  • Know a few folk that worked in and spent a lot of time round the thirteenth note(I didn’t, but would pop in for the odd pint), said your dad is mental(in a good way), and a great guy. Saw teenage fanclub play the barrowlands, last year I think, were playing bandwagonesque all the way through and your dad was on drums, he was hilarious with his quips between each song. Used to go see a few friends bands play downstairs, was always a cool place, feels a bit swanky now tbh, but always a good vibe. by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Fri 7th Aug 2020 12:48am)
  • Fuck man, sorry to hear that. I never met him and tbh when people told me he was mental I just assumed it was in a good way, he was funny at that teenage fanclub gig.. Hope you’re doing alright. by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Fri 7th Aug 2020 1:00am)

  • There is a higher BAME population than ever before so more people are likely to experience racist abuse. Unfortunatley there will always be racists, but its a small minority of people in Glasgow. by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Thu 18th Feb 2021 10:29am)
  • Equality is better than ever. Are you BAME? Not long ago 'pakis' and 'chinkies' were common words for the general population. If you were to go back 30 years and give people a platform like social media to air their views, far more people would be casually racist than now. by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Thu 18th Feb 2021 10:26am)

  • The cross at Bridgeton is really nice, could be some place if it had some nice bars and cafes. It's close to the clyde and city centre. Walk along the clyde, pop up to the cross for a pint. Instead it seems to be mainly populated by reprobates who run the area. Absolute headbangers walking about at all hours every day. by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Wed 17th Mar 2021 3:13pm)
  • You could read that comment? Feel I'm have a stroke trying to read it. by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Wed 17th Mar 2021 3:15pm)
  • Aye man this seems obvious to me when I'm about Dennistoun. What are people seeing that makes them think it'll be like the west end? Cos some students live there? Theres about 2 decent bars at best, hardly any good food, and junkies galore. by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Wed 17th Mar 2021 10:52pm)
  • Haha, forever young is too obsessed with being a rangers supporting working class hero to realise people were rightfully angry/disgusted at the rangers fans last weekend due to their actions, not the team they support or their class. by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Thu 18th Mar 2021 12:49pm)
  • Give up your pish about the poor working class and accept that people targeted football fans last week with their anger because it was football fans gathered in George square. It's not classism to be angry at hundreds of folk mass gathering all over glasgow in a drunken mess in the middle of a pandemic. by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Thu 18th Mar 2021 12:47pm)
  • Forgot to mention, feel being close to town is always given as a reason why it's cool, but getting to town isn't really hard from most places in Glasgow. Is Dennistoun in itself really a cool place? Would someone from Southside have a good reason to go there for a Saturday out with friends? by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Sat 27th Mar 2021 10:01pm)
  • It's honestly not much different now than what you described. Really doesn't have a good selection of pubs/restaurants compared to city centre/southside/west end by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Sat 27th Mar 2021 11:11pm)

  • Whit by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Sun 28th Mar 2021 3:04pm)
  • Aye well bars and restaurants are how I would judge how 'cool' or good an area is. Finnieston has a fair share of good bars and restaurants, plus Kelvingrove park. Can have a good day/night out there when everything is open. by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Sun 28th Mar 2021 3:39pm)
  • I think if I lived there I'd be heading elsewhere on my days off, just doesn't seem to have many places I'd enjoy hanging out at on a regular basis. For example I lived on pollokshaws road. Had allison arms for old style community boozer, rum shack for something different, glad cafe for interesting arts events, bell jar for hipster hangout plus more decent bars for a bit of variety. Queens park, pollok park, linn park within walking distance. Cool cafes, interesting local shops, not many out their head junkies. I'd just rate it much higher than Dennistoun for everything tbh. by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Sun 28th Mar 2021 6:48pm)
  • Agreed. My old flat had I think 3 blue bins for 8 flats, and they were always filled after about 3 days usually with Amazon packages. by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Wed 31st Mar 2021 5:09pm)
  • Yes, it's not a good paper but it's very unlikely they'll turn a story about trying to clean up the city into a negative, and they have a wide reader base so the message will get to more people including some who will be unlikely to get the message elsewhere. by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Wed 31st Mar 2021 5:24pm)

"Oh look here come a bunch of rangers fans who are so drunk they can hardly walk, aggressive towards outsiders, shouting racist and sectarian slogans, fighting and pissing and throwing up and wrecking the joint, so nice to share the city centre with them." • Has anyone ever known someone in Glasgow who has taken 'hun' as being offensive against protestantism? Everyone I've ever spoken to uses it or takes it as synonymous with 'knuckledragger' and dont consider the persons religion whatsoever. Seems like its came up online in the past few years as a way to say both sides are as bad as each other when it comes to bigotry. by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Wed 19th May 2021 4:08pm)
  • Great area to live based on how easy it is to get around Glasgow, clyde and green right on your doorstep etc but definitely rough, during covid times anyway. Junkies and folk swigging out cans everywhere, neds kicking about, underage drinkers. I dont mind the drinking but get some right roasters wandering about the cross steaming on a regular basis and barneys seem to be fairly regular. Seem to be a lot of aggressive folk hanging around/passing through. Not had any bother myself but I definitely feel I have to be more aware of my surroundings than I have in other parts of Glasgow. by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Wed 19th May 2021 4:13pm)

Genuinely think they finished paving the roads and have forgot to take away the signs, was supposed to be finished on the 30th and no ones doing any work. When it is open, people tend to abandon their cars any old place, such is Glasgow. by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Tue 1st Jun 2021 12:22pm)
  • Would be interesting to hear from folk who have lived in other countries. I think theres a problem in Scotland with cowardly, unprovoked attacks for the sake of violence in Scotland. I've never really felt any menace when in Europe, and most warnings I've had from locals is to watch out for muggers. I'm sure random attacks happen everywhere, but Glasgow feels like a particularly aggressive city. Maybe I just notice it more because I've always lived here and know what to watch out for. by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Thu 1st Jul 2021 11:03am)
  • Saw a post about an assault in Kelvingrove park yesterday, wee ned lassies pulling random birds hair, and was relevant to something I've been thinking about recently. Lots of wee, vicious ned lassies around these days. If they were to start on my girlfriend, how acceptable would it be for me to give them a whack? Would every onlooker get involved in kicking my head in? Never in my life thought about hitting a girl, but seeing how aggressive they are... by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Thu 1st Jul 2021 11:08am)
  • Yeah, I really doubt the situation will ever come up, always avoid trouble because I've got more to lose than some ned, but seeing quite a few gangs of wee lassies near where we stay and its crossed my mind what I could do if they started. Would find it totally understandable if some guy did hit them if they were causing it, not something I've ever thought before the past year or so. by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Thu 1st Jul 2021 11:44am)

  • If he did though, you'd be happy for the van to be outside your front door from morning until night? Do you think it's anything goes near flats in the west end? Me and some mates could show up with musical instruments and speakers, set up on a busy pavement anywhere in the west end , set the speakers to max volume, make a racket from morning to night, and leave a hat in front of us for collecting money from passers by? And anyone complaining would be a cunt? by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Wed 23rd Mar 2022 5:35pm)
  • Confusion and concern would be your only reaction? You wouldn't want the van gone from the front of your house? Even if people started driving from wherever to come get a burger, parking their cars on your street, chucking the rubbish in your garden? OP did talk to the guy? What should he do next, go down and stab him like a true glaswegian? The main concerns of the burger van seem to be noise and having folk hanging about the area. Me and my mates would produce the same effect with some live music, hows it more extreme? by YourCrosswordPuzzle (Wed 23rd Mar 2022 6:06pm)
  • OP posted for some advice. You dont have to get raging, I just dont understand why you cant see it's an inconvenience for something like a burger van to just set up wherever the owner likes? If you think they should be able to, why stop with burger vans?
