  • I disagree, I currently busk in Glasgow. You just show up very early and you have the spot for as long as you like. I know people who are up since 6am on the street to get good spots, and they rightfully earn it. The people who show up in the middle of the day expecting a spot really piss off everyone, including shop owners if they are enjoying the music, and most of the time they are pipers. by WhoreableBitch (Sun 5th Jun 2022 12:59pm)
  • You show up early, claim a spot and play. No one can push you off apart from shopkeepers if it's too loud. After busking a lot in Glasgow I believe there should be some sort of regulation, There are too many shitty con artists that take up spots where good musicians can show their craft. The problem with that, Who is in charge of or regulating that? and any good travelling musicians would be stuck when they get to Glasgow. But busking is becoming much less lucrative post-pandemic cause people naturally don't carry that much cash or change anymore. by WhoreableBitch (Sun 5th Jun 2022 1:10pm)

  • I mean I would welcome a system that would audition buskers for quality control. So that fake violinists can't get away with this. by WhoreableBitch (Sun 5th Jun 2022 7:09pm)
  • Yeah but no one follows that... by WhoreableBitch (Mon 6th Jun 2022 9:29am)
  • Yeah, the current system is not good for that at all. Ideally, you would want buskers to swap spots every hour so that shopkeepers don't go insane. The thing is no one follows this because the rules are far too grey. I would totally support regulations like a busking permit that you gain through auditioning and completing an agreement that clearly outlines better rules for everyone. The problem is a lot of buskers are con men like this violinist or the guy that put on techno music with dancing robots. Anyone will get sick of that. Even now that the number of performers who are going on the street has almost doubled in the past 5 years there needs to be regulation and quality control as there are good musicians out there that can make a far better impression on Buchanan street. by WhoreableBitch (Tue 7th Jun 2022 10:46am)
  • The amp rule has apparently reversed in Edinburgh. The issue isn't amplification cause if someone is a good musician you would welcome amplification. The long term solution to this is to permit Glasgow buskers so that con men can't take up pitches. by WhoreableBitch (Tue 7th Jun 2022 10:58am)

  • haha by WhoreableBitch (Tue 7th Jun 2022 11:02am)
  • That is not the long term solution, cause you would welcome amplification if it was broadcasting a good musician. Glasgow needs a permit system and quality control. So that con men can't take up sonic space on the street. by WhoreableBitch (Tue 7th Jun 2022 11:01am)

  • You don't need a permit don't listen to this guy! Just show up early on Buchanan Street (like 8:30am at the latest) and play some good music, know more than 15 songs that you enjoy and cycle through them. Ignore the bams and ask the shopkeepers around you for permission before you busk. As a nice gesture, buy the staff a pack of beers or something at the end of the day before you leave. Don't show up in the middle of the afternoon expecting to get a spot, cause you most likely won't get one. They'll be people on this sub referencing to a form that states that buskers have to move every hour but trust me no one follows it and it never happens. by WhoreableBitch (Mon 27th Jun 2022 3:02pm)

  • Jesus christ I'm reading this post "spent £70 on TGI's, spent £30 on a curry spent £25 on Macdonalds." **COOK YOUR OWN MEALS**! It's tastes better, it's healthy, it's way cheaper and you learn how to cook. • I can vouch, I use my wh1000xm3 when my bro practices drum kit upstairs, I'm also a musician and I respect the regimented practice so I don't want to disturb him. The wh1000xm3 is the perfect solution to get work done while he's playing. I can't hear him at all even when he's shredding loudly. My mate has the m4's, they are basically identical to the m3's but you can connect multiple devices at once, but he actually finds the m4's annoying. When he walks into a room with a second device the m4's interrupted his podcast to connect to another device. So I recommend the m3's if you want something that works and is a bit cheaper. Hope this helps! by WhoreableBitch (Mon 25th Jul 2022 3:14pm)
  • [Chateau X](https://chateaux-restaurant.co.uk/) So I was never a steak guy, I used to hate steak, and never ordered it at any restaurant. This wasn't until I went to Chateau X! I literally got one of the best meals I've ever had. The steak is cooked to perfection but if you're a veggie please don't let it put you off as the veggie sides are equally amazing! Didn't know carrots could taste so complex and delicious. Not only that but the ice cream for dessert is on the house, exactly what you want at the end of a steak dinner. by WhoreableBitch (Fri 29th Jul 2022 12:21am)

  • I would agree with posts on things like shop closures, shit transport, shit city centre and housing is becoming awful. But I have noticed a vast improvement in the music scene over the past 5 years. Compared to five years ago there are so many new Glasgow-based bands that are absolutely amazing to see live. To name a few **Corto Alto, Tom Mcguire and the Brass Holes, Kitti, Strata, Aku, Brasser.** You used to not have this many bands in Glasgow that are making waves on this scene. Not only that, but the extremely talented musicians in these bands have set up lots of Jams at many pubs around the city to help boost the music scene and help musicians find each other. We have more Jam nights and a vibrant music scene in the city post covid. It's almost as if the musicians in Glasgow's scene is now approaching a point where it's rivalling Manchester or London in terms of creative output. by WhoreableBitch (Sun 7th Aug 2022 11:44am)
  • I would say I have to agree, I don't walk past that thinking "oh wow what historical mastery of architecture is this". It's an old rundown warehouse I don't care if it's from the 1800s, demolish it and build something practical for the city. by WhoreableBitch (Fri 12th Aug 2022 2:53pm)
  • Wait I don't get it, so someone is complaining about hogweed investing in Glasgow and then an article gets written about it to spread the word to more people who don't use Reddit? Isn't that what you want? Do you just want to raise issues on this Reddit page and do nothing about it? Okay, I get that they're not giving recognition to Reddit but if you reference an article from a Reddit user post it looks very amateur, at that point, I would stop reading the article cause Reddit has problematic connotations. I mean that's their job description, they research stories in Glasgow and choose which ones to write about. That's it. by WhoreableBitch (Thu 18th Aug 2022 11:31am)

  • No, I just got threatened that I would be Skelpped, then other adults in shops would say that myself and my sibling were very well-behaved kids, but we were just in fear of our Mum. Yeah really had to unpack that. by WhoreableBitch (Sat 27th Aug 2022 2:27am)
  • So funny story related to this, I was on a late train back home from uni last year and I sat across from a mum and her two sons, roughly 4 or 5 years old. I just had my headphones on and I plugged myself into a podcast as I do on public transport however I couldn't help but notice that the mum was just way too OTT towards her weans. Like... they weren't being fussy, loud or acting up, they were just being normal 5-year-old kids that might sit weirdly on the train or play little made-up games with each other. But the mum was just being overly strict and shouting at them for really dumb shit. Then it got to a point where the mum said "If you don't behave I'm going to phone **GORDAN RAMSEY**!" So *immediately,* I paused my podcast cause I couldn't believe what I was hearing! *" If you's don't sit nice, I'm going to call* **GORDON RAMSEY** *to pick you up at Bishopton!"* I was in *awe*. I had so many questions. Why *Gordon Ramsey*? Why were the weans afraid of celebrity chef and restauranter ***Gordon James Ramsey OBE***? Clearly, this wasn't the first time that the mum used this threat with her sons, as the mention of *Gordon Ramsay made her* kids jolt in utter fear and shock. What did this stem from, watching kitchen nightmares? Hell's Kitchen? As previously mentioned the cow is **OTT** so naturally, she isn't satisfied with instilling fear in her weans. So she gets her phone out and pretends to dial a number, *"Hello, is that* ***GORDON RAMSEY****, yeah \[wean 1\] and \[wean 2\] are not sitting nice on the train, when can you pick them up at Bishopton?"* While she is saying this her poor sons are terrified and getting worked up, screaming **"noooo"** and promising that they will *"sit nice"*. They have been convinced that Gordon Ramsey is some sort of omnipotent being capable of snatching children at a moment's notice. So for the rest of the train journey, both 5-year-olds never made a sound ***even though they weren't doing much in the first place*** and the cow of a mum just sat on her phone. I got a glimpse into this family's dynamic and I still have unanswered questions. Why *Gordon Ramsey*, What leads to a fear of *Gordon Ramsey*? Where are those kids now, are they safe? Is the mum still OTT? Who knows... Thank you for reading this. by WhoreableBitch (Sat 27th Aug 2022 3:11am)

  • Idk if this helps mate but you can try Park and Ride on a subway or bus station? by WhoreableBitch (Tue 30th Aug 2022 5:25pm)
  • So last month I discovered a weird loophole. One day I had to park in Glasgow from 10 till 6, and 8 hours in this parking lot was **£24**. The next day I tried to sneakily park around the back of a building for 8 hours and got a ticket... the parking ticket was £30 but if you paid for it on the same day it was reduced to **£15.** So naturally, I just parked at the same spot for ages knowing that if I got a ticket it costs less than paying for parking anyway and somedays I didn't get a ticket cause I would put my previous ticket on my car to make it look like I've already received one. I don't know if the hike in price is there to deter people like me that would take advantage of this loophole. Cause before it was pretty much pointless to use any multi-story parking if you needed to park your car for more than 7 hours. by WhoreableBitch (Tue 30th Aug 2022 7:22pm)
  • That's good to know, I've never heard of a car being impounded for an average parking ticket though, I didn't think the council where organised enough for that! Well, that's good to know that Duke street is £5 per day! Thanks! by WhoreableBitch (Tue 30th Aug 2022 11:37pm)
  • Drivers need to understand that if you run into a cyclist you are to blame. You won't have any case in any trial as cyclists and pedestrians fundamentally have priority on the road. When you drive next to a cyclist just give them the same space you would give a car. It's that easy. by WhoreableBitch (Wed 31st Aug 2022 1:37pm)

  • That sounds like a nice idea for musicians who would like to jam in the comfort of being in a sort of private studio space. But I would say there are more jam sessions in pubs in Glasgow now than pre-Covid. They are excellent jam sessions that good musicians attend at all skill levels. Have you tried any of those sessions first? by WhoreableBitch (Tue 6th Sep 2022 12:47pm)

  • Write in your CV that you got experience in a place that's shut down. Say you worked in M&S or Boots before it shut. If you want to put in a reference number put in an older friends and have them in on it if they call up (which they wont). Worked for me, they have to train you regardless of "experience" . It's a shit system anyway and you need to pay your bills at the end of the day. • Honestly, **Spoons**. It just feels like manufactured vibes and the service is not very good. No culture even if they use old buildings. At least the ones in Glasgow. They're overrated. by WhoreableBitch (Thu 15th Sep 2022 11:52pm)
  • Name a pub that's better for live music then. You have musicians that are currently touring Europe in who played in Butt Pig, Musicians that are nominated for the Mercury Prize for their albums and professional musicians making a real impact on the UK music scene. Butt Pig celebrates this and it's completely free for guests. You're never going to see that in a spoon for free, the franchise has the money but their target audience is people who prefer to drink in a place with no culture. Just manufactured culture from the buildings that they inhabit and cheap drinks, that doesn't sound like a fun night out to me. by WhoreableBitch (Fri 16th Sep 2022 12:03am)

  • That's all correct...apart from 2 things. **Moving every hour** is false. Nobody on Buchanan street moves from their pitch once they are set up. **Just get on the street early** and stay where you are unless a shopkeeper asks you to move. Don't ask any busker to move or swap spots if they have arrived before you, just get on the street earlier than them. **ASK THE SHOPKEEPERS BEFORE YOU START.** It's simply a gesture of good manners. If a shop manager is very adamant to let you play just say *"hear me play one or two songs and then call it".* If you're a good musician you should not worry about this bet cause they should allow you to stick around if you can play well. Lastly, **Don't treat Buchanan street like a rehearsal space.** It's where the street gets a bad rap. My band used to play and get huge crowds, workers texting us from offices saying they loved our music and restaurants paying us to come back the next day. Now you just see spice boys singing, fake despacito violin and electronic cat dancing. The difference between a subpar performance and a great one is just a bit of time in effort perfecting what you can do ***before*** busking. Be respectful to the people walking down the street and treat them to a well rehearsed performance and you'll stand out and be successful. Don't listen to people on this Reddit sub as most of them don't know what they are commenting on. I've successfully busked in Glasgow pulling in a lot of money and if you have any questions DM me if you want. by WhoreableBitch (Fri 16th Sep 2022 12:33am)

Flat 0/1 and Lucky 7's were owned by the same company, and I think they were in the same building, so both places were under one license. around 2019 I think, the police went around to Lucky 7 for a quick check and found that the bouncer had a knife on him. he was hired by the venues and not an agency. • I spend *15min max* in the morning just tidying up the house and *15min* before I go to bed. Any food or dishes I take out of cupboards or the fridge I just put away or clean right after I'm done using them. Now I have a dishwasher and I just put it on every night and empty it every morning. I do my washing every Sunday, which takes only 90mins. My place never gets too messy that it takes hours to clean, I clean as I go and I love it, it gives me peace of mind that I'm solely responsible for my space and it feels great to always walk into a tidy home after work. I'm also never in a position where I would feel uncomfortable having friends over to hang out for dinner. **£35 a week for a cleaner is £1820 a year!** Imagine being abled-bodied and spending that amount of money when you can just make it a habit to be tidy. by WhoreableBitch (Sun 20th Nov 2022 1:59am)

You want to buy something that does the job and looks good on you.** For me, there are far too many coats and waterproof jackets out there that look like something an astronaut would wear. Most of the Decathlon jackets are great for a hike up Ben Lomond but the plastic material doesn't look nice as an everyday jacket to work or walking around town. When you are buying something just make sure that you are thinking about how it looks on you as well. Remember the clothes you wear is the first impression you make to anyone before you even say anything. by WhoreableBitch (Mon 21st Nov 2022 11:41pm)

  • You don't need to work in retail to understand this... You just need to be nice, it's not hard but people go out of their way to be arseholes. Most of the time those people are over 40 which is laughable. by WhoreableBitch (Sun 29th Jan 2023 12:02am)

  • If you didn't get an agreement in writing that he'll pay you for the gig by a date, then I'm afraid you are going to have to take the hit. Always make sure you have this in writing before you put anything in your calendar. If you find that someone is being scetchy about booking, just let them know that you're not confident in their professionality and you're backing out. If there was nothing in writing, they also can't take you to court over it. There are far too many shitty managers in glasgow that need their names dragged across the mud. I would personally love a reddit or facebook page where musicans can blacklist venues. by WhoreableBitch (Thu 6th Apr 2023 7:05pm)

Apparently, shit like this takes like 10min to solve with a nurse so it's ridiculous that your GP is doing nothing. Unfortunately, quality of GP practices are inconsistent across the UK so you might want to register with a different GP if the bar is that low. by WhoreableBitch (Thu 13th Apr 2023 1:35pm)

  • A few years ago I hopped in a Glasgow taxi with a sticker indicating that you can use contactless to pay. At the end of the journey, I pulled out my card and the driver was like, *"it's cash only mate"* I just said. "I don't carry cash cause we're in the middle of a pandemic and you have a sign on your taxi that says you accept contactless, if you don't accept contactless take down your sign mate" The guy paused for a bit... he then pulled out the contactless payment device that was issued to him by GlasGo. • It's Shilling, a large craft beer pub in the city centre. What did you expect?? by WhoreableBitch (Fri 12th May 2023 12:11am)
  • Yeah, you can totally. The cups they pass out are reusable and shouldn't be thrown in the bin. So they tell you that you get £1 back if you give your cup back at the end of the gig. But you can just collect a fuck ton of cups and give them back, they pay you for all of them. It's a smart initiative that prevents litter and helps clean up at that same time. by WhoreableBitch (Fri 12th May 2023 12:15am)

  • Ok, Sunday at Waxy O'connors is a trad session from 3-6. It's pretty good and fun. Also on Sunday, there's another later trad season in the Ben Nevis pub from 7-11. That one is pretty famous, and the tunes are fast af. Then if you're up for it, there's a jam at Box from 11-2am. The house band are phenomenal. There's a gig series called Laylow that is hosted in the rumshack. You should follow it on instagram. They host different bands and artists on Tuesday nights in the Rumshack, and all of the shows have been amazing. If your into Jazz, the Jazz wednesday nights at the Butterfly and Pig on Bath Street are so good. You should just go to whatever is on and make a note of what you think is good for you. There's always a lot of stuff on in glasgow that caters to different tastes, so I would just spend some evenings planning to go to gigs. by WhoreableBitch (Sat 20th May 2023 12:26pm)

Honestly, I've timed traffic lights in Glasgow, and most of them are red for more than 2 and a half min and green for less than 10 seconds. Most activate when no one is crossing or using the perpendicular junctions. by WhoreableBitch (Sat 22nd Jul 2023 11:16am)

  • Most people smoke harmless shit like weed and that's criminalised for some reason but smoking and alcohol abuse and wreaking people's health. Tbh I've noticed a fundamental shift in consuming drugs in my generation. Most of my mates in their early to mid 20's don't consistently abuse alcohol, smoking or cannabis cause I think we were educated how to have a healthy boundary with that. A factor in this may be due to the fact that a night out is much more expensive even in the past few years. Like in school we weren't taught **"drugs are bad stay away!"** we were educated in the effects of each drug and the dangers of abusing them. So drinking responsibly means *knowing your limits*, prepping before hand with a hearty meal and drinking water throughout the night. We were also taught about alcoholism and how selfish and rude it is to egg on someone who is trying to be sober or how dangerous is it to drink and drive. We would also be informed on the stats of drug abuse, like alcohol is the deadliest drug despite being legal. by WhoreableBitch (Sat 29th Jul 2023 12:27pm)

I ask if I can buy a ticket and the guy behind the till goes "sorry mate, shift change buy it at central". I said that I didn't want the extra charge and I should be able to buy a ticket in the middle of the day shift change or not. The guy just said, " Not my problem" he was so fucking rude and deliberately unhelpful. I felt like a Karen and told asked for his name and reported him. I got an email through saying that the guy in question had multiple complaints and had to do retraining or something.
