  • My parents lent me my deposit for a £70k flat and I've had good luck with house prices since then. I don't know many millennials who managed it without help. It's not right - privilege begets privilege. by beesnapping (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 9:15pm)
  • There's often someone busking with just an acoustic guitar on the lane that joins Ashton Lane and Byres Road (round the side of Iceland). Lots of students crossing through there, and also pub traffic from Ashton Lane. I wonder if busking has been affected by more people using card/contactles, and therefore carrying less change. Is there a solution for that yet? by beesnapping (Wed 14th Sep 2022 8:08pm)
  • Ah the old city sprinter route! That was like the Knight Bus from Harry Potter. by beesnapping (Wed 14th Sep 2022 8:12pm)
  • Black cabs with yellow flags on top have a Safe Home Scheme for students where they'll take you home even if you have no money, and you pay later through the uni. https://www.glasgowtaxis.co.uk/passenger-services/student-information/ by beesnapping (Wed 14th Sep 2022 8:24pm)
  • Good question ... my local morrisons, a couple Aldis and a Tesco, I think? I've not started a really thorough search. I just take a notion for mint choc chip every couple of months, and I've had to make do with cones lately. They just don't hit the spot in the same way, though. by beesnapping (Wed 14th Sep 2022 9:27pm)
  • The city sprinters have been off the road for years. I suspect they weren't making enough money to cover all the traffic tickets the drivers got rushing us to town in 20 minutes flat. by beesnapping (Wed 14th Sep 2022 9:46pm)
  • I dono how I feel about those premium tubs. I don't need fancy - just the classic stuff. by beesnapping (Thu 15th Sep 2022 9:39am)
  • The wee cafe near me does it too, but I want a whole tub of the good stuff in ma freezer by beesnapping (Thu 15th Sep 2022 9:39am)
  • How does it make you feel to know I also take pineapple on my pizza? by beesnapping (Thu 15th Sep 2022 9:38am)

  • A wee subway ride away at St George's Cross there's a lovely vegan place called the Hug and Pint and it is loved also by non-vegan. Its a small menu of Asian fusion small plates. by beesnapping (Thu 22nd Sep 2022 10:00pm)
  • Something that disappointed me about Dhabba was their poppadoms. They had these mini ones that were like pop chips - I didn't like them as much as the big ones we've come to expect. by beesnapping (Fri 23rd Sep 2022 9:37am)
  • Lamora on Sauchiehall St is my current favourite. They have a tiny wee space for sitting in, but mainly do takeaway/delivery. I heard that the restaurant Mora in Finnieston is run by the same people, but I don't think their good is as good. by beesnapping (Fri 10th Feb 2023 3:15pm)
  • You've got loads of good advice here! Definitely one to remember is that they wouldn't have come in if you were home. If you can't get an alarm or security straight away, you can get stickers for your windows that say you do - they can be a good deterrent. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Monitored-Installed-Stickers-Security-Recording/dp/B07JHJL2YG/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?crid=38WJ1THPN3GDI&keywords=window+security+stickers&qid=1699284024&sprefix=window+security+st%2Caps%2C119&sr=8-9 Let your landlord know and ask them to come back to you with actions to improve security at the back of the building. If they broke a window to get in, then it sounds like you probably have single glazing. If you can get the landlord to put in double glazing, it's much safer and warmer. However, a lot of landlords are incommunicative arseholes who just like to take your money every month... I would also suggest putting a note through your neighbours' doors in the building to explain what happened and suggest a WhatsApp group or email chain for you all to keep in touch. Some won't be arsed, but you'll find that some will have been there a long time and willing to be part of a wee community. by beesnapping (Mon 6th Nov 2023 3:37pm)
  • There's a huge issue with deprivation in the city. The parent(s) is/are probably working all the hours god sends for scraps, so the kids are punted out with their free bus passes. That, and these kids are suffering with trauma from living through a lockdown - they missed the bit where they learned how to behave in public, and their social skills are stunted. You might find that kids that age in other cities are beginning to act out. It's certainly being reported as an issue among youth workers across Scotland. by beesnapping (Fri 1st Dec 2023 11:16pm)
