  • I’m born and raised in Harthill, spent most of my life there and can confirm it did used to play random audio at times. My dad would walk me up to it as a wee boy so we could hear it. by TristeBolsh (Mon 2nd Aug 2021 8:19pm)
  • A big factor for the areas we’re looking at is reasonable access to the subway within 5ish minutes since I’m so used to getting the subway into work (financial district) and have a tendency to sleep in lol by TristeBolsh (Sat 14th Aug 2021 1:39pm)
  • Really appreciate this. I’ve already got my head wrapped around the usual stuff you get in rougher areas since I grew up in a bad scheme but my main fear is my partner having issues in the area or having to deal with homophobic abuse. Though it’s not fair to assume that any area will be significantly worse than others, it’s just a point of anxiety with any flat hunting. So long as we wouldn’t get any issue in that regard then generally so long as it’s not Mad Max I’m sure we can cope with the odd bit of street drama. The close is well kept and it’s in the tenements in the Usave so seems generally alright. Thanks again for the advice, fairly confident we’ll be taking this flat! by TristeBolsh (Sat 14th Aug 2021 1:43pm)
  • Great advice, cheers. I cycle a lot but use the subway for work. Cant escape bams anywhere, like you said, just a fact of life anywhere you live. Cheers again :) by TristeBolsh (Sat 14th Aug 2021 1:47pm)
  • As others have said, the change in daylight is awful for mental health especially depending on your working hours. I mostly work 9-6 or 11:30-8 and getting up in the dark and going home in the dark makes me feel fucking distraught. That lack of daylight in your free time just fucks you over. by TristeBolsh (Wed 10th Nov 2021 9:44pm)
  • I get that fiscal crises mean rejuvenation and maintenance projects have to forego aesthetics for the most part but it’s heartbreaking to see how little though goes into what the people of the city see on their day-to-day, so much focus on utility makes it hard to feel the soul of the city at times and it’s not something you can just hand wave off with “The people of the city give it its soul”. by TristeBolsh (Fri 19th Nov 2021 5:50pm)
  • Not the ‘80s but my grandad was born in Bridgeton in the mid ‘40s and has some absolutely mental stories of how it was back then. Made even more acute by how heavily sectarian the area was since it was (and still is) the ‘home’ of the Lodge. He eventually got sent to a Borstal for battering someone and said that his time there was more traumatising than the gang violence was. by TristeBolsh (Fri 10th Dec 2021 1:35pm)
