  • aye but I need to bring my little car as well! so would have to go back and get it, or get someone else to drive it and pay for their train? but that is ££ by babbingtonsleek (Mon 15th Mar 2021 7:17pm)
  • ooh thanks i'd never heard of shiply, i'll check it out. It's just a room in a shared house worth of stuff but furniture too... I think a MWB van would do it by babbingtonsleek (Mon 15th Mar 2021 7:16pm)
  • I love tebay it's the best bit of the journey!! by babbingtonsleek (Mon 15th Mar 2021 7:15pm)
  • Yeah I drive vans for a living at the moment and i've done it a good few times, it is easy but I was just checking out all my options. It would be Bristol - Glasgow and back again to fetch my car so that's 2/3 days driving by babbingtonsleek (Mon 15th Mar 2021 7:15pm)
  • ouch!! i hate driving in or even near Birmingham by babbingtonsleek (Mon 15th Mar 2021 7:34pm)
  • thanks for the tips! wow £100 seems like a bargain from the prices i've been looking at... I think i'll probably end up doing it myself, or getting a friend to help. but i'm going to explore all the possibilities! by babbingtonsleek (Tue 16th Mar 2021 3:47pm)
  • I'm on that block ! Dixon avenue. there were some people having a fire and stuff out the back last night but I didn't find them that noisy. I've got a crappy wee flat but it does have decent double glazing, luckily. I get more annoyed with the noisy children on the trampoline screaming their wee heads off but that's only during the day... Was it just last night or have you noticed it more often? I've only just moved in but I'll tell people to shut up if it's on my side of the court... by babbingtonsleek (Wed 9th Jun 2021 8:46am)
  • Oh same, I get suuuper grumpy if I don't sleep through the night. Ear plugs are the one if you can sleep with them in. by babbingtonsleek (Wed 9th Jun 2021 5:01pm)
  • thanks ! by babbingtonsleek (Sat 24th Jul 2021 3:49pm)
  • ah ok, thanks, the website was kind of confusing because it said all the memberships weren't taking on new members. I didn't realise you could just sign up without a membership. by babbingtonsleek (Sat 24th Jul 2021 3:49pm)
  • I'm near Queens park but I do drive, I'll check out those ones, thanks! by babbingtonsleek (Sun 25th Jul 2021 11:06am)
  • I went there for a 'taster day' years ago and it was lush ! I forgot about that place by babbingtonsleek (Sun 25th Jul 2021 11:15am)
  • Thanks for the tip. Yeah unfortunately my current car is on the way out, and I use it for my job so can't really wait until it bites the dust because I can't be without a car. The repairs it needs greatly exceeds its' value. Edit: whereabouts are All Parks? can't find em on google by babbingtonsleek (Sun 25th Jul 2021 1:48pm)
  • thank you by babbingtonsleek (Sun 25th Jul 2021 4:04pm)
  • This is how I've normally done it, but a couple times still ended up with a shitter. I'm gonna look at dealerships and private and see how i get on. Man, I hate buying cars ! Glad you got a good one. by babbingtonsleek (Sun 25th Jul 2021 4:08pm)
  • Don't use any mechanics in Ibrox is my only advice I can give for not getting ripped off. Source: I got ripped off by most of them by babbingtonsleek (Sun 25th Jul 2021 6:18pm)
  • I've been to the van auctions in Blochairn in the past and they were too intimidating for me, even when I was with a male friend who recommended them. But I'll think about it. I never thought of asking the auction guys. by babbingtonsleek (Sun 25th Jul 2021 6:23pm)
  • The cars on the website are all out of my price range, unfortunately. I might still check them out though as it's kind of on my way home from work. by babbingtonsleek (Sun 25th Jul 2021 6:21pm)
  • thanks for your advice, those are some good tips. would you be put off if a dealership didn't have a website, and when you googled the guys name is came up with news items for 2007 about him being arrested for running a dealership without a license? now i've typed it out it sounds crazy. I just went to view and drive a really nice car but now this research has put me off a bit. by babbingtonsleek (Mon 26th Jul 2021 6:34pm)
  • cheers. I'll keep all that in mind! by babbingtonsleek (Mon 26th Jul 2021 10:08pm)
  • I've been recommended this place ! unfortunately I don't have a mechanicky friend here in Glasgow :( by babbingtonsleek (Tue 27th Jul 2021 6:29pm)
  • I really wanted to make a post to complain but i hate complaining posts so I didn't but I just want to rant that my street was covered in rubbish from the overflowing bins as usual, seagulls spread it around everywhere, pure gross horrible have to wade through it every morning when I leave the house.. reported it on the GCC app as usual, it was bin day today and they actually came (shock !) and collected everything.. i get an email from GCC "the items you reported fly tipped have been collected" yeah that's because it's FUCKING BIN DAY you idiots... rant over phew by babbingtonsleek (Tue 27th Jul 2021 8:42pm)
  • Right, this is a stupid question, but how much is council tax band B per month? I applied for single person discount when I moved in two months ago and got a bill but I can't work out if it's been applied. I checked the GCC website but the numbers don't add up! sorry to hijack your post OP by babbingtonsleek (Mon 2nd Aug 2021 12:17pm)
  • thanks for the explanation ! I couldn't work out the 10 and 12 month thing. I think they have applied mine then, maybe they did it so quick because I'd just moved in. by babbingtonsleek (Mon 2nd Aug 2021 6:21pm)
  • thanks. yeah that does look like the best route by babbingtonsleek (Sun 3rd Oct 2021 7:52pm)
  • ah, well spotted, i didnt see that sign. thanks! by babbingtonsleek (Sun 3rd Oct 2021 9:43pm)
  • Don't wanna make a new post about this because it's been asked before a million times I'm sure.. but is there somewhere other than rightmove, gumtree and FB to look for flats to rent? desperate to move out of my flat soon for safety reasons by babbingtonsleek (Fri 14th Jan 2022 4:58pm)
  • Good shout, I'll check them out by babbingtonsleek (Sat 15th Jan 2022 12:55pm)

  • Magpies nest in Govan is great, they only ever sell things for very cheap. Also Maszlows round the corner by babbingtonsleek (Mon 14th Feb 2022 10:26am)
  • You reckon? Maybe you're right. I'll need to look around and compare prices anyway, i just hate doing it so thought I'd ask here to speed things up ha by babbingtonsleek (Sun 12th Jun 2022 2:29pm)
  • Ooh which magazines, old school. Thanks for the advice by babbingtonsleek (Sun 12th Jun 2022 2:27pm)
  • Haha didn't know argos sold those by babbingtonsleek (Sun 12th Jun 2022 2:25pm)

  • Haha by babbingtonsleek (Sun 12th Jun 2022 2:30pm)
  • Thanks for the advice ! This is my first time buying a cooker so it's good to hear experiences. I'll check under the hob plates. It's a housing association place and they want me to pay for their gas man to install it but Thanks for the offer! by babbingtonsleek (Mon 13th Jun 2022 3:44pm)
  • I accidentally locked myself out of my SDS account, it said to contact them and I've emailed them twice and sat on hold for 30 mins... nothing! Can't get through and no reply. I'm also waiting for a deposit refund and wanted to check the status of it. Thinking about turning up at their offices haha. by babbingtonsleek (Wed 27th Jul 2022 1:27pm)
  • Come to Women's night bouldering group at TCA the Prop Store on Wednesday nights at 7pm ! by babbingtonsleek (Tue 2nd Aug 2022 10:42pm)
  • Cool they meet in the cafe at 7 by babbingtonsleek (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 8:49am)
  • Most underrated cafe in the southside ! Love it in there by babbingtonsleek (Wed 5th Oct 2022 10:53pm)
  • No one has mentioned it yet but Hang On in Hamilton does a taster session for bouldering and the price covers a little introduction with friendly staff and just entry and you can stay as long as you want. They do coffee and stuff. Go a walk in chateleraut. Nice day out. Edit to say this is a good option if you want a chill time because evenings at TCA can get packed just FYI by babbingtonsleek (Sun 4th Dec 2022 4:39pm)
  • Oh nice thanks, I didn't know there was a library there ! by babbingtonsleek (Wed 11th Jan 2023 3:46pm)
  • Thanks. That's good to know, I'll finally check out the Mitchell library. Tbh I used to think most stuff at the Mitchell was reference only, and I might like to borrow some things as well. Cheers by babbingtonsleek (Wed 11th Jan 2023 4:17pm)
  • Thank you ! I hardly ever go into town so it's good to know before I go by babbingtonsleek (Wed 11th Jan 2023 5:48pm)
  • Oh really ! I'll have to look into maybe paying for GSA library, that's quite a good deal if I end up needing more specialised books. Thank you ! by babbingtonsleek (Wed 11th Jan 2023 9:45pm)
  • Good to know! Yeah this is the impression I got about the Mitchell library, great if you need something specific but I'm more in need of a browse.. thanks by babbingtonsleek (Sat 14th Jan 2023 10:00am)
  • Try Govanhill housing association, if that's in an area you'd consider. A friend of mine in a similar situation to you (separated, shared custody of two kids) managed to get a flat fairly quickly. But not sure where you'd end up on the list though if you still technically own your old house. Worh a try ! Good luck by babbingtonsleek (Sat 28th Jan 2023 8:58am)

  • Thank you! That's really helpful. Can you go to the city centre if you have any adjacent zones? by babbingtonsleek (Wed 26th Apr 2023 5:27pm)
  • Yeah ill have to make a trip to clear all this up. I do cycle but I'm considering taking a job where I would be working out in the community so might not have a space to get myself sorted if I arrive totally drenched etc 😅 just considering my options... by babbingtonsleek (Wed 26th Apr 2023 5:41pm)
  • Good to know! Yeah I can't see how the bus drivers would be looking that closely, but like maybe a industrious train person might pull you up on it. It's so much money anyway though. by babbingtonsleek (Wed 26th Apr 2023 9:44pm)
  • Thanks. Yeah that's why I fancy getting one for commuting. I often end up taking longer to get home of work because I feel i have to stick to one company to save money. by babbingtonsleek (Wed 26th Apr 2023 9:43pm)
  • Sandra swimming lessons. She's really good and no nonsense. Don't have the number anymore but she's on google by babbingtonsleek (Fri 9th Jun 2023 5:27pm)
  • This was a couple years ago but I think I paid £100 for a block of 4 one to one sessions or something like that. I think there's cheaper out there but at the time she taught in the Marriott hotel pool which was quieter than a public pool, and I was embarrassed because I couldn't swim lol Edit, seem to remember they were 30min lessons. The other commenter said they had 1hr sessions so I dunno maybe you can choose, give her a bell by babbingtonsleek (Sat 10th Jun 2023 2:40pm)
  • Hijacking the post but how the f do you get a booking with them ?? Their booking system always full by babbingtonsleek (Sun 25th Jun 2023 4:07pm)
  • This is a good idea. There's supposed to be otters. by babbingtonsleek (Sat 1st Jul 2023 9:09am)
  • Have a Google for late night dessert places. I think there used to be a few that stay open quite late. Get full of sugar to stay awake ! Seconded rent some bikes and cycle around. There isn't loads open past 12 if you don't count clubs. Go otter spotting on the Kelvin at sunrise. by babbingtonsleek (Sat 1st Jul 2023 9:14am)
  • When I was in the US I was given money by a retired looking guy at a train station, I did look pretty scruffy with a big backpack. I think he thought I was homeless by babbingtonsleek (Wed 5th Jul 2023 5:53pm)
  • Yas cherry and heather is banging !! Their chicken laksa soup is great too by babbingtonsleek (Fri 7th Jul 2023 5:18pm)
  • Too last minute but for next time or Christmas you could try finding a potter than would make a nice one. There's loads of potters in the southside ive noticed recently by babbingtonsleek (Fri 8th Sep 2023 11:02pm)
  • Thank you ! It was driving me mad not being able to figure out how to reverse the timetable... Good to know. Yeah both drivers seemed really puzzled about where I was going but it's definitely listed as a stop. Tbf it's a weird route and one of those small buses so maybe they don't often drive that route. And it was early in the morning haha. by babbingtonsleek (Wed 20th Sep 2023 8:56am)
  • Probably.. I wish there was an alternate bus stop/area guide... by babbingtonsleek (Wed 20th Sep 2023 5:03pm)
  • Haha could be ! I named a nearby school hoping that would help.. by babbingtonsleek (Wed 20th Sep 2023 5:02pm)
  • Thanks, I like this site. However, I didn't cross check the timetable with the McGills app to see if the bus was actually coming and ended up walking home for an hour... can't count how many times buses in Glasgow have ruined my day by babbingtonsleek (Wed 20th Sep 2023 6:32pm)
  • Haha if only getting the bus was that fun by babbingtonsleek (Wed 4th Oct 2023 12:14pm)
  • Ahh thanks ! I find the first bus app easier than the McGills by babbingtonsleek (Wed 4th Oct 2023 12:16pm)
  • Sainsbury's braehead has non alcoholic cider. Not cloudy though by babbingtonsleek (Mon 30th Oct 2023 6:11pm)
  • I use citymapper to plan but then cross check with the first bus app's live departures feature to see if there actually is a bus coming because citymapper goes by the official timetables but the buses don't, haha. And then just pray the bus turns up, it isn't full, and that it stops where you want to get off (I've been bus napped into town before when the driver didn't stop at the citizens theatre even though it's a listed stop. edit to add obv I pressed the button) by babbingtonsleek (Mon 30th Oct 2023 10:27pm)
  • Ya it's an exercise in letting go of the things we can't control... But I do wish we had reliable public transport by babbingtonsleek (Tue 31st Oct 2023 7:55am)
  • Unfortunately not. This only covers the north west. OP needs to fill out all the other forms separately, it's very tedious. by babbingtonsleek (Wed 8th Nov 2023 7:13am)
  • I agree with this Calder street is very busy especially between cathcart road and Victoria rd. Queue of traffic there quite a lot youd get fumes in your windows in the summer. by babbingtonsleek (Wed 8th Nov 2023 1:31pm)
  • Assuming you're a man, Men Matter in Drumchapel do recovery groups AND you can access trauma counselling. You can try to get the GP to refer you to CMHT but it'll be months of waiting. Possibly years. Also psychiatrists have only slightly more minutes to talk to you than GPs. In reality your best bet is to go on counselling directory and pay for it. by babbingtonsleek (Wed 8th Nov 2023 6:28pm)
  • Yes they are supposed to be really good. They used to have a hub in Govan but that's sadly closed. by babbingtonsleek (Thu 9th Nov 2023 7:28am)
  • I would agree. My friend got rear ended and it was just a slightly damaged bumper, the insurance wrote it off ! Friend then stuck trying to find another second hand car, and they're still quite expensive at the moment. Of course that's if you can afford it. Another time where it costs money to have no money by babbingtonsleek (Mon 13th Nov 2023 10:32pm)
