  • Sometimes it definitely is true that they used to build them better in the "olden days," its incredible looking back on thinking in the 50s-80s was with the terrible high rises and the complete lack of long term planning and the effect it had across Glasgow. by Scottish_Man (Mon 21st Sep 2020 2:18am)

  • Contacting MSPs is a very good way of sorting out homelessness issues in Glasgow. If you contact them you can normally get them to contact someone in the council in emergency and get a placement. by Scottish_Man (Wed 4th Nov 2020 12:37pm)
  • I remember discussing this issue with Ash Denham MSP, minister for community safety who said its actually not really possible under devotion to ban or change the law on the sale of fireworks as apparently that's still a reserved power or something. by Scottish_Man (Thu 5th Nov 2020 1:03pm)

  • It's so odd that to renovate the winter house it would cost maybe £5 million quid at most and yet the GCC has just never ever even looked at it. Would make it a lovely park. I just find Springburn so utterly depressing. by Scottish_Man (Wed 30th Jun 2021 9:24pm)

  • Personally think one of the big reasons why Glasgow is seeing a lower return of office workers is partially to do with how shit public transport is in the city. Its such a fucking hassle to commute to work for so many places. For example if I lived in Renfrew and worked in the city centre I would obviously prefer to work from home rather than drive 30 mins/get the bus. Perhaps if there was a direct subway/rail link that would be easier. Same if you lived in the south side and worked in the west end for example. It's just such a hassle. If you have to get 2 busses or a car then walk or a train then walk etc it just means that people I think are less likely to come into the office than if public transport was more direct. by Scottish_Man (Sun 21st Nov 2021 1:10pm)
  • What do we do with people who have no respect for the society which they live in? Destroy property, litter etc? by Scottish_Man (Sun 21st Nov 2021 11:35pm)
  • Apparently it took so long to knock down because the landlord wanted to knock it down if the council gave him land around the talisman to redevelop. The council said no and the landlord had connections to the council at the time and so there was no pressure to knock it down. Then the landlord was involved in some criminal activities and basically stopped co-operating with the council. Then over the last five years the council spent time trying to find out who was actually legally responsible for the land and finally threatened a purchase order before they finally relented and started knocking it down. by Scottish_Man (Mon 29th Nov 2021 10:53pm)
  • There's billions of jobs at the moment. Basically every hospitality company is hiring at the moment for minimum wage work. You will be paid less probably at 16 however some supermarkets are good. Supermarkets, fast food places, corner shops etc by Scottish_Man (Wed 1st Dec 2021 8:33pm)
  • Think that's disgusting to be perfectly honest by Scottish_Man (Thu 9th Dec 2021 10:47am)
  • It's nothing to do with Christmas, no one cares about Christianity. It's just a day of rest, same as new years day where we shouldn't work. Yes people used to work on these days, and that's stupid. You should spend Christmas with family/friends etc. It's literally one of TWO days in the whole year where almost everyone stops working. Also Scottish football played on Christmas day in 1977?? Yes they do and they are brilliant for doing that but just have the day off. You don't need to work every day of the year. by Scottish_Man (Thu 9th Dec 2021 12:57pm)
  • I've always felt the obvious solution to this is quite simple, just put it underground. Bury the M8 from the Royal infirmary all the way around to the Kingston junction. Once it was buried you could have off ramps coming up to the surface but you would create a lot of space and wouldn't have to deal with increased traffic. You could also have another road down above it which would hopefully reduce traffic flow. by Scottish_Man (Fri 10th Dec 2021 10:06pm)
  • Yes I am aware of the big dig but it's completely different though. One that was underneath the city. This already has a route. You would effectively just be covering it and building a tunnel in some routes. That was also badly planned and was 30 years ago. Hardly the same. by Scottish_Man (Fri 10th Dec 2021 10:17pm)
  • I think it's just replacing it with bars and restaurants. Barely shop in person at all. Also all the choices for the shops are the same. There's no diversity. by Scottish_Man (Sun 12th Dec 2021 1:19pm)
  • The problem I have with trams is that they would run along wide streets which already have fairly adequate bus coverage. The last plan I saw would mean that it went along wide streets like GWR and missed areas such as Possilpark, Springburn, dalmarnock etc which are the areas which need better connectivity. I thought that surely better subway connections would be better. This is as they will not need existing road connection, they don't lead to on-street congestion and can shorten journey times but linking up areas while bypassing major obstacles. For example going from the Gorbals to Dalmarnock or Celtic Park, or from the Gorbals to Ibrox would be faster and easier with a subway rather than a tram. by Scottish_Man (Wed 15th Dec 2021 11:07pm)

  • For some reason reddit has a hard on for cycling. Despite the fact in Scotland it is dark after 5pm for 6 months of the year. Its predominantly cold and wet, incredibly hilly and people don't want to have to change when they arrive at work. Because of this cycling will never take off like it does in other cities like the Netherlands but yet we must all bed over backwards for 1% of the population. by Scottish_Man (Sun 16th Jan 2022 2:10pm)

  • I did it at the sheriff Court in summer, there's a number on the sheet when you phone the number it says whether or not your number is one of the ones which could be phoned. Then you phone back until the end of the week. Mine was and I got a call the next day then started the day after. by Scottish_Man (Tue 8th Feb 2022 10:52pm)
  • No closed shops in Edinburgh? Prince's Street and George Street have loads of closed shops. It's struggling the same as Glasgow. PS for most of the city your rent is £550 minimum by Scottish_Man (Wed 9th Feb 2022 11:27pm)
  • It's cleaner yes and more affluent yes but if you spend time in Edinburgh you will see the shop situation is dire. Morningside Road for example, affluent area huge amount of shops closed. There hasn't been any tourism for years so the place has suffered. by Scottish_Man (Thu 10th Feb 2022 12:12am)
