  • Thanks everyone for your very helpful comments. Sounds like top floor is what I'll be looking for. Some kind of view and also more light would also be pluses. I have heard of the attic and roof issues, so I will definitely get a survey for condition, insulation, and security. by WestOaktownPsycolist (Sun 4th Oct 2020 7:12pm)
  • Yes, memories of Glasgow in the seventies. Blackened buildings and the smells of vinegar and diesel exhaust. by WestOaktownPsycolist (Sun 18th Oct 2020 3:00am)
  • I believe around 1984, there was the "Glasgow 'Smiles Better" campaign and there were lots of buildings getting cleaned off. I found it a bit sad, like it was erasing the Victorian Industrial Revolution history. by WestOaktownPsycolist (Sun 18th Oct 2020 3:53am)

  • You've got nothing on the Calilfornia Bay Area. And I pay almost $5000 per year on property taxes. Love the weather when the fire season isn't raging, but can't use the sidewalks for rubbish and tents......... .[https://www.reddit.com/r/armstrongandgetty/comments/cw01tg/dumping\_groundshomeless\_emcampent\_wood\_street/](https://www.reddit.com/r/armstrongandgetty/comments/cw01tg/dumping_groundshomeless_emcampent_wood_street/) by WestOaktownPsycolist (Wed 31st Mar 2021 11:26pm)

  • Much better to go to cinema solo. Yer supposed to watch the film, not have a chat about it, right? Also, regarding liking animals, what a great way to meet other humans, who (mostly) also like animals. And some peeps find space interesting, even if not scientists. Can't speak to gaming, but seems like lots of others are into it! Hopefully you've got something fab to say to an intriguing human about a film you've seen about space or animals. by WestOaktownPsycolist (Mon 11th Oct 2021 11:57pm)
  • Absolutely! Oakland California resident here. Lost my job and health insurance due to pandemic. Currently on Obamacare, subsidized by Biden's American Rescue Plan. Of course, this is temporary, but basically, thank you Barak!!! My health insurance without Obamacare would cost $1318 per month, and this is just for coverage, before I actually use any of it, and pay the deductibles. by WestOaktownPsycolist (Mon 8th Nov 2021 11:12pm)
  • Yes, that's the next problem. I have cousins, but I don't want to impose for too long. by WestOaktownPsycolist (Sun 26th Jun 2022 6:44pm)
  • I really hate the idea of her in the hold, but I'll have to consider it. I didn't realize cats would be allowed on UK trains, and a sleeper cabin is a great idea. Thanks for these links! by WestOaktownPsycolist (Sun 26th Jun 2022 6:42pm)
  • Thanks, but coming from SFO, sorry, should have mentioned that in post by WestOaktownPsycolist (Sun 26th Jun 2022 6:53pm)
  • >American Expats in the UK Thank you, just joined that group, will ask there by WestOaktownPsycolist (Sun 26th Jun 2022 7:02pm)
  • Yes, just got her rabies shot, consulted my vet, and I know about the rabies test and other documents, but also concerned about dehydration like with your dog. It's just becoming very discouraging due to the UK no pets in the cabin rule, and it's sounding like I won't be able to afford it. She is 18 and relatively healthy, but my alternative to not taking her is dim. by WestOaktownPsycolist (Sun 26th Jun 2022 7:41pm)
  • You're right, I suppose I could do that. Then I wouldn't have to wait for the train. by WestOaktownPsycolist (Sun 26th Jun 2022 8:48pm)
  • Thanks for that, will keep in mind by WestOaktownPsycolist (Sun 26th Jun 2022 8:45pm)
  • Yes, this is an idea. Not exactly happy about cat in the hold, would worry about dehydration and her kidneys, but it's a possibility, tho a very long drive with jet lag, etc. by WestOaktownPsycolist (Sun 26th Jun 2022 8:53pm)
  • O, this sounds good, will look into that, thanks. I mean the EuroStar to London train by WestOaktownPsycolist (Sun 26th Jun 2022 9:10pm)
  • Unfortunately I don't have a fortune, but what was the company? by WestOaktownPsycolist (Sun 26th Jun 2022 9:28pm)
  • thanks, will check them out by WestOaktownPsycolist (Sun 26th Jun 2022 11:58pm)
  • Yes, aware of the required rabies vax and test. Thanks by WestOaktownPsycolist (Sun 26th Jun 2022 11:58pm)
  • I did notice that one of the quotes I got had a connecting flight into EDI rather that GLA, so that explains it - thanks. Was the cuddle person from the airport or the transport company? Hopefully there's a cuddle person at SFO! by WestOaktownPsycolist (Mon 27th Jun 2022 12:02am)
  • What papers are needed when entering Amsterdam with a cat before taking the ferry to UK? by WestOaktownPsycolist (Mon 27th Jun 2022 3:08am)
  • O never mind, just reading about a transit EU health certificate by WestOaktownPsycolist (Mon 27th Jun 2022 3:13am)
  • Yeah, the sensible option is to rehome her, but at 18 that won't be easy. The other option would be to euthanize her, and I've been waiting for the vet to tell me it's time, but at the recent visit she said the cat is healthy and could live to twenty five. It's quite the dilemma and I don't know if I could find someone to put down an old but healthy cat. And I absolutely love her, unfortunately. by WestOaktownPsycolist (Mon 27th Jun 2022 4:19pm)
  • Ever been to Oakland California? Zombiepocalypse is real and it's here. by WestOaktownPsycolist (Tue 28th Jun 2022 3:55am)
  • Thanks for all that detail. What did you do about a litter box. Did you have a disposable one or did they hold it or did they just mess themselves? The hard cargo carriers are easier to clean than the soft cabin ones. I still don’t know what I’m going to do, just trying to work out all the details. by WestOaktownPsycolist (Tue 28th Jun 2022 2:33pm)
  • Wow, this is incredibly helpful. Thanks! by WestOaktownPsycolist (Tue 28th Jun 2022 6:12pm)
  • Amsterdam to Newcastle ferry is what I'm planning to do - will book ferry tomorrow if pet friendly cabins are still available. I have a flight from SFO to AMS, ferry to Newcastle, then train to Glasgow. Will have unhappy cat with me the whole time, assuming she's still alive, but at least I'll be there. by WestOaktownPsycolist (Thu 21st Jul 2022 12:42am)
  • Thanks for your replies everyone! by WestOaktownPsycolist (Sun 23rd Oct 2022 7:41am)
  • I'm absolutely not planning a DIY, but I never thought to ask the regular vet, just assumed they don't do home visits, so thanks, I will check with them. I had another cat put down at my home in California, and it was incredibly gentle, no stressful trip to the vet, and so I want the same for this one. by WestOaktownPsycolist (Sat 14th Jan 2023 2:08pm)

  • Yea, a bit disturbed by this request. The company has loads of great reviews on multiple platforms and I know their shop has been there a while. I was also looking forward to leaving a good review for them, but even if the work is done and is done well, I will be mentioning this. by WestOaktownPsycolist (Mon 14th Aug 2023 3:44pm)
  • A couple days ago I got charged £16 to go from Battle field to Seven Lochs Park and back, all within the £5.40 max charge zone. I did tap on/off. Filled out the overcharge form on firstbus website but no response yet. First time that happened to me. by WestOaktownPsycolist (Sat 9th Sep 2023 6:10am)
  • Update. They refunded the overcharge onto my card. by WestOaktownPsycolist (Wed 13th Sep 2023 2:01pm)
