both locations since they opened and never once queued outside. You often have to wait inside, but never outside. What’s more likely to happen is they’ll take your name, tell you to go and have a beer somewhere else, come back in half an hour and your table will be ready. by RubberSoldier (Thu 10th Jun 2021 3:06pm)
  • It’s not a controversy, it’s just not true what you’re saying. by RubberSoldier (Thu 10th Jun 2021 4:03pm)
  • Citing Glasgow Live as a source is pure desperation tbh. Milled Street isn’t even in the Merchant City for a kick off. by RubberSoldier (Thu 10th Jun 2021 4:03pm)
  • And how many of them mention queuing outside, other than the ones from 2020 & 2021? by RubberSoldier (Thu 10th Jun 2021 4:15pm)
  • So people have occasionally had to queue outside when it’s busy inside? You’ve just disproven your original claim that the queues are to create the illusion of demand. Thanks for that. Are you always this easy to manipulate? You should watch that. by RubberSoldier (Thu 10th Jun 2021 4:32pm)
  • On your last point about moaning; There’s a sizeable amount of people who would absolutely love it if we stayed in lockdown, as they have a real problem with football, football fans, drinking, people who drink, pubs, outdoor events like TRNSMT, cars, young people in the park etc etc etc. This section of social killjoys have loved everyone being dragged down into their pit of despair this past year, and resent us leaving it. by RubberSoldier (Thu 10th Jun 2021 11:24pm)
  • Like I told some other idiot moaning about this the other week. If there’s a police helicopter out at night, it’s likely looking for someone who fell/thrown themselves in the river. by RubberSoldier (Thu 1st Jul 2021 5:16am)
  • Mrs Falafel at the Sainsbury’s garage on Woodlands Road. Get the lamb wrap and add halloumi. Salad and a little bit of chilli sauce, little bit of garlic. Thank me later. by RubberSoldier (Tue 20th Jul 2021 11:15pm)
  • Oh dear. by RubberSoldier (Wed 21st Jul 2021 9:36pm)
  • Casual racism/xenophobia isn’t funny tbh. by RubberSoldier (Thu 22nd Jul 2021 5:18pm)
  • On a comment about an ethnic food, you’re bemoaning why it’s on sale, and how Glasgow isn’t what it used to be because of it. That. That’s what’s racist/xenophobic. Hope that clears it up and you won’t need to send me any more abusing private messages 😂 by RubberSoldier (Thu 22nd Jul 2021 5:52pm)
  • I think the dozens who downvoted you would agree that there’s not much reaching involved to see the undertones in your comment. Maybe you didn’t mean it, maybe you’re just thick. Either way stop and take a breathe here, think about the words you use and the context of them. by RubberSoldier (Thu 22nd Jul 2021 6:02pm)

  • High jacking OP’s thread here, but does anyone have any recommendations for an artist that does traditional/nautical/Sailor Jerry style stuff? Got a sleeve that’s been a work in progress for about 10 years now. Really need to get it finished. by RubberSoldier (Fri 6th Aug 2021 2:09am)

  • Glasgow Wood Recycling do custom built furniture made from reclaimed wood. They built me a record player/vinyl storage unit a few years ago out of old scaffolding planks and I’m still in love with it. They’ve got a small showroom of ready made stuff too, and you can buy reclaimed timber direct from them for your own projects. I bought some random lengths of scaffy boards, (can’t get enough of them ha), stained them to match the unit, then bought some industrial style wall brackets and made shelves. Highly recommend checking them out. by RubberSoldier (Fri 20th Aug 2021 1:54am)

  • Obviously there is people who drop litter, but no more so than any other city IMO. Glasgow City Council are the problem. They’ve let the city rot and are still blaming Covid. They other cities I’ve been to post Covid you wouldn’t know there had even a pandemic. Glasgows streets are so strewn with litter you’d think post apocalypse, never mind post Covid. by RubberSoldier (Wed 17th Aug 2022 4:38pm)

  • Don’t buy from the cheap shite places recommended here. Total false economy. Buy a pair of Levi’s. Cost more up front but they last years and years. by RubberSoldier (Fri 16th Sep 2022 10:27pm)
  • OP never specified price range, only where he used to shop, so get off your high horses. Simple fact that Burtons, Next, Matalan etc are all false economy anyway. £40 for a pair of jeans that last a year, or £80/90 for a pair that will literally last 10 if taken care of? by RubberSoldier (Fri 16th Sep 2022 10:38pm)

  • Is Stravaigin Greene King? Since when? by RubberSoldier (Fri 4th Nov 2022 8:38am)
  • Totally missed that. Seemed to be only the Chip people were talking about. Greene King aren’t actually that bad from what I’ve heard. They don’t come in with an wrecking ball and change everything. Mostly let places stay the same and run themselves, other than a bit of GK branding on stuff and GK beers on some of the taps. by RubberSoldier (Fri 4th Nov 2022 8:43am)
  • Aye absolutely. I’m assuming these places sold to GK due to post Covid difficulties. Shite state of affairs. I blame the Tories. by RubberSoldier (Fri 4th Nov 2022 8:49am)

This notion that the city is a no go war zone on match day simply ain’t true. by RubberSoldier (Wed 23rd Nov 2022 12:55am)

  • There’s a tram to Edinburgh airport. by RubberSoldier (Fri 2nd Dec 2022 1:37pm)
  • So it’s on the basis one aspect of disability? There’s a myriad of reasons someone might be issued a blue badge. Not all disabilities are even visible. Here’s you judging an imaginary person in an imaginary car though. Good work. by RubberSoldier (Fri 2nd Dec 2022 1:53pm)
  • Why are you focusing on mobility? I’m saying there are disabilities nothing to do with mobility that will see you issued with a blue badge. Even if someone DID have mobility issues, and felt able to get in and out a sports car, but wasn’t capable of walking the longer distances to shops etc, then who the fuck are you to pass judgement on that? by RubberSoldier (Fri 2nd Dec 2022 2:05pm)

  • 100%. The long term good a Greater Glasgow Metro would do, not just in terms of the improvement in transport links, but environmentally, is huge. Think of how many fewer cars would be commuting into Glasgow if you could get a tram from East Kilbride, Kirky, Paisley etc. It might take a while and be disruptive in the process, but bring it on. by RubberSoldier (Thu 23rd Feb 2023 12:47am)

  • Seems to be more prevalent on here recently. by RubberSoldier (Thu 30th Mar 2023 10:27pm)
  • This is demonstrably not true. People are no more or less likely to litter or make a mess in Glasgow than in any other major city. It just seems like it because of how baldy run the city is. Bins go I emptied and overflowing, birds and foxes get at them, wind blows the rubbish all over the place. by RubberSoldier (Thu 30th Mar 2023 10:30pm)

  • The way people act at gigs is a constant source of anger to me. I just do not understand why you would pay money to see a band, and then stand talking while they’re on stage. The amount of people that literally shout to be heard over the music they’ve came to hear is infuriating. Most of these cunts have the cheek to be annoyed when I say “Can you keep your voice down, I paid to listen to the band, not you talk shite to your mate.” by RubberSoldier (Fri 14th Apr 2023 7:11pm)

  • The vast majority of litter is from overflowing bins the council haven’t emptied. Or from overflowing wheelie bins that are emptied, with shite falling out them, that the council don’t pick up. There are manly bastards that litter, of course, but the blame in the main lies with GCC. by RubberSoldier (Fri 5th May 2023 3:52pm)

  • My mate got one just before Christmas. Twelve grand for just the front, not the crown. Went to the place the footballers go at Blythswood Square. He’s been self conscious about going bald as long as I’ve know him. He says it’s the best money he’s ever spent in terms of the self esteem boost it’s gave him. He’s still got another 6 months before they consider it fully grown in and his hair looks great. If it bothers you that much and you can afford it I say go for it. I bit the bullet and started shaving my head in November, been very slowly balding for about 10 years, but it won the lottery I’d 100% get one. One thing to remember though, they only last about 10 years. You either need to shell out for another one, or accept your fate. by RubberSoldier (Wed 7th Jun 2023 3:16pm)
